Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Come on, man.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Hey hey, RFK, how many kids did you kill today?

Petty moves from a petty man.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

Republicans: “Abortion is murder but you can take a bus to get one.” Easy peasy.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

This must be what justice looks like, not vengeful, just peaceful exuberance.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls 2 years from now.

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

How any woman could possibly vote for this smug smarmy piece of misogynistic crap is beyond understanding.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

Cancel the cowardly Times and Post and set up an equivalent monthly donation to ProPublica.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

The lights are all blinking red.

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

Eers v. UNC

Obviously I hope the Mountaineers win, but what I really want to see is a solid football game. I just feel like the Mountaineers were never very consistent this season. It would be nice to see them go out with a win and having played a solid game.

And, of course, it would be nice to win one for the Seniors.

*** Update ***

Based on the first ten minutes, it looks like we might have a defensive struggle on our hands.

*** Update #2 ***

Before there is too much crying from WVU fans, that was a clear safety and the refs made the right call. More importantly, it was a hideous play call. Who the hell is in the OC’s booth? Don Nehlen?

*** Update #3 ***

31-30, Eeers. A win is a win, so I will take it. You know you are a Mountaineer fan when you intercept the ball with under two minutes left, and are convinced as your LB is running it back that he will fumble it, the other team will pick it up and run it back, so you are standing in your living room screaming “GO DOWN GO DOWN GO DOWN DAMNIT TO HELL JUST GO DOWN!”

At any rate, seemed like a clean game with minimal scrapping and no cheap shots, which really reflects well on WVU and UNC. Good game.

UConn fan who enjoys your site. I went to the UConn/WVU game in CT this year and the many Eers fans that made the trip were all class. Good luck – I’ll be rooting for you guys today.

Go, er, team. As an NCSU grad who works for the system and likes UNC well enough, honestly, if it isn’t basketball, we don’t really care that much down here.

I haven’t followed college football in a long time, but I’m just shaking my head at the name of these fucking bowl games. The Meineke Car Care Bowl? The PapaJohns.com Bowl? The (god give me strength)… Chick-Fil-A Bowl?

I know Division I football is all about money, but what the fuck?

Computer kit for corporations. Basically, NewEgg in a suit.

I’ll give Chik Fil-A a pass for eating up the Peach Bowl’s sponsorship rights, mainly because it’s a long-term commitment, and they come up with suitably daft promotions. The here today, gone tomorrow one-year title rights are more annoying.

I haven’t followed college football in literally..er.. fifteen years or so, which would seem to coincide with the profileration of obnoxiously commercialized bowl names.

what’s most annoying is that all these corporate named bowls use to have real names that have been supplanted. At least the Rose Bowl held out for the longest time and made it "the Rose Bowl presented by [insert name of bankrupt corporation here]"

I always root for West Virginia except when they are playing Rutgers. I’m especially hoping for a win since we got trounced by UNC before we decided to actually start playing this season.

Looking forward to us destroying the Wolfpack on Monday in that horribly-named Papajohns.com Bowl to offset the smackdown @ NC our basketball team is going to get tomorrow.

And in the spirit of trying to offend as many people as possible, if there are any Kentucky fans out there, aren’t you just tickled pink to see that Tubby has Minnesota in the Top 25? Good for Pat White. When asked in the post-game "what did you prove today," he answered "we," not "I." His shout out to his teammate who didn’t play (Hogan #22) was also commendable.

John Cole, think White should play in the CFL?

Also, we may need a Rutgers-NC State thread on Monday.

Burnspbesq, yeah, that’s brutal. The difference is that the Hoyas can play with those teams.

Oh well, I was cheering for the Heels, but at least Davis has them going in the right direction. Not too sad WVU won– I like the team and Stewart– his telling White "I love you, son" coming off the field last year was heart-wrenching.

But let’s be real– that catch by Hakim Nicks was sicker than anything we’ll see from the NFL tomorrow.

Fun game-I love watching White play-although I’ve never seen him throw so much as he did today. Very cool seeing his Dad singing along with John Denver after the game. Has all the passing been typical of WVU this year since Slaton left? I liked their more running oriented offense-my team, Oregon, has been running that the past couple of years, and its a blast to watch.

That might’ve been his last game at Carolina, but it’s been nice watching Nicks while he was here, and I wish him all the best at the next level.

Watching the first quarter, I was thinking "Nicks is the greatest receiver I’ve ever seen and will end the game with 400 yards receiving." So I was a little disappointed when he didn’t. Then I noticed he had more receiving yards than his quarterback had passing yards. That’s… nuts.

That kid linebacker who made the last pick isn’t going to pay for a bottle of ‘shine…er…dinner in Morgantown for the rest of his life. And Pat White is really the only qb ever to start and win four bowl games? That’s a great stat.

i wouldn’t be so confident. have you seen russell wilson play?

I have. But Mike Teel is the hottest QB in the country, and Kenny Britt is unstoppable, the best WR in the nation that no one has heard of.

The difference is the Ds. NC State will put up some points, but Rutgers defends mobile QBs better than anyone because of the defensive speed. NC State’s weakness is the defensive backfield. We’re going to eat them alive.

Should be fun. Matchup of the two hottest teams with the most impressive turnarounds this season.
