via Hot Air, this:

So you don’t subscribe to Rush Limbaugh’s “I hope he fails” school of thought?

That was a terrible thing to say. I mean, he’s the president of all the country. If he succeeds, the country succeeds. And if he doesn’t, it hurts us all. Anybody who would pull against our president is not exactly thinking rationally.

That was Pat Roberston…

Make Of This What You Will

Republican governors are supporting the stimulus.

The collapse of the Republican coalition is on track.

The Congressional GOP has sawed off the ice and is floating out to sea as we speak.

How is it that the Repubs had a monopoly on patriotism? Does it tie into those Southern patriots and their ‘War of Northern Aggression?’

Fuck them for saying opposing the president was aiding the enemy. Fuck them with sandpaper dildoes in every orifice.

Limbaugh will pragmatically ignore this slight, Robertson will fail to repeat it, and it will sink into the media ether as if it were never uttered.

Republicans fail at everything but message discipline.

So what do we get when we are done? A fundie party on one end and the anti-tax party on the other? The falt line seems to be between Huckabee and Ron Paul. I just don’t know if either of them can exist alone.

This looks like a tiff to me. The theocons and the corpcons can break up today. But they’ll need each other tomorrow.

Today on hot air you can also read how Obama waited 4 days before signing the stimulus bill. If the bill was urgent, he should have signed it immediately.
Last week on hot air you could have read that Obama broke a campaign pledge by not waiting 5 days to sign the bill.
    My head is spinning.

Currently Rush is quite excited about a police force that had to put a chimp down after the animal went nuts. He’s managed to blithely skip right past Pattycake’s critique.

And yeah, Rush’s defense literally consists of "I wasn’t wishing for the country to fail, I was wishing for these policies to fail." Apparently this is completely different than hoping our former President’s policies failed in Iraq. That type of criticism equals treason.

I think the problem here is people viewing Rush Limbaugh as some sort of political actor. He’s not; he’s a money machine. He’s out for ratings, because ratings mean more money. So to that end, the more outrageous and offensive the comment the better, because that keeps his name in the larger political media, and keeps him "relevant" to the discussion. But that’s not really anything of a political point, and on some level I’d venture that Rush both doesn’t really mean it and votes a straight ticket Democratic ballot. Rather, it’s all about Rush’s paycheck.

In my view, Joe Scarborough is the biggest dick on TV.

But this morning I caught this clip (about 17 min.) of Brezinski on Morning Joe (sans Mika) discussing the economy, Afghanistan and Palistine. Pat Buchanan was also at the table.

I was struck how more deferential Joe and Pat were when discussing issues with someone who actually knew what he was talking about. No "stunningly superficial" spewage, Joe and Pat were respectful and properly cowed.

It reminded me of Krugman shutting down the "stunningly superficial" opining from the panel on This Week when Donaldson, Cokie and G Will were attempting to hold forth with their business as usual bullshit a couple of weeks ago. Their ignorance was so obvious.

I wish for more of this type of intelligent discourse. Brezinski’s ideas and opinions were informative to say the least.

I am putting those remarks down to inertia from the Bush years, but I also have to note Robertson’s conflating of Presidential success with national success. Defining Presidential success as "getting stuff the President wants done," which I think is reasonable, Bush was a highly successful President, but look where we are as a nation.

Just a note about the HotAir people blowing steam because we didn’t get to view the stimulus before sigining:

    White House Blog 2/13/2009

    From today’s DC Examiner:

So he pledged that, as president, he would “not sign any nonemergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House Web site for five days.”

    article

OK, so we only, technically, got 3 full days to review it before signature, but if you count Friday and today, then that is five days, and it’s far more than we’ve ever seen before with respect to the passage of legislation.

    Just saying….

The slideshow was a lovely commentary.

What’s funny is that each time someone on their side says anything even remotely critical of Rush or their congressional leadership, they are instantly written off as no longer relevant, or revealed to be a RINO, etc… There really is no room at all for disagreement within their ranks.
