Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Beware of advice from anyone for whom Democrats are “they” and not “we.”

This chaos was totally avoidable.

This is dead girl, live boy, a goat, two wetsuits and a dildo territory.  oh, and pink furry handcuffs.

“The defense has a certain level of trust in defendant that the government does not.”

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

The media handbook says “controversial” is the most negative description that can be used for a Republican.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

Petty moves from a petty man.

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

If you can’t control your emotions, someone else will.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

If you are still in the gop, you are either an extremist yourself, or in bed with those who are.

There are times when telling just part of the truth is effectively a lie.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

If a good thing happens for a bad reason, it’s still a good thing.

You are so fucked. Still, I wish you the best of luck.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

To have a rivalry you should have teams that can beat each other. The clowns haven’t been able to do that in many moons.

The last Lions game is an away game, so I can actually watch the conclusion of their magical 0-16 season on TV!

I for one welcome the Jets’ new Matt Cassel-Bill Parcells era.

The Brown’s playing IN Pittsburgh. Ha!

Rooting for the Brown’s today is the same as rooting for Wily E. Coyote on his worst day. However, it is easy to get worked up about the fact that George W. Bush won’t be President in 23 days. Put that in yer pipe and smoke it!

myp2p.eu is generally the best place to go to look for streams.

Searching through the site, I’ve found this website and this TVAnts link. I haven’t tested either.

I like TVAnts, myself. It’s basically just a torrent client that downloads live and pushes the video to WMP (or whatever media player you want), but it works pretty well.

Yargh. I had so many links I was moderated, and most of my links don’t even work.

Short version: go here for Browns-Steelers.

Go here for general sports links. Most of them require a bittorrent-like client called TVAnts. TVAnts works quite well.

Am watching the last few minutes of the Giants game. They should be ahead by way more. Just hope they don’t blow it.

As for the Jets, I am not holding out hope but will be watching the game just the same. And I believe the only way they make it into the playoffs is if they beat the Phins and Pats lose, but someone do correct me if I’m wrong.

Having grown up in the Motor City, my thoughts are with you you NonWonderDog and everyone else suffering through the Lions season. I can’t believe William Clay Ford is saying he doesn’t see the need to make any changes. Is there a Wide Receiver from some no-name school the Lions can blow their first pick on?

Regarding Pennington and Miami, I am pulling for them, if they can come back after their record from last year it is truly a Cinderella story. However, JL, it’s not the team I am getting the most worked up about. Growing up in Detroit, living in Philly, I am an NFC girl (which presents its own issues.)

Yeah, the wind was murder. Buf kicker tried a 40-yarder that he aimed about 10 yards to the left of the left upright… it ended up about 20 yards to the right of the right upright. BTW, if you want to see over-paid prima donnas who lack heart and will fold under anything approaching pressure… I give you the Dallas Cowboys. They not only choke, they will then stand around on the field and gag while the play is still going on 20 (30, 40, 50, 6…) yards down the field.

The ‘Boys are now 5-9 in December and 0-2 in the playoffs under Romo.

I’m a long-time punter (horse race bettor, not the football type). I’ve seen the fair weather nags who can run wire-to-wire, even in allowance class races, when given an unchallenged lead out of the gate. But, stick another speed demon with them so that they have to eye another animal for the first couple of furlongs, and they fall apart and finish dead last, even when running against the lowliest of bottom-level claimers. The Cowboys are so reminiscent of those hay- and ticket-burning glue sources. They may have talent, they may have pedigree; but they have no heart. And they will never be champions.

My son went to a game at Yankees stadium several years back to watch the Sox against the Yankees. He had the tickets delivered to my house and I started receiving Yankees Christmas catalogs. I called him ordering him to stop it. It was very bad. A sweet story though, I volunteer at a food pantry and clothes closet. We get community service volunteers and one time I refused to hang a Yankees shirt. A teenager asked me if I watched the World Series when the Sox won, (first time) and I said yes. He asked if I cried and I said yes. He said that it was the first time he saw his dad cry. I live outside Atlanta but there are many sox transplants.

Ot – (oh wait can it be OT on an open thread?) It would appear that in addition to regaining lost cats I am adopting single marines. My step-daughter is "engaged" (I am using that term loosely) to a Marine, 24 year old alumni of Liberty (you CAN just imagine the political conversations that we have) anyhoo, he has just about moved in whenever time allows, so I am now feeding him. Well since SD and Fiance have no transportation they rely on their friend "Stevo" (don’t ask, I insist on calling him Stephen) DH and I made the mistake of inviting Stevo for dinner last night, it appears to have been an open invitiation because Stevo (as well as SD and Fiance) are with us for dinner again this evening. My question is this, is there a bag limit for having single marines dining at ones house? As far as I am aware the SD’s circle of friends is quite small (consisting almost entirely of geeks, if I am to be kind, I mean, video game sci fi geeks of the first order), so what is the bag limit? Does one even have one?

Yet another thrilling last-second victory for the 49ers. They’re not good, exactly, but they’re getting to be fun to watch.

@Mike: and they gave Singletary the head coaching job for next year, something he definitely deserved.

Hey, The Niners won and named Singletary as permanent coach. And the Cowboys lost. Last night the Cal Bears beat Miami and Friday night the woeful Golden State Warriors beat the Celtics.

Now if only the three hundred dollars worth of software I bought worked…

@Frank Sobotka: You are kidding, right? no way in hell 2004 compares to what the skankees are doing this year. I admit it wasn’t exactly minimum wage players, but it wasn’t $180 mil players either.

@JL: I had "friends" be really nice to me all of a sudden in 2004 and 2007 after the wins. every other year, was the standard "Red Sux", or "if it is August, it must be choke time for the Sux", etc., etc.

What a beyond stupid move by the steelers – to let Roethlisberger get killed like that for nothing! (Not Cleveland’s fault – aggressive play is the name of the game.) Stupid is not even close to the right call for that team to let this happen to such a good player. Now Ben will be pushed into a game after adding another injury to his brain (yes, his no helmet motorbike riding was stupid). I liked the steelers approach to football in the past but now I see that they are worse than the worse organization – win simply for winning’s sake and damn the players. As a Raven’s fan I have always admired Ben and his tough approach and the steelers organization but now, I have to admit that this new org is totally spineless and full of stupid pride. To force players that hard in a totally meaningless game for no reason but to keep your team ‘hot’ was something a good organization would never do. Considering Ben’s pass injury to his head that nearly cost him his career, this move was beyond reckless and borderline criminal if they force him back at all (which both they and he will do considering their approach to football.)

As for Dallas, couldn’t happen to a better team.
As for the Jet’s, tough luck but luck is made more often than not, and good teams make it happen.

    Go Ravens!

I’m proud of what my Patriots did this season. The list of injuries to key players was incredible, and yet they stayed in it all the way to the end. I gave up all hope of a playoff slot a couple of weeks ago, when it became obvious that we had to depend on Brett Favre to help. Desperate times indeed.

I just hope someday puts a stake and a silver bullet through his heart, then decapitates him and buries the head separately. I am so tired of all the media fawning over that overrated geezer.

It was nice watching Mini-me Mangini squirming throughout. Not his fault though, the Jets front office is among the worst in the league.

As for Cassell going to the Jets. Sure, sounds plausible. The worst FO in the league keeps trying to copy the Patriots model, using leftover parts from New England. It’s been working great so far. Guffaw! The only problem is that Cassell is staying. But it’s actually Brady’s status in New England that is very much up in the air, wouldn’t shock anyone who really follows the Pats, if they traded him.

And before I forget, nice job Cowboys. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer crew. Well, except for the Jets. God, I love the NFL!

Not a Steelers fan, but what the hell was Tomlin doing playing Ben in the first place??? I know it turned out fine, but it looked a lot worse than it was. After Faneca left he has been thrown around like a rag doll the whole season. They had nothing to play for yesterday. Leftwich has been a good backup so far and Ben should have gotten a rest.

At least Couglin gave Brandon Jacobs a rest.

This Browns fan is sorry Ben was hurt during the game. Hope he’ll be OK for the playoff game.

Is it sweet to be a Charger fan this morning?

That was fricking awesome. By the end of Q3 the Broncos defense looked like they simply gave up – why get bowled over and into a gurney in the last quarter of the last game that cannot be won?

May the Colts get the same treatment next Saturday.

The best part of the day was that the Pats didn’t make the playoffs and the Dolphins did. There is some justice in the world.

Chad Pennington whupped the Jets and got Mangini fired. They call it Chaddenfreude now, baby.

… it became obvious that we had to depend on Brett Favre to help.

Someone on TV pointed out this is the second time this decade the Pats have needed Brett Favre’s team to beat Chad Pennington’s team in order to make the playoffs — and it didn’t happen (2002).

So … what’s the biggest choke: the Jets, the Bucs, or the Broncos?
