Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

He really is that stupid.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

If you’re pissed about Biden’s speech, he was talking about you.

Happy indictment week to all who celebrate!

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

Let’s finish the job.

We still have time to mess this up!

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

It’s time for the GOP to dust off that post-2012 autopsy, completely ignore it, and light the party on fire again.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

Come on, man.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

In my day, never was longer.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

I have nothing to add to this, other than to ask what Jonah Goldberg thinks.

Nothing to add except to note Ferraro has fallen pretty far if she’s sitting for interviews with the NYP. Next stop: An advice column in the National Enquirer called "Dear Clueless Shill."

kommrade, you don’t have to ask if JG thinks. He doesn’t, he just references the Simpsons or Star Trek and copies and pastes (saying "mmm, paste") whatever Rich Lowry has to say.

I want a bracelet saying "WWJGD", on the other side, it’ll say "Nothing".

Oh, and Fuck Ferraro. She’s a worthless piece of shit.

Ferraro is just an idiot– I’ll admit that agreeing with her gives me a case of auto-schadenfreude, but I still think there must be better candidates out there. I think that New York should have an actual politician for Senator. Like D’Amato. Well, no, not like D’Amato– a liberal D’Amato. But not a Princess, not an apparatchik, not a ‘Jr.’ nor a ‘III’.

I had an occasion to go to the 1984 Vice Presidential Debate in Philly. I was a wee lad at the time, and I don’t remember much about Ferraro, although I thought it was really cool that a women was nominated. However, what I have always remembered clearly, is this:

BOYD: And now, I’ll give you a chance, Mr. Vice-President, to ask the question you’d most like to ask your opponent.

BUSH: I have none I’d like to ask of her, but I’d sure like to use the time to talk about the World Series or something of that nature. Let me put it this way – I don’t have any questions…

Geraldine Ferraro served for a total of six years in the House, ending in 1985. She lost two Senate primaries, and that comprised her electoral prowess for the decade of the nineties.
I just don’t know why she’s so sought after for advice and opinion.
When did she start weighing in on everything? Where was all this wisdom and political savvy from 1985 to 2008?

Having been brought up in a family of politicians, Caroline Kennedy might be really good at it. I mean Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey Jr. good. Or she might be Pete Rose, Jr, George W. Bush good. I’ve never met the woman — how can I tell? That’s for Bloomberg to figure out, maybe by (wild idea here) interviewing her and making an informed decision.

Did you know that this World’s Worst website has a nice feature, in that if you type a swell post and are using a new browser that doesn’t have a cookie for your name, your post is lost as soon as you hit the Submit button? Try it, it’s fun.

That feature makes me feel just like I do when I think of CK getting that Senate seat. I saw her relative on tv yesterday telling us why CK should get the job: Woman, money, woman. Oh, and don’t forget, money.

Bush cronyism and dynastic chutzpah? I got your Family Affair right here. Those Bushes have nothing on the Kennedys when it comes to looking into a camera and saying any damned thing with a straight face, I tell you what. What a braload that little appearance was yesterday. The upshot was, are you serious? Questioning a Kennedy’s right to this seat?

Yeah, don’t start with me. I was putting up Kennedy signs and going to the Dem convention in 1960. I don’t need any information about them, I have seen the movie, and the sequels. Just make it end. What sin did I commit that makes me have to be in a party with these awful people, plus Al Sharpton? I have never skull fucked a puppy.

Are we this bereft of brilliance, competence, and courage in America that the only people available to us for public service are those that come from American royalty (viz., the Bushes and Kennedys)?

I would think that Obama has taught us to look outside the palaces for our leaders, and that the strongest public servants are self-made men and women who weren’t handed a thing.

I hate that that story is making the news. Why does everyone in the country need to know about her personal problems?

    I submit the following reasons:

    1. McCain asked Sarah Palin to be Vice President.
    2. Sarah Palin had the gall to accept such a nomination.
    3. Sarah Palin trotted out her family on the stage (literally and figuratively) as an example of everything wholesome and small-town esque.
    4. Acting as hypocritical as any Republican in 50 years, they acted as though Bristol’s pregnancy didn’t at all fly in the face of their otherwise overtly hateful "values".
    5. They forced the kid to marry her for political reasons.

Michael Connell — founder of Ohio-based New Media Communications, which created campaign Web sites for George W. Bush and John McCain — died instantly after his single-prop, private aircraft smashed into a vacant home in suburban Lake Township, Ohio

A top level Republican IT consultant who was set to testify in a case alleging GOP election tampering in Ohio died in a plane crash late Friday night.

"…I have reason to believe that the alternate accounts were used to communicate with US Attorneys involved in political prosecutions, like that of Don Siegelman," said RAW STORY’s Investigative News Editor, Larisa Alexandrovna, on her personal blog Saturday morning. "This is what I have been working on to prove for over a year. In fact, it was through following the Siegelman-Rove trail that I found evidence leading to Connell. That is how I became aware of him. Mike was getting ready to talk. He was frightened

. He apparently ran out of gas, something I find hard to believe. I am not saying that this was a hit nor am I resigned to this being simply an accident either.

I know it’s petty, and probably won’t change minds and only make them retreat further into group think. But well, they really need to pull their collective asses out of their asses. Currently, it’s so far up, they talk through their nostrils.

Geraldine Ferraro: a trailblazing pioneer, who seems to have ended up like most trailblazing pioneers: dead, sans scalp, in an anonymous grave*. Her main problem is that having been touted (correctly, fwiw) as "Archie Bunker’s Congresswoman" for all those years, she forgot that Archie Bunker was a fictional character: and that her "tough" blue-collar shtick would get really old, really fast. That Gerry’s been reduced to spouting her bitter crap in interviews in fishwrap like the NYPost is only fitting: the best comment I’ve seen was the title of the first comment on the Narconews post:

You Don’t Have To Be From New York To Vomit

not literally, but in political terms, the same thing.
