A Reminder by John Cole| February 6, 20092:20 pm| 64 CommentsThis post is in: Humorous, General StupidityFacebookTweetEmailIn case you forgot or need to be cheered up.
Cute, I laughed. Thanks
It’s Friday, can you give us a few pets?
I hate web abreviations so let me just say that I honestly laughed out loud.
This actually did cheer me up, ridiculously enough. Thanks.
They forgot to add, "and thank the FSM for that," or, "but his fingerprints are all over this mess."
Just Some Fuckhead
Yeah, but he’s still a free man living a privileged existence. So I’d prefer not to be reminded about him.
Here is something to make you laugh.
thanks for the reality check.
stimulus i can believe in
I do feel better, thanks!
Awesome on so many levels!!
So, can I hijack the thread with something I found at Sullivan’s place today? It’s this… (EDIT: Not safe for work! Sorry!)
I’m not even going to TRY to be political correct or sensitive in describing it. After all, the creators certainly didn’t. I’ve watched it about 20 times now, seriously. The first few, I laughed at the characiture-ness of the people in the video. The next few times I watched, I felt like I was supposed to be offended.
The last several times though, I’ve been really impressed with it. It’s getting a lot of attention.
Of course, the video addresses black men, and has been called racist. I guess, other than the gratuitous use of the word “nigger” in the video, I don’t get that charge. I think the video was made by people who really see a lot of destructive narcissism in their own community.
I could EASILY make a video that addresses the same problems in some parts of the white community. Of course, it would be less entertaining because, well, it’s me.
For me though, the whole video addresses African Americans I am not familiar with. I work mostly with African American men and women who brush their teeth, take care of their families, wear deodorant, and are very well read.
But I know where the producers of this video are coming from. I may work with the people I work with, but when I watch TV, I see an entirely different version of black America than I see at work.
Anyway watch the video, get uncomfortable, and think about it.
wingnuts to iraq
@Michael D.: it’s called speed stick, it’s not expensive.
buy some land.
God Bless America. Thanks for the chuckle.
@bago: "Sure you can have my number, Baby!"
I could listen to that line alone on an endless loop.
Best laugh o’ my day for sure.
Ha! Thanks John. Now bring on the kittehs!
@Michael D.: I didn’t realize that a "black people don’t brush their teeth" stereotype existed. Or is that only in the black community? Or is dental hygiene an actual problem in the black community? I am conufsed.
Oh lordy, I wheezed on that one.
amorphous: No clue here. I didn’t know African Americans didn’t drink water either. I need to tell the girls at work they’re being African American totally wrong. Having said that, the only thing I have to add to this list:
Read a book, Brush your teeth, wear deodorant, raaise your kids, and all the other stuff in the video is:
PULL YOUR PANTS UP! And that’s for all you white kids out there too. Goddamit you all look stupid!
That is all.
Now THERE is the silver lining so many of us were looking for!
@Michael D.: Heh. The cadence reminds me of "I’m the shit bitch! Get some toilet paper!".
Oh, and the anchor tag is linked to the ID of the post. CUTE!
Preview is screwed, also.
Well this made me laugh in a sad sort of way. Grover Norquist blamed the recession on the fact that back in 2006, everyone knew that the tax cuts would be allowed to expire in 2010, so they stopped hiring.
Yeah it had nothing to do with the bank problems or the housing bubble collapsing after a web of securities was built on top of it. It was solely speculation that 4 years down the road a bill might pass. It’s like what Robert Anton Wilson said, what the thinker thinks, the prover proves.
…and somehow a 200+ point market gain on a bad jobs reports is a sign that the markets hate the stimulus plan?
South of I-10
A nice reminder. I still smile when I hear "President Obama" said on the news.
Only if the gold corrodes.
(are we required to post a "just kidding!" tag at the end of all of these comments, or is the joking just understood?)
…and he never will be again. :) thank you term limits!
@zzyzx: Heh, Ponnuru couldn’t even take that argument, calling it "highly implausible." How far out there do you have to be to have Ponnuru call you out?
@John Cole: Well damned if that didn’t actually cheer me up as promised!
And remember, Dick Cheney isn’t President any more either.
Now…this proves it!
I can’t believe the slideshow doesn’t include a shot of his back as he was ascending the stairs. It was gorgeous in real time. Someone’s bound to post it eventually somewhere.
You’re from Pittsburgh, you should say "needs cheered up". Your credentials need improved.
Totally off-topic, but it looks like the dreaded disease known as Wingnut-itis is spreading to Europe:
@Dave: Is it Ground Hog’s Day again?!
I’d rather forget him entirely, but as the famous political philospher Juju Santeria once said, Those who fail to ridicule the past are doomed to regurgitate it, or something.
The tune should be obvious.
Dear Chimpy ‘tis at you,
I hereby throw my shoe,
It’s thee I dis.
You’re the election thief,
The idiot in chief
You’ve screwed us up beyond belief
On thee I pis.
You claimed to speak for God
While on the laws you trod,
You lie just like the sod
Your syntax it is odd
Your cowboy accent is a fraud
You’re an upper class twit.
At oversight you sneezed,
Your greedy friends to please,
And the economy crashed.
Iraqis you did croak,
You’ve left our grandkids broke,
You treated war like one big joke
At the journalists’ bash.
You tortured prisoners
Appointed Hizzoners
Far right extreme.
For the polluted air,
Taxes that are unfair,
And inept cronies everywhere,
God save the Queen.
Your place in history
Will be no mystery:
You are the worst.
Upon your neck we’d hope
To find your head but nope,
You’d nee -eed a-a proctoscope
Of fools you’re first.
Unless of course you happen to be on fire.
Okay, it’s a bit of a stretch, but rather clever in a groan-inducing way, don’t you think?
 Whoops, wrong song! heh heh.
 Sorry about that.
Also. . .
McCain isn’t president.
Mitt Romney isn’t president.
And considering what they’re saying today, thank God.
And here I figured it was going to be a link to a picture of the Steeler’s victory parade or something.

Re: Michael D’s video; Thomas Jefferson noted that Africans tended to be guided more by sensation than by reflection. Reverend Wright seems to agree more with Thomas Jefferson than he does with the genius HBD deniers in the Ivy League:
Dr. Hale showed us that in comparing African-American children and European-American children in the field of education, we were comparing apples and rocks…
Dr. Hale’s research led her to stop comparing African-American children with European-American children and she started comparing the pedagogical methodologies of African-American children to African children and European-American children to European children. And bingo, she discovered that the two different worlds have two different ways of learning…
African and African-American children have a different way of learning.
When the American educational system can bring itself to understand that we do not all have identical plastic minds that absorb the cultures that surround us, then educational resources can be more efficiently allocated, to the benefit of all Americans.
I looked up when it was registered – 11/6/2008. No time wasted there…….
@Dave: Gianno Collia is beginning to have problems with the Republicanzi party right about now.
The Grand Panjandrum
Thanks, pardner. Good shit. Have a good’un.
@Brick Oven Bill:
Shorter BOB: Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever! Also, science! I haz it!

Re: African and African-American children have a different way of learning.
My post was screwed up, if you refer to the link, those were Reverend Wright’s words.
Shorter Shitbrick Bill: Colored folks’ brains don’t work like yours and mine. I read it in this book about phrenology that I bought with a stick of butter.
BOB: Iz it coz I iz black?
Gee, Krauthammer is doing a q/a over at the Washington Post. I’m feeling pretty sad because he hasn’t answered my question. Just because I said that I thought his piece was toooo generalized in nature and would like a few more specifics. Next time I’ll start out with, I love your column but why do you always write as though your an repubfucklican.
I could just click on that over and over all day long.
Speaking of reminders (in this case, of how good good government can be):
Great Achievements in American Socialism
Click on the slideshow in the article for photos of things built with government money. Apologies if this has been posted before.
Ask and you shall receive, John. Via TPM:
educational resources can be more efficiently allocated, to the benefit of all Americans.
Interesting – so the facilities would be separate but in effect equal?
That did make me laugh ) So did John C’s link.
Hey John, did the Steelers win the Super Bowl?
That’s Italy. Italy is.., different, in those matters because the Pope lives there, and governments tend not to want to fling stuff like this in his face (unless of course the government has some former communists in it). Also, of course, the current government in Italy are a bunch of semi-fascists with Bush blood-brother Berlusconi in the driving seat.
I’m guessing the Limbaugh demographic assumes the hippity-hoppers on them beer commercials have all those gold teeth because they’re not flossing enough. I have a friend working for the correctional system who says that there really *is* a problem with third-generation-welfare-recipients who come to prison never having been taught to use a toothbrush… but *they’re* usually from the Eminem/Debbie Schussel demographic. You know those horror stories about "meth mouth"? Those gummy-jawed Bad Examples had terrible dental hygiene long before they joined the gummint’s War Against Some Drugs on the losing side. Yet another reason why HeadStart and S-CHIP are so freakin’ important.

Thanks for the link. Obama’s new Air Force One jacket is pretty spiffy, but did he get permission from Andy Card to wear it?

Krauthammer! Jesus, the neocon zombie who wrote not one but three columns begging, pleading, and demanding that McCain/Palin be elected back in November. That was the only way he was going to get his cherished war with Iran going.
@Mike in NC: You’re quite welcome.
While I can’t find a still photo of the precise moment I am looking for (his back right next to the seal with the dusky sky in the background), I did find a short video of it. I caught it live last night, but in case y’all did not…
It just thrills the hell out of me, frankly. Very moving. Sniff.
@Laura W: My favorite part was the scared shitless look on that poor baby Jarhead’s face when Obama stopped and shook his hand, poor kid didn’t know whether to drop the salute or not and then stood there with a look of horror on his face as Obama went up the steps trying to figure out if he was going to be in trouble for doing it.
BTW I’m mostly amused at his confusion like I would be amused at my own kids in a similar situation and I spend a lot of time with baby Squids so I see a lot of this kind of thing.
@Indylib: I know I know I know! Me too. That was the second most moving part of it for me. Not so much what the young man might be feeling but being really touched by how Obama broke the formality, probably asked the guy his name, shook his hand, probably patted his shoulder. He’s touchy/feely. I likes that.
I really get into watching him closely. I find his facial expressions, tone inflections, and body language quite revealing, in GOOD ways. There is such a natural, spontaneous, in-the-moment, capital "P" presence to him.
Uh oh! Someone has a crush on her new president!
(Edit: and his laugh Rocks! I posted his Fox interview in an earlier thread. Best Laugh Ever.)
had #43 been sober one day since Cheney left office?
@Laura W: That kid will be telling his grandkids the story of Obama shaking his hand in 50 years.
BTW, be sure to read Dreams of my Father but if you like listening to our POTUS talk consider getting the audio version. You can download audio books onto your computer through a bunch of different places. I use audio.com.
@Indylib: Thanks for the reminder and I will get the audio. I’m thinking when I’m in my little studio creatin’ stuff, it might keep me far more inspired and engaged than say…MSNBC? Just a guess. Could be wrong.
I hope that site is never updated.
BTW, Michael, check out the CNN reaction to "Read a Book":
Get off my lawn before I cut your mic! And make some more wholesome rap videos like "The Sound Of Music"!
I’m going to go out a limb here and guess that this guy has never paid any attention to what Lil’ Jon is actually telling his kids to do, i.e. go to a strip club and drink until they can no longer stand up to pee. If they, uh, pee standing up, that is.
