So, can I hijack the thread with something I found at Sullivan’s place today? It’s this… (EDIT: Not safe for work! Sorry!)
I’m not even going to TRY to be political correct or sensitive in describing it. After all, the creators certainly didn’t. I’ve watched it about 20 times now, seriously. The first few, I laughed at the characiture-ness of the people in the video. The next few times I watched, I felt like I was supposed to be offended.
The last several times though, I’ve been really impressed with it. It’s getting a lot of attention.
Of course, the video addresses black men, and has been called racist. I guess, other than the gratuitous use of the word “nigger” in the video, I don’t get that charge. I think the video was made by people who really see a lot of destructive narcissism in their own community.
I could EASILY make a video that addresses the same problems in some parts of the white community. Of course, it would be less entertaining because, well, it’s me.
For me though, the whole video addresses African Americans I am not familiar with. I work mostly with African American men and women who brush their teeth, take care of their families, wear deodorant, and are very well read.
But I know where the producers of this video are coming from. I may work with the people I work with, but when I watch TV, I see an entirely different version of black America than I see at work.
Anyway watch the video, get uncomfortable, and think about it.

amorphous: No clue here. I didn’t know African Americans didn’t drink water either. I need to tell the girls at work they’re being African American totally wrong. Having said that, the only thing I have to add to this list:
Read a book, Brush your teeth, wear deodorant, raaise your kids, and all the other stuff in the video is:
PULL YOUR PANTS UP! And that’s for all you white kids out there too. Goddamit you all look stupid!
Well this made me laugh in a sad sort of way. Grover Norquist blamed the recession on the fact that back in 2006, everyone knew that the tax cuts would be allowed to expire in 2010, so they stopped hiring.
Yeah it had nothing to do with the bank problems or the housing bubble collapsing after a web of securities was built on top of it. It was solely speculation that 4 years down the road a bill might pass. It’s like what Robert Anton Wilson said, what the thinker thinks, the prover proves.
…and somehow a 200+ point market gain on a bad jobs reports is a sign that the markets hate the stimulus plan?

Peter Orszag, the nominee to become Office of Management and Budget chief under Obama, just elaborated a bit on the incoming administration’s plans to instill transparency in the contracting process as they implement the economic stimulus bill.
Appearing before the Senate government affairs committee today, Orszag said:
We plan to create a Web site that will contain information about the contracts and include PDFs or contracts themselves, and also financial information about the contracts.

That’s Italy. Italy is.., different, in those matters because the Pope lives there, and governments tend not to want to fling stuff like this in his face (unless of course the government has some former communists in it). Also, of course, the current government in Italy are a bunch of semi-fascists with Bush blood-brother Berlusconi in the driving seat.
