LIMBAUGH: [T]he people on our side are really making a mistake if they go after Bobby Jindal on the basis of style. Because if you think — people on our side I’m talking to you — those of you who think Jindal was horrible, you think — in fact, I don’t ever want to hear from you ever again. … I’ve spoken to him numerous times, he’s brilliant. He’s the real deal.
I love the fact that Limbaugh thinks that after years of anti-intellectualism, years of reducing complex policy decisions to “with us or against us” and most recently “Drill, baby, drill” that they now should no longer consider “style” when trying to appeal to the base GOP base.
At any rate, better start scrubbing your websites, Republicans, or pretty soon there will be some Silly Putty in the mail or you will be blacklisted for pointing out that Jindal really and truly sucked last night.

A certain number of white commentators should be granted permission to be openly critical of the President. Americans should not have to defer this essential part of our Representative Republic to Michelle Malkin and Bobby Jindal.
I make a rule not to place too much trust in men who refer themselves to ‘Bobby’, or other children’s names. I watched Jindal’s press conference before the hurricane and he seemed more like a technocrat than a leader to me, back then. He was trying too hard. See also ‘Sandy’ Berger. ‘Hank’ Paulson is similar.
Michelle Malkin was just on TV and she is pissed. She was literally snarling. As I was watching her, I could not help but think about the theoretical cat fight between the two Michelles.
I would pay $80 on pay-per-view to watch this cat fight, if it could be arranged to the satisfaction of all parties. I think that Malkin would win. She seems very crafty. The proceeds could be donated to a charity.

Rush Limbaugh is simply a radio show personality. His opinions, while strong, are just part of his own personal view of the world, and those people who choose to agree with him do so freely.
That being the case, why do Obama Juicers care one way or the other what Limbaugh has to say about anything? It’s not like most of you are his target audience or anything.

JGabriel
I posted this 9 or 10 threads back, but it seems relevant here.
In light of that, John, I think you’re missing Limbaugh’s point:
Limbaugh isn’t saying they shouldn’t consider style. As hard as it is to grasp, to wrap your mind around the sheer idiocy of it, Limbaugh is actually arguing that there’s nothing wrong with Jindal’s style. It’s the same style as Reagan and W, and Limbaugh has no patience for anyone who doesn’t worship it.
.
NonyNony
@Svensker:
Oh, it makes sense. If you assume that Obama’s ideas are stupid and that the only reason anyone thinks they’re any good is because Obama sounds smart when he presents them.
It’s an irrational and frankly stupid stance, but I suspect that Limbaugh believes it. He doesn’t seem to grasp that the dynamics have changed and this isn’t 1992 – he thinks that he’s back in the Clinton years when people hadn’t really rejected conservatism as a governing philosophy but rather had rejected George HW Bush as the standard bearer. He thinks that the grand consensus is that the Republicans have good ideas and Democrats have old and tired ideas.
Unfortunately for Limbaugh, this isn’t 1992. The grand consensus is that conservatism has failed so hard that it’s tanked the country. And he isn’t visionary enough to grasp that. So he’s looking for the next "George W Bush" – the guy who can sell conservatism to the masses. In 2000 selling conservatism was fairly easy. In 2008 it’s like selling snow cones in January. During an ice storm. With no flavors other than "crap sandwich".

I have to disagree. I think Reagan in his later years had those kind of wandering, airy speeches. But early on (1980-83) he delivered some powerhouse speeches. And if anyone channeled that kind of force last night, it was Obama.

Yeeesh…. I don’t think so.
Back in 1988, I was an audio and lighting tech at the New Orleans Convention Center. The Republican Convention was in NO that year, and I ran sound for a speech by Reagan. Even though I was a raging DFH, it only took about 5 minutes into Reagan’s speech and ….. I got it. His charisma filled the room. He said absolutely nothing, just slung some platitudes around, but he had the magic.
Jindal? He didn’t show me a thing, and even worse, his speech seemed to have been written weeks ago. Even worse, he apparently didn’t listen to Obama’s speech before giving his, also. It was embarrassing.

First, the private sector has determined that there is no ceratin threat of volcanoes and such close monitoring is unnecessary; thus, there is no need to monitor volcanoes. Why is it that you cannot undertand that fact?
Furthermore, I think you are seriously underestimating the private-sector volcano monitoring corporations, and government involvement will only ensure that inefficiences result and those volcano-monitoring companies will have no choice but to shut down. ‘Sounding smart’ would be the kiss of death for this crowd — they demand pandering bone-stupid mumblers like Bush, to make them feel better about being bone-stupid. A Texas cretin who attended Harvard and Yale and acts as dull-witted, provincial and inarticulate as any dropout hick makes them feel better about not getting an education.
All they have is slick packaging over rancid policies that rip off the vast majority of the population, and they’re frustrated as hell that the con they’ve been running isn’t working so well anymore. When it comes to monitoring volcanoes, Jindal is the model of a laissez-faire capitalist. If a volcano hasn’t erupted in the last few decades, we can use a Gaussian copula based risk model to reassure ourselves that a black swan event like an eruption won’t happen in the future. Given the low, easily ignorable risk to living on the volcano predicted by the model, there’s no need to regulate the building of those expensive vacation condos that will make the developer so much money. And of course, no self-respecting capitalist would build on its slopes if there were the slightest danger of an eruption, it wouldn’t be in their best interests.

Seriously, Obama-Juicers, I always got the impression that the First Amendment was very important to every liberal. It’s a guaranteed Constitutional freedom, after all. All Limbaugh is doing is exercising his right to freedom of speech. Since America is (still) a capitalist society, rather than some Marxist Utopia you leftists would prefer, there’s also nothing wrong from making a profit from exercising one’s freedom of speech.
So why the rage-filled rancor? You Juicers go on and on about how fat Rush is, how obnoxious Rush is, how crass Rush is, ad nauseum.

Republicans are parading the "house" minorities in a cynical attempt to prove how "inclusive" they are. They are promoting them as "The Republican Obama". It means that when Rush speaks, the Republicans jump. When he says Sarah Palin should be Vice President, they nominate her. When a congressman says something vaguely dismissive of Limbaugh, he has to spend two days apologizing for daring to criticize the great man.
We’re pointing out that there’s a man behind the curtain pretending to be a wizard and your response is, "I don’t see a curtain."

And we could take the train from Disneyland to see it.

These Repubs are Comedy Gold. This was an actual story in today’s newspaper, and I don’t mean The Onion:
"SC Senate Leader Closing Confederate Gift Shop"

Rick Perry is a worthless sack of beaver crap! I live in Harris County, Houston, which by the way is refreshingly liberal. I think that Blagopuke and Perry are distant cousins. They both have godawful hair!

LIMBAUGH: … if you think — people on our side I’m talking to you — those of you who think Jindal was horrible, you think — in fact, I don’t ever want to hear from you ever again. … I’ve spoken to him numerous times, he’s brilliant.
That reads like some 16-year-old love-struck girl throwing a temper tantrum because her parents criticized her boyfriend.

It is true that Jindal’s presentation did suck. But if you read the transcript, it was very accurate. And as to your Rush comment… You will always wind up as toilet paper if you are jealous.
You read to much media, put your trust in it, follow like a lemming and put your own brain on hold while doing so. You know how much debt you can handle, apply that same process to the nation.
Everything President Obama said was a visual focus to the future. But it can not be taken as one big chunk. It should be taken as a platform to build on.

Now that there is some serious, high quality crazy. If something could be worked in about squirrels, shale oil and electrifying the railroads, well, I gotta tell ya, I don’t know I don’t think my heart could take it, but it would still be worth seeing.

@Krista:
No, the kid is still packing, apparently. Maybe looking for her keys? I am almost 42 weeks at this point and ready to kill someone. I will be induced on Monday if no action. I really want to avoid that.
Been offline because my mom’s here. And also because I have been walking 2-3 hours a day to try to get the kid out.
Le sigh.

R-Jud: Good luck. I was induced twice. The epidural was my best friend.

I used to drive a lot and listen to Limbaugh for the laughs. Right after GW became pres, I heard him say that he thought George would become a great president. That he was the real deal. That compassionate convservatism would reign forever. He was wrong then. He is wrong now. I can understand why people listen to his show. But I can’t understand why anyone would take him seriously. That goes for Kristol as well. These guys were so wrong, you’d think they would have no credibility left at all.
