Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

The willow is too close to the house.

Not all heroes wear capes.

Americans barely caring about Afghanistan is so last month.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

T R E 4 5 O N

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Let there be snark.

Everybody saw this coming.

Today’s GOP: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

PUMA versus Wingnut

I’ve got an idea for a new feature here. Compare a really stupid statement/post from wingnuttia with a really stupid one from the PUMAsphere, then debate which is stupider.

For our PUMA entry, let’s start with the “PUMAs are the new Jews” thing John alluded to earlier (from NoIQ, natch):

Is puma the new jew – a people persecuted for their beliefs, and eventually for their failure to fall in line, and follow the chosen one?

Now, I am not saying that PUMAS have been subjected to the horrors of the holocaust, or the years and years of persecution, but I thought it was a snappy intro that might grab your attention.

Since I’ve been going local today, I’m going with this from western New York’s premier wingnut blog:

It is believed that AlGore secretly met with Dr. Bittner and was immediately declared “The Saudi Arabia of Lipo Diesel”.

Update: This is the best PUMA-spoof I’ve seen in a while:

Or that a half-Kenyan British citizen/political fiction/Kaspar Hauser/blank-slate mannequin fabricated in the clanking, hissing bowels of the Daley family Chicago Corruption Machine is about to assume the Presidency, with the cowardly, tacit compliance of a bought-and-paid-for media, Electoral College, Supreme Court, Congress, 50 state Attorneys-General, both political parties, and 52% of American voters.

Or that this not-so-black changeling-child Obama/Soetoro/whoever is already assembling a cabinet loaded with Marxist hacks and terror-friendly apparatchiks hell-bent on delivering the United States into a Third World Hell of galloping Socialism.

Maybe none of that matters to this smug little back-slapping society of condescending, elitist political sachems. Maybe NOTHING matters to you.

In which case, please vote for Rumproast in the “Best Small Blog” category of the Weblog Awards.

And I’d be remiss if I didn’t give you more of the flavor of MonroeRising with this link.

The PUMA one gets my vote. Though maybe we should have a "Guess who said it" game where we try and figure out if it was said by a PUMA or one of the usual wingnuts. After all both should provide some real good ones over the next 8 years.

Wow. I think the PUMA comment comes out solidly ahead in the "Tin Ear" Maybe-I-Should-Read-That-Back-To-Myself-Before-Posting-It category.

But how do you compete with a classic wingnut love of conspiracy theories combined with the virulent hatred for all things environmental and the compulsive need to point out that Michael Moore is Al Gore was fat?

I want to say its a toss up.

I’m going to have to go with the PUMA in that one; the wingnut one is just nonsensical.

Still, if you look at the career statistics, the wingnuts have a huge lead built up. I don’t think the PUMAs have the sheer number of crazies at their command to catch up (though they do do quite well in the individuals; it’s just the team events where they’re outclassed).

I agree. You know, though, when I went nutpicking at Red State the other day and then at NoIQ, there was no contest: NoIQ is *much* crazier.

    New contender: PUMA or Wingnut?

Here’s a tip. When a 78-year-old with not-so-early-onset-dementia and an angry bitch who’s never before been proud of America do something, it’s no longer hip. It’s out. When the angry bitch who’s never before been proud of America does it multiple times, it’s just ugly.

Time to get rid of the fist-bump, or as FOX News Channel’s E.D. Hill calls it, "the terrorist fist jab." Either way when these people do it, it ain’t cool (not that it ever was). Oh, and memo to US Magazine: It’s not cute. It’s just stupid grown adults trying to look like hip-hop gangstas. Just laughable and embarrassing. Duly so, when the people doing it want to occupy 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Or already have.

Back to the topic, I like this topic from the HowObamaGotElected web site.

GOVERNOR SARAH PALIN DOES EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW FOR
    "MEDIA MALPRACTICE" DOCUMENTARY

Sarah says she is watching the media’s treatment of Caroline Kennedy and she thinks that Kennedy is treated with kid gloves. Can we assume now that Palin does not read the NYTimes, which has treated Kennedy harshly. Somebody needs to explain to Sarah the difference between a Senator and Vice President. She doesn’t get it.

RedState is frustrating that way. They can go day after day with nothing but banal and boring "Democrats suck; tax cuts will cure my acne" posts, but then will gift us with gems like the Strike Farce or the "The Washington Post would *never* hire a conservative blogger" episode.

@Origuy: Sarah went on Fox after the CBS interview and said she read the NYTimes among others puplications i.e. The Economist. I’m more concerned that she doesn’t understand the difference between being appointed Senator of one state and running for VP. Is she really the repubs best hope?

Is she really the repubs best hope?

She’s not their best hope by a long shot, but she’s what they’re hoping for – which really just demonstrates how dimwitted they insist on being. She’ll be the Rudy Guiliani / Fred Thompson of 2012, but with Ron Paul style protesters lining up to support her.

SGEW and M. Onan Batterload – If you actually link to the wankers in the post, it takes the fun out of it for the rest of us in guessing. Linking to Riverchucky with the words "PUMA or Wingnut" sort of gives it away. SGEW’s entry may be a little more of a challenge, though, because Schlussel may very well be both a wingnut and a PUMA at the same time. That’s either redundant or something that could cause a singularity of the teh stoopid and suck us all in long before CERN.

    @kommrade reproductive vigor

The conference was moved to a new location. We made an agreement with all our participants that we would treat the proceedings as confidential.

This is a tricky citation, since — in this case — "conference," "location," "agreement," "participants," "proceedings" and "confidential" are all euphemisms.

    The passage SHOULD read:

The [abysmally-orchestrated PR stunt] was moved to a [shitty airport motel with no conference facilities, but a damn nice TV room in the lobby]. We made [a double-rings-of-Saturn-secret death-pact] with all our [easily-duped members and celebrity Guest Wanker, insane anti-semite Andy Martin] that we would treat the [humiliating epic failure of this overhyped non-event] as [if it had never happened].

Those PUMA’s are a scary bunch. I had never been to the PUMApac site until yesterday. Some might classify them a hate group. And, I’ve been to Rosettasister’s Blog as well. I wondered if she is an extension of stormfront. Some of the comments there are very unsettling.

"Keep your powder dry" is a much used phrase over there at Rosettasister’s. They are kinda scary, but at the same time, it is hilarious watching the regulars follow any and all scraps of silliness regarding the birth certificate. The bizarre mix of jr high homophobia mixed with Larry Sinclair praise is amazing.
