Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

When I was faster i was always behind.

Wake up. Grow up. Get in the fight.

Anne Laurie is a fucking hero in so many ways. ~ Betty Cracker

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

One of our two political parties is a cult whose leader admires Vladimir Putin.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

These are not very smart people, and things got out of hand.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

DeSantis transforming Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

How stupid are these people?

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

Rupert, come get your orange boy, you petrified old dinosaur turd.

The words do not have to be perfect.

American history and black history cannot be separated.

Radicalized white males who support Trump are pitching a tent in the abyss.

If you’re gonna whine, it’s time to resign!

Our messy unity will be our strength.

Nothing says ‘pro-life’ like letting children go hungry.

    Pens/Caps

I prefer the clicking kind, though the inmates at the prison are always trying to steal those pens to make tattoo needles from the springs. So I use the ones with caps so I can hold onto the cap to remind me that they are borrowing a pen. Jeeze, you just can’t trust people when you work where I work.

He’s quite up-front about what happened to Eight Belles at last year’s Derby having an influence on the decision, too.

That’s an interesting case of synchronicity at work.

My most memorable dream to date ties back to the thread on essential music. I dreamt that I attended a Beatles reunion concert circa 1977 at Madison Square Garden in which they played for nearly 4 hours with a short intermission between sets.

They closed the concert with the Abbey Road medley that culminated in a nearly 20 minute version of The End which featured guest solos from Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, Keith Richards, Mick Taylor, John McLaughlin, and Robert Fripp.

There are a lot of things that are accepted but not literally correct. “Beg” by definition, also includes “to avoid.” This definition includes both. Maybe we all learned a little something here. It’s amazing that one phrase has two nearly opposite meanings.

Regarding OJ Simpson, if you meant the double homicide in L.A., you can go here for some information that makes the prosecution’s theory of their case against Simpson crumble. It’s not new information, though, except for people who depended on cable news for coverage.

Plus, within twelve hours of the murder Nicole Simpson’s parents told the police that they’d talked with her after 11 p.m. on June 12. That is, when Simpson was loading luggage into the limo and Allan Park was smoking a joint and not seeing the Bronco. The information from the parents was in the Coroner’s Investigator’s Report, filed by Investigator Ratcliffe on June 13th. Marcia Clark kept that report out of the criminal trial. You can find it in the appendix of Donald Freed’s
Killing Time although Freed himself didn’t seem to notice it.

    Just saying.

    @smiley:

It is not literally correct to say that one “catches” a plane … so what? There are multitudes of terms and phrases in the English language, going back centuries, that can have no literally correct meaning … again, so what?

By the way, some think the word “beg” in the usage we are discussing actually came from the word “beget.” For example, see David Hume’s An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding (1748), which contains this sentence: “This begets a very natural question; What is meant by a sceptic?”

But I can tell you with certainty that the least liked professors in any of my classes were the ones who were capable of saying things like, “Maybe we’ve both learned something here.”

On the other hand, your inner professor could spend a little time working on those punctuation skills.

What the fuck does that mean? One of the things that I love about being a college professor is my relationships (read learning from) with college students. You don’t know what you’re talking about – I’m not one of your former professors. And I’m never going to apologize for being one.

    Bob In Pacifica

    May 2, 2009 at 10:58 pm

Smiley, until people in the Bush Administration are prosecuted and convicted for torture, it is only a conspiracy theory.

The Ratcliffe report isn’t a theory. Neither are the autopsies. The lack of blood in Goldman’s pleural cavity is in his autopsy. And the lack of aspiration and lack of blood in N. Simpson’s mouth and sinuses are on record. (In the grandest of ironies, Dr. Michael Baden testified regarding lack of aspiration.) Marcia Clark did what would expected with such evidence. She ignored it.
