Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Infrastructure week. at last.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

I did not have this on my fuck 2022 bingo card.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

This really is a full service blog.

Happy indictment week to all who celebrate!

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

I like you, you’re my kind of trouble.

Everybody saw this coming.

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

I really should read my own blog.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Aw, come on… Pittsburgh has won it bunches of times, and Arizona has never even been there. Let’s hear it for the underdog!! Go Kurt!

I like the Steelers…they beat the snot out of my Patriots…but I think God’s team is the Cardinals and Brenda Warner has gone to church all week praying for a victory.

    I think it’s Cardinals 27-10

I’ll admit for our host’s benefit that I’ll be rooting for the Steelers — not because they’re his team, but because I simply really like the city of Pittsburgh. Back in our carefree, irresponsible pre-Bottle-Rocket days, M-80 and I went to Pittsburgh three separate times to see the Cubs play at Three Rivers Stadium. They played lousy there; we didn’t see them win once. And even if we hadn’t grown up with Wrigley Field, we wouldn’t have thought much of that cavernous dump as a baseball venue. But we loved the city itself — historic, breathtakingly picturesque, interesting, fun, and populated with thoroughly decent folks. Terrific sports town, too. (Those Pennsylvania liquor laws, however, are something else.)

I thought the post title referred to the fact that I am about to vacuum.
Twice a year, whether it needs it or not!

DTV Guy comes this afternoon to get me all hooked up in the bedroom. I can hardly wait to post boring, off-topic blather from the comfort of my flannel-sheeted bed.

(Edit: I, too, will be rooting for the "Stealers" (Tweety ref.) mostly because the prospect of two weeks of John’s crankiness is unbearable to consider.)

I suppose I’ll root for the Steelers as well, if only because some of my family comes from Pittsburgh, and, hey, the Pitt deserves something. Anything, really.

(I’m right in that the Steelers are from Pittsburgh, and they’re playing in some sort of American Superlative Platter (or whatever) today?)

A Steeler win would make it 3 years in a row a Rutgers guy wins the Super Bowl (Darnell Stapleton). But I still have to root for the Cardinals. Steeler fans are insufferable (no offense).

PS: I don’t have a dog in today’s football fight.

My only sports interest of the weekend: Am still disappointed that Barbaro’s little brother, Nicanor, did not do better in his first big race yesterday. Came in 10th in field of 12.

Got to support those horses named after sporting dogs!

There’s a video of race on Youtube; hard to tell which horse is which, though.

I don’t know. John is best when he’s cranky. I don’t really care who wins and in such cases usually root for the underdog. Tough call on that between a team that’s never been to the show and any team from Pittsburgh.

Funniest thing I read on a blog this week was a response to a report that the White Sox had asked Obama to throw out the first pitch on opening day. Not to be outdone, the Cards then invited McCain to be the fourth down marker.

Couldn’t find a link to it, but there was a funny cartoon in the sports section of yesterday’s LA Times:

"The Wrecks of the Larry Fitzgerald"

There are two sporting events I care about today. Hopefully Duke will pound the snot out of the Wahoos, and hopefully Beckham will play like doo-doo and AC Milan will lose badly, and that will be the end of all of this silly talk of him not coming back to the Galaxy.

    Football? Whatever.

I actually made to the last Steeler SB in Detroit (wife’s a die-hard, thought it’d be her only chance, had to empty the coffers). The best part of Steeler fandom is how many of those folks wear shirts and make posters with Art Rooney on them. Is there any other franchise that honors an owner from decades back? Pretty moving.

Also, I hear the Steeler have some Professional Praise:

I also want to say thanks again to everyone who answered my plea for votes yesterday. I want to hit the morning crew here — yeah I know it’s almost afternoon — to make sure they know it worked and Sinf won the best post of the year. It wouldn’t have happened without your help. GO STEELERS!

Surely, it’s how the game is played that counts, and not who wins, correct? That’s how it’s always portayed in the all of the Hollywood moving films that I’ve seen on the subject.

Anyway, despite my ignorance and indifference, the tenacity of you American athletic supporters always astounds me. May you all enjoy your afternoon and evening of American football sports competition.

Of course, I have no favorite team to root for, but given my internationalist, multi-partisan leanings, I will simply root for a tie, so that everyone can feel like winner!

    A Superbowl Deep Thought:

Unless the football game involves a kid I’m related to, I usually can’t get too excited about it. Don’t get me wrong–I love the game itself, but the big salaries and the selling one player for another and the moving around of coaches and franchises means I don’t feel any personal attachment to these teams.

However, for some weird reason, my husband and I are having horrible football withdrawls since our last boy graduated from high school in May. So go figure, we are having our first real Superbowl party! The guest list includes my 74 year-old Dad and his MinPin, Ceasar, my 4 kids and seven of the former starters for our State Champ team. I realized that’s the best part–I miss having those giant, bear-hugging teenagers crash-banging around my house, digging in my fridge, calling me "Mom".

Those days come and go like the friggin’ wind, folks, but they are as precious as anything else we’ll ever do. Knowing that every guy on the field today was just like one of these kids in my living room will make the whole party even better.

So, since I’m a desert rat myself: Go Card’s!

I’m trying to figure out why God would care who wins a football game. Or, for that matter, why God would conduct a world-wide contest with Allah, Budda, et al to see how many can be signed up for the team. What is the cosmic prize for whoever signs up the most?

You certainly won’t find a t-shirt with Bill Bidwill’s face on it (unless there is a "Wanted: Dead or Alive" under it).

Still, I gotta root Cards (still got a soft spot from the 60’s and 70’s) and Kurt Warner… I can’t ever root against him.

Rooting for the Stillers for many reasons:

    1) Cole’s been drifting in really pissy/whingy moods lately. Perhaps this will give him a positive jolt for a couple of weeks.

    2) Warner and his wife are exactly the kind of born again jocks and jocks wives that make me wanna puke. I can guarandamntee you they vote Repup.

    3) The Bidwells. While Bill’s son might deserve this, that old bastard don’t. The Rooneys remain *the* class act in sports ownership.

I and a friend are cohosting a party. Should have around 30 people. So far we’re estimating it at 1.5 lbs of various types of meat for each person. This is probably the 6th or 7th year of this for our group.

Most of them just play overly complex board games (Puerto Rico, Settlers of Cataan, Collosseum, Ticket to Ride) in a neighboring room and come in for the commercials.
