Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

The lights are all blinking red.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

Roe is not about choice. It is about freedom.

People identifying as christian while ignoring christ and his teachings is a strange thing indeed.

She burned that motherfucker down, and I am so here for it. Thank you, Caroline Kennedy.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

Republicans in disarray!

I’m more christian than these people and i’m an atheist.

GOP baffled that ‘we don’t care if you die’ is not a winning slogan.

I have other things to bitch about but those will have to wait.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

I am pretty sure these ‘journalists’ were not always such a bootlicking sycophants.

Beware of advice from anyone for whom Democrats are “they” and not “we.”

Anne Laurie is a fucking hero in so many ways. ~ Betty Cracker

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

All hail the time of the bunny!

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

Fight for a just cause, love your fellow man, live a good life.

Ben Smith writes a blog that I really enjoy, but this, today, was a cry for help:

Alex Burns, who can name the members of the RNC in alphabetical order as a party trick…

Party. Animals.

Big deal. I can name the sane members of the RNC in alphabetical order. Here goes:

Wanna see it in reverse alpha? I can do that too.

Maybe because, at this point, that’s like about 7 names?

This is just another case of real life Republicans failing to match the high standards of fictional Democrats.

Somehow, when I picture this guy at a party naming off RNC members, the image in my head is that of Rick Moranis in Ghostbusters right before a hellhound smashed through his apartment.

Here’s why the GOP is irrelevant today, and will remain so in the forseeable future:

Of the White House Task Force on Middle Class Working Families, Obama said, "We’re not forgetting the poor. They are going to be front and center, because they, too, share our American Dream." He said his administration wants to make sure low-income people "get a piece" of the American pie "if they’re willing to work for it." "With this task force, we have a single, highly visible group with one single goal: to raise the living standards of the people who are the backbone of this country," Biden said. Obama set several goals for the task force, including expanding opportunities for education and training; improving the work-family balance; restoring labor standards, including workplace safety; and protecting retirement security.

    From today’s executive order signing.

This is the government, working for the people.

What does the GOP have to offer in response?

Basically, right now, peevish defiance and a lifted middle finger to the Obama administration, and the voters.

Good luck. Let the GOP act out whatever schtick it wants to act out. The people are not nearly as stupid as the GOP seems to think they are.

Barf. I’m so sick of The Politico (er, Drudge light). I rarely even read Ben Smith’s blog anymore — which always struck me as the most sane of the whole wing-nuttery bunch. But still…
    .
I just can’t stomach Mike Allen and Jonathan Martin’s breathless pursuit of GOP talking points and blaring wacko "headlines" — like, "OMG the black President touched me when I tried to ask him a douchey question! Yikes! Let’s bring an FBI body language analyst to tell us how controlling and ‘intimidating’ our new POTUS is!"
    .
And Alex Burns made quite a name for himself during the election season by cramming Drudge-cherry-picked "polls" (which claimed Obama was actually losing!) down our throats.
    .
I really wish everyone would adopt Wonkette’s new policy of NOT LINKING to their website anymore.

Is CNN’s Drew Griffin a dunce, or am I just discovering something new now?

Re: $75 million for stop smoking programs. Drew was being a total dick about it to a Democratic Senator or House member – can’t remember which. Basically, he was trying to make a fool of the man for supporting it. Isn’t he supposed to be an investigative reporter? Able to think things through?

Quitting smoking has been an economic stimulus to me. I save around $4.00 a day x 365 = about $1500 a year. That’s bigger than almost ANY rebate check that was sent out that Republicans supported when Bush was handing out the cash.

In addition, I save nearly $700 a year in reduced contributions to my health insurance plan.

Sounds like quitting smoking has been pretty profitable for me to the tune of at least $2200 a year. And I was buying Geirgia smokes, which are cheap. I’;m sure in other areas of the country, cigarettes at upwards of $7-8 a pack.
