Juicers, if you haven’t seen this video of (a clearly half-crocked) John Ziegler getting escorted off USC’s campus for disrupting an appearance by Katie Couric, do yourself a favor now.

(Ziegler is the filmaker behind "Media Malpractice: How Obama Got Elected and Palin Was Targeted," which is chock-full of wingnutty goodness.)

    @TenguPhule:

The only good cat is a declawed belled neutered cat never allowed to roam and poop around the neighborhood.

Love indoor cats, but can’t stand owners who allow their cats outdoors and that kind of rubs off on me not liking the cats. They need to keep their stupid cats from pooping all around the neighborhood. It’s especially a problem when they poop in my front yard. And back yard. Because the damnable cats can climb over the fence.

Dogs, however, are well behaved in my neighborhood. As are their owners. Dogs are walked on leashes and if they poop in people’s yards, the owners are prepared with plastic bags to scoop up the mess.

We’re not fond of cats in this neighborhood. Well, that’s not really true. We’re not fond of most of the owners of cats who let them run all over the place and won’t own up when their cats defecate in other people’s yards.

As a lawyer, I find the reader comment that Sullivan has just posted to express a lot of the things I have been thinking since I read those memos. We lawyers get a lot of flack, much of it justified. However, it is when lawyers like Bybee ignore the ethical obligations we owe to our clients, and (above even our obligations to our clients) to the courts and the law, that criticism is most due. These men sold out their ethics for their beliefs. Disbarring is not good enough.

It was written purely to provide cover. To do that, Bybee and the others involved in these memos knowingly subordinated their oaths as officers of the court and their ethical obligations to give carte blanche to the interrogators and those who directed them. Perhaps they thought it was their patriotic duty; perhaps they thought that the "chatter" mentioned in the memo created an exigent circumstance that demanded that shortcuts be taken; or perhaps they expected that the memos never would see the light of day. I doubt we’ll ever really know. Regardless of the reason, though, the dull legalese conceals an utter lack of respect for the law and for any constraints that the law might require. And that’s what’s really chilling about it.

@85 — Sexy songs are pretty subjective, which is the fun part of it. One person’s "sexy" is another person’s "huh, I don’t get it" at best, and "holy god, that’s cheesy" at worst.

For some reason, this song always puts a pleasant twist to my knickers. There’s something about the tempo that makes me want to install a stripper pole in the bedroom. ;)

To my fellow Texans… it doesn’t matter what you think. Secession is a matter of laws and treaties, not opinions. We don’t give a flyer if 99.9% of you think you have the right to secede. You don’t. Trust me on this one.

But, it kept Rasmussen in the main column all day long, and has a decent amount of links from other sites, so… MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

    Texas House slashes Perry’s Budget:

    —–

AUSTIN – House members virtually wiped out Gov. Rick Perry’s office budget Friday in order to help veterans and the mentally ill.

With little debate, the House on a voice vote approved erasing 96 percent of the nearly $24 million that budget writers had recommended for Perry’s office operation over the next two years.

Some Democrats cast the House’s move as a rebuke of the governor’s recent comments about Texas seceding from the Union.

"That’s the headline: ‘Two days after governor says we ought to secede, House zeroes out the governor’s budget,’ " said Appropriations Committee vice chairman Richard Raymond, D-Laredo.

    —–

This is, by far, my favorite quote in the article:

Perry spokeswoman Allison Castle said, "I think they’re just playing silly games."

OT….the other day you were filling someone in on the phenom of "Cory" in Australia. The next day I was on a tram on Brunswick St in Melbourne and a teen/early 20’s male boarded the tram in — parka with ‘fur’ lined hoodie and big white (guess yellow was sold out?) plastic framed sunnies. So whilst anyone with any sense had hoped that Cory’s 15 minutes were up….sadly, no.

My mother passed away yesterday, after a 3 month fight with peritoneal cancer. I’ve never even heard of this, but it is the lining of your abdomen and it caused her to build up fluids in her organs that had to be drained. She was 72 years old, and not in the best of health to begin with. So it’s been sad watching her suffer so the last few months as she was not strong enough to do chemo and the cancer was already fairly advanced. So they just treated the symptoms, and she had various tubes hanging out to drain the fluids which made her uncomfortable.

The end came quickly. She ended up in the ICU on wednesday with trouble breathing as fluid entered her lungs and her kidney’s and stomach had shut down. While we were all waiting with her friday afternoon her blood pressure began to drop and within a few hours came the end. I’m just glad we were all there at the end, and there was time for my brother to come from Wisconsin with his wife to be there too. The nurses at the hospital were wonderful, as were the doctors.

The saddest piece for me is that she did not live long enough to see her grandson born. My wife’s due date is sunday, and we expect him to be born obviously soon. We’re going to name him Alexander Patrick, as my wife’s grandmothers name was Alexandra and my mothers name was Patricia.

Life is too short. Cherish it.

Have you ever seen the Texas Capitol Building?

They built it expressly to be taller than the US Capitol (as they did with the San Jacinto Monument vs the Washington Monument). It’s gorgeous, but a massive money sink.

The dumbest thing about this is that Rick Perry has about as much actual power over as the Queen of England. Dog Texans all y’all want, but at least they had the sense to castrate their Guv to prevent greedy selfish assholes from detonating their citizens’ welfare for their own ambition. The Texas Leg (which to give them minimal credit at least isn’t as nuts as GA’s) will simply cut his knees off.

Texas also originally banned any interstate banks from operating within their borders, restricting financial institutions to credit unions and local banks.
