Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

It’s time for the GOP to dust off that post-2012 autopsy, completely ignore it, and light the party on fire again.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

A Senator Walker would also be an insult to reason, rationality, and decency.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Being the leader of the world means to be the leader of peace.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Let there be snark.

Puppies and Heroes

Another quick puppy video:

Also, watched a couple more episodes of Heroes (episodes 3-5), and I have to say I am enjoying it. A couple things are pretty predictable- it is clear to me that the short-haired brunette is clearly working for the “bad guys,” whoever they might be, and it is also clear that Peter is not able to fly, but is an empath (I think that is the right term), and able to use the talents of other people around him.

And, it goes without saying that it is always a solid business decision for a network show to have lots of scenes with Ali Larter prancing around like a tart in various stages of undress.

After watching Ginny in action, I think I was wrong. She may well be the alpha dog.

Did Geus actually grab Ginny by the tail and fling her around?

    MISOGYNIST.

Though she did have a nice evasive move to throw him off, I’ll give her that.

And speaking of puppies, has everyone seen Joe Biden’s new pup?

There’s no need to stick around past season 1. The show becomes utterly unwatchable after that.

The thing about "Heroes" is that Season 1 is pretty much self-contained and has reasonable internal consistency in its logic. It is also obvious that the writers were not making it up as they went along.

You can really stop at the end of Season 1 and be satisfied and pretend that subsequent seasons do not exist (just like there are only two "Alien" movies in existence).

    @Wonk:

John’s folk’s JRTs are cute. but that German Shepard pup is is gorgeous. I prefer big dogs overall, and like the intelligence of medium or large work or sport dogs. Don’t get me wrong, there are breeds of little dogs that are perfectly intelligent, but all the ones I had growing up used that intelligence for getting in trouble. As an adult I’ve had 2 Springer Spaniels and a Bluetick Coonhound that we got at the pound in San Diego. All really sharp, easy to train and very, very loyal. And overall much calmer and easygoing. The only problem with my hunting breeds is their blind ambition to chase anything wild that moves. It was difficult to train them not to chase squirrels, rabbits, birds and foxes across the road.

Season 2 was pants ( bit rubbish ). Season 3 is good so far, nearly upto first season standard, but we’re only a few episodes in over here other than House.
Its the best thing on over here at the moment. I have to download BSG, Terminator SCC from you lot to keep my entertainment values up.

Anything else I should be downloading from over the pond in the same vein? In the UK its slim pickins

I wouldn’t say season 2 was that bad. It had its moments. The Takeno Kensei story was a good idea that got drawn out five episodes too long, and Peter finally got interesting once he got away from the Irish from central casting, and HRG probably had his most badass moments in season 2. The season was bad, but it wasn’t a completely different series.

You have two choices with Heroes: one, enjoy your moment in the sun with your first and only date with the Prom Queen Cheerleader and hang onto it as a lasting, lifleong memory; two, fuck it all up by asking her out again, only to have her laugh at your silly ass for thinking it was all real to begin with instead of just a tease.

I’ll disagree with the conventional wisdom and see that post-Season 1 Heroes is pretty good. It’s nowhere near as good as Season 1 Heroes, but it’s not the horrific travesty some of the commenters are making it out to be. The question you have to ask is whether you enjoy the concept and characters enough to spend your time watching something that’s merely "pretty good."

Sounds like the same "I don’t give a fuck and you can’t make me, heh!" dim-witted loafer of a pResident we’ve come to know and loathe. Dana Perino will trot out in a moment to clarify his statement and suggest that anyone who finds his statement rather troubling is either deaf or a terrorist coddler.

I’ll tell you what will be interesting: Bush – His flacks and toadies, + A craving for the attention he got when he was in office x A giant grudge against all those other guys who made such a mess of things ‘cos they ignored all his swell ideas ÷ Booze.

I really haven’t anything to add. I was going to say the same thing, but now that rdxtion has already said it, all I can do is concur. It’s like voting – the more people who make known that they agree with it, the more you know it’s not a minority position.

If you haven’t discovered the Wire, set aside three weeks or so to watch all five seasons. Other than that, The Shield and Brotherhood. (A lot of UK actors in the last one, actually.)

In terms of comedy, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, 30 Rock, and our version of The Office. Loved the original, but this has its own rhyme and reason.

Yes, this is a definitely a theme they extend to future episodes and I continue to approve.

That said, you guys bitch too much. Given the alternatives – Chuck, My Own Worst Enemy, Reality TV Show About Fat People, Reality TV Show About Poor People, Reality TV Show About People Willing to Eat Goat Testicles On National TV For The Chance To Date Flava Flave, Win A Million Dollars By Guessing Randomly Show – Heroes is easily one of the best shows on.

That said, yeah, you will be horrendously disappointed as the plot takes a rather pathetic turn sideways and gets completely lost in the woods for two seasons. I’m just glad season 3 is over and happy I wasn’t completely disappointed by the ending. I’ll give him another shot with Season 4 if only because I want to see how shamelessly he rips off X-men.

RE: Ali Larter – you will grow to hate her. Well, her character at least.

Also, I’m surprised no one has mentioned how utterly anti-climactic the "finale" of Season 1 was. I think everyone was just so awe-shocked by the crap of S02 and S03 they forgot.

Again, keep expectations low and belief suspended.

I don’t think empath is accurate in the comic book world. I forget the term, as I haven’t read comics in a long time, but empath still means being able to read emotions (a la Jean Gray).
