Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

We will not go quietly into the night; we will not vanish without a fight.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Republicans do not trust women.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

Let the trolls come, and then ignore them. that’s the worst thing you can do to a troll.

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Hey hey, RFK, how many kids did you kill today?

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

Sometimes the world just tells you your cat is here.

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”

This must be what justice looks like, not vengeful, just peaceful exuberance.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

The real work of an opposition party is to oppose.

If you voted for Trump, you don’t get to speak about ethics, morals, or rule of law.

One way or another, he’s a liar.

GOP baffled that ‘we don’t care if you die’ is not a winning slogan.

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

I admit it, I am tired of the stoopid already. They are not as amusing as they once were.

But then again, if the Pirates are what you got, I’d want the Stillers back too. Also.

So the son of a bitch who murdered our grandson is to be sentenced this week. Apparently he can get up to 16 years, I hope the Judge gives him that and more. Who in this world “punches” a four year old in the stomach “to show him that it hurts” it is all DH and I can do not to go stupid and kill the bastard.

@Litlebritdifrnt: I suspect that real, grownup Florida prison for a skinny white boy like that who will be known as a child killer will probably be far more horrible than if you were to just kill him outright.

    One can hope, anyway.

It ain’t football, but a couple of teams who probably aren’t going to make the finals are playing a pretty good game of basketball on TNT right now. There’s some pretty good banging going on under the rim.

    @The Moar You Know:

I am in Jacksonville, NC, not FL. However, I would think that the hard core criminals in CP in Raleigh would take the same dim view of a child killer in their midst. There is alot more behind this story, (all of which is probably not understood by everyone else) needless to say, we never got to meet Zander (nor his brother Riley) but it doesn’t stop the hurt of him being murdered. DH and I are sick about this, absolutely sick.

Everyone loves the theme music for Monday Night Football. I love it too.

However, I’ve always thought this NBC theme music from the early 1970’s truly kicks ass.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-USPucw3PUE

It’s an infectious theme, especially the horn work, and I never get tired of hearing it.
NBC should never have dropped this theme music. I hate the current theme music for Football Night in America.

John, what have you got against baseball?

This is how I see the torture thing. Did I miss any points?

    1. The United States does not torture.
    2. XYZ techniques (including waterboarding) are considered torture by the entire planet.
    3. Not when we do it, my lawyer said so. The United States does not torture.
    4. Here, let me release some memos from your lawyer you thought would never see the light of day.
    5. Releasing those memos just made us less safe! How could you expose me this way?!
    6. Go fuck yourself, Dick.
    5. The torture was very productive, and to prove it I am requesting other documents be released.

I once posted at a New England Patriots forum, but when I wandered into the political forum, the vast majority of posters were conservative. Their commentary about Obama was so vile during the election that I quit rather than fight them.

I do remember they loved Sarah Palin, though.

Separately, Littlebrit, I hope justice is served. My thoughts are with your family.

You should move to the City of Champions Cole. Yesterday we had the Sox at Fenway, the Marathon, Celtics Playoffs at the Garden, and Bruins playoffs on the tube.

While it’s nice to see Tom Terrific, the most Glamourous Player in the NFL, rehabbing nicely (boinking Gisele no doubt accelerates the healing process) we’re in no rush to put another shelf in the trophy case for this years Lombardi.

I miss football and not just on Monday Night. Sadly, my whole weekend routine had been structured around football. Three months have gone by and I still float around on Saturdays and Sundays trying to keep myself occupied.

I bought a converter to handle digital TV but haven’t been able to get it to work. Right now I can’t get NBC or Fox and come June, won’t be able to pick up anything and not really motivated to figure it out knowing that I have until pre-season before I have to make the effort.

Is it draft frenzy time yet?

@JK: And JK, thanks for the McMillan and Wife style hornwork, those were the days.

It’s an infectious theme, especially the horn work, and I never get tired of hearing it.

    That’s hilarious.

I must be un-‘Merican, cause I don’t give a flying crap about NFL football. It bores me silly – much too slow paced. Instead, it’s EPL soccer (the real futbol) that turns my crank. Some of you might think I’ve got things backward, and next thing I might be ranting about the superiority of cricket to ‘Merican baseball, but you’d be wrong. Cricket is what Monty Python would-a made up to do an insanely satirical skit riffing on ‘Merican baseball, except their compatriots beat them to it. But I digress, now where wuz I?

Oh, yes – nothing against you all who get all orgasmic over ‘Merican football, whatever gets you off. I won’t be watching it much, though.

But I WILL BE WATCHING HOCKEY! GO HURRICANES! Boy howdy that must toast their knickers up in Montreal to see fans down in the southern US cheering on a contender in their hometown that only a microscopic handful among them have ever played, using Canadian and frigid-zone European imported players, while the home-of-hockey where it’s a religion Montreal Candadian team has slid into semi-stinkerdom. (When was the last time Montreal even made the playoffs, let alone advanced very far? When was the last time CAROLINA did? Oh, yeah about 2006. The Stanley Cup…landed in…Raleigh? Mon Dieu!

They really should have football year round. Two leagues would be fine, if it would be too tiring for the guys.

I hate baseball and basketball. One is dullsville and the other is….I dunno, just don’t like it.

Maybe it’s cuz the guys look so cute in their football tights and those huddles….zoom!

You need to think outside the, um, box, fangirl. Those baseballers and their paunches have a very domesticated quality about them. Plus they like to pat each other on the behinds every chance they get.

Oh wait, you’re a grrrl. I guess this would be more a Southern Baptist Republican thang.

The NFL draft is this weekend! So you get a little bit of a fix…. my team, Connecticut, is probably going to have 3 or 4 first day picks. Connecticut! UConn… and not the basketball team.

Miami zero, Notre Dame zippo, Michigan nada… UConn at least 3 in the 1st and 2nd round… I’m hoping for multiple 1st round picks.

I’m also pretty interested in where Pat White goes… I think he’s going a bit higher than most people think.

I’m sort of your typical fan of all sports… I used to follow the Knicks pretty heavily with the John Starks/Patrick Ewing teams… but they’ve fallen off my radar since well Isiah. The NHL has been dead to me since the Whalers were taken away… well except I married a Canadian so I’ve been watching more and more. I live and die Red Sox and UConn basketball and football though.

I hate soccer and Nascar… they both are too long, and goals and crashes happen to infrequently to make it all that interesting.

    @Litlebritdifrnt:

I am so sorry. That is one of the worst things that can happen to a family.

All I can say is mourn, and mourn, and be somewhat grateful there was closure with the culprit clearly identified. The only thing worse, according to people who have shared this with me, are those times when the perpetrator is not known; and never found.
