That begs the question… have you yet identified what you saw/heard earlier in the day/week that inserted the OJ Trial into your subconscious?
Short Bus Bully
Recreational vicodin use finally catching up with you, eh JC?
smiley
@JenJen:
I don’t think that phrase means what you think it means.
Sorry, pet peeve.
John Cole
@Short Bus Bully: I don’t understand.
gnomedad
I’m feeling seriously clueless here. What does the title mean? Did OJ leave an uncapped pen at the scene? “If the cap doesn’t fit you must acquit”?
Just Some Fuckhead
@John Cole: I think he’s talkin about me.
robertdsc
Cindy Crosby is a bitch. I hate him.
Speaking of sports, how did you come to give Tunch his name? Was Tunch Ilkin your favorite player when you were growing up?
GP
You can be happy to know that OJ is learning new things in jail.
smiley
@gnomedad: Hockey game.

Pens/Caps
I prefer the clicking kind, though the inmates at the prison are always trying to steal those pens to make tattoo needles from the springs. So I use the ones with caps so I can hold onto the cap to remind me that they are borrowing a pen. Jeeze, you just can’t trust people when you work where I work.

@smiley:
D’oh! I didn’t even see that line.

My doctor once put me on a new medication whose possible side-effects included “unusual dreams”. That night I dreamed I was attorney-general of Maryland.
Punchy
Wuz gunna ax for a Kuntucky Derby thread, but I guess a Sid/Al thread is gud enuff.
General Quarters for the win. Gunna be sloppy today, and his mutha was a muddah.
HyperIon
Canucks looked good in their first win over the Black Hawks.
Bring the cup home!
JenJen
Bic, round stic medium?
JK
I think this would make a great thread topic. Peoples’ most interesting or favorite dreams.
Punchy
By the way, a big Thanx Ya to John for a hockey thread. Thawt I was the only one who cares about this ice soccer sport.
Al just one-upped Bing with a great one-timer top shelf over a flailing netminder. Nice.

Bruins, baby, Bruins!
The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved.

I had a dream last night that John Cole was really a woman. I am not making that up. It just came back to me when I read JK’s comments. I LOVE doing dreamwork,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreamwork
for my own dreams and those of others.
When I woke from it around 3am I was perplexed, thinking what an intricate hoax it was that all this time, for all these years, John could pull off such a grand deception on so many.
Prolly too much Pinot Grigio. (Coupled with reading too much of the gender bending perv sex thread.)

2 nights ago i dreamt about 2 huge (& I’m talking foot long) crawdads in my pond. I just got back from Kroger’s where I bought 5 live crawdads for 42 cents. These same crawdads are $4.99 @ the pet store.
JenJen
@Laura W: Again, with the Pinot G? :-)
South of I-10
@garyb50: What are you waiting for? Time for a crawfish boil!

Maybe if you used, oh I dunno, the Oxford Dictionary, you’d get over it.

I can haz Kentucky Derby Thread?
Punchy, I’m going with Friesan Fire, but I’d be thrilled if General Quarters pulls it off. What a great story behind the horse.
JenJen
@Nicole: I wish Rachel Alexandra was racing today, instead of yesterday’s Oaks. She’s an amazing filly and she’s going to keep on winning. Best 3-year-old in the country.
I like Dunkirk in today’s Derby.
Punchy
I had a dream the other nite that I saw the GF’s ATM reciept and it had $322K in her checking account. It was so realistic that I hadda ask her in the morn if it were anything close to truth. Nope, natch.
Laura W
@JenJen: If it works don’t fix it. I mean, until I find some Sauv Blancs that I love in the same price range as the PG, or other dry white varietals from furrin’ countries, I’m digging a couple low cost PGs just fine (Including the Beringer 2007. You can get that in the 1.5 liter, BOB.) I like it even when I add Perrier citrus to it!
Don’t do beer…trying to hold off on the Ketel One Citroen.
I’m not yer Jager shots type of girl. Shocking to hear, I know.
The Grand Panjandrum
Blah, blah, blah … Pens lose … blah, blah, blah.
JenJen
@Laura W Intriguing: But, part of the sublime beauty of spirits is that you really don’t have to choose, do you?
You still gotta try that “J” Pinot Gris though.

JenJen, I agree completely. If RA were running she’d be my pick, too. What a show she gave yesterday!
Laura W
@JenJen: Have you told me about that one before? If you did I missed it. J is an excellent producer, and I can tell immediately I’d love it.
1) Russian River Valley (fave CA region)
2) Stainless Steel ferm (NO damn OAK!)
3) Tasting descriptors…perfect for me.
The price is twice what I pay, but I will look for it for sure. Maybe a special occasion will present itself. Like, you know, a Friday Night Open Thread or something really unusual like that.
Edit: Holy smokes! Lookit that 14.5% alkyhal level. Reason #4.

@HyperIon:
It ain’t leavin’ the Eastern Time Zone- and by that, I mean to say it’s stayin’ in Detroit.
Also, i’m rootin’ for the Hawks in that series only because I don’t want to stay up until 1:30am for the conclusions of west coast games two series in a row. LET’S GO RED WINGS! *clap, clap, clap-clap-clap*
Just Some Fuckhead
Or a music thread..

@The Grand Panjandrum:
Hunter was right, but his message had no chance against the Julep-soaked myth perpetuated by network television. Now that Jim McKay is dead, it will be interesting to see if Greater America actually realizes it.
JenJen
@Laura W: I’ve mentioned it before but it was probably in one of those Friday night threads and we were both half-crocked?
Back when people still had really great jobs, I had one where it was once an assignment of mine that I spend two nights at the J Vineyards in Healdsburg. Sigh.
HyperIon
@Andy K:
we’ll see about that.
i’m making a note, Andy K.
Luongo and the Sedin brothers are excellent.

Do you think that members of the Anaheim Ducks elbow people in the head when they shop for groceries, or sign autographs?
MikeJ
What’s wrong with decadence and depravity?
JenJen
@Nicole: I read an interesting piece about Rachel Alexandra and why she’s not racing today. Her breeder and co-owner views the Derby as a “colts’ race” meant to showcase future stallions, and didn’t want to risk having this superior filly get bumped and knocked around in such a large field.
He’s quite up-front about what happened to Eight Belles at last year’s Derby having an influence on the decision, too.
J. Michael Neal
@MikeJ: Not a damned thing. Lust is my deadly sin of choice, but I can respect a good glutton.
Just Some Fuckhead
I’ve got a bottle of Pinot G chillin right now. Don’t care much for the pinot gris grape but I’m just drinking it to get drunk. I’ll prolly have it with breadcrust and apricots on the side so I don’t feel like I’m missing anything important.
JK
@Laura W:
That’s an interesting case of synchronicity at work.
My most memorable dream to date ties back to the thread on essential music. I dreamt that I attended a Beatles reunion concert circa 1977 at Madison Square Garden in which they played for nearly 4 hours with a short intermission between sets.
They closed the concert with the Abbey Road medley that culminated in a nearly 20 minute version of The End which featured guest solos from Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, Keith Richards, Mick Taylor, John McLaughlin, and Robert Fripp.

@Nicole:
No u kan not haz Kentucky Derby thread. It’s glue on the hoof and the decadently rich fops who own them.

I am rooting for the Penguins because I like their unis best. Hey, my team (the Wild!) didn’t make the playoffs this year, so I have to go with a default team. Pittsburgh is my default city for sports because I love me some Troy Polomalu and because black is my favorite color.
By the way, I have a bone to pick with Tattoosydney when he wakes up. I told him he would give me nightmares, and he did.
P.S. I would dig a dreams thread. I have many strange dreams. In fact, at one point in my life, a friend joked that you weren’t really a friend of mine if you didn’t die in my dreams.

OK, my son is the starting goalie on the town’s travel hockey team, and quite the NHL fan as well, and it still took me three reads to figure out the title of the post.

@Laura W @ 19: Interestingly, the ‘Word.A.Day.” from last Thursday was, “pseudandry”: the use of a male name as a psuedonym by a woman. Do you happen to get ‘Word. A. Day.’ as a daily email? Just a thought. Oh yeah, pain meds make me have weird dreams as well. Last night I had a dream that an ex-GF sent me a bunch of lottery tickets in the mail. Riddle me that one, Riddler!
Why am I getting the plain text version of BJ? That never happened before!
2th&nayle
Well, that’s just great! Edited my post twice and still got it wrong; wound up in the modbox to boot! Figures! Must be the Hydros.

@Zuzu’s Petals: Sorry, left my parents basement. Back now.
There are a lot of things that are accepted but not literally correct. “Beg” by definition, also includes “to avoid.” This definition includes both. Maybe we all learned a little something here. It’s amazing that one phrase has two nearly opposite meanings.
Sorry, it’s the professor in me.
Edited.
Bob In Pacifica
Regarding OJ Simpson, if you meant the double homicide in L.A., you can go here for some information that makes the prosecution’s theory of their case against Simpson crumble. It’s not new information, though, except for people who depended on cable news for coverage.
Plus, within twelve hours of the murder Nicole Simpson’s parents told the police that they’d talked with her after 11 p.m. on June 12. That is, when Simpson was loading luggage into the limo and Allan Park was smoking a joint and not seeing the Bronco. The information from the parents was in the Coroner’s Investigator’s Report, filed by Investigator Ratcliffe on June 13th. Marcia Clark kept that report out of the criminal trial. You can find it in the appendix of Donald Freed’s
Killing Time although Freed himself didn’t seem to notice it.
Just saying.
smiley
@Bob In Pacifica: Whoa. There’s a conspiracy theory for everyone these days.
Zuzu's Petals
@smiley:
It is not literally correct to say that one “catches” a plane … so what? There are multitudes of terms and phrases in the English language, going back centuries, that can have no literally correct meaning … again, so what?
By the way, some think the word “beg” in the usage we are discussing actually came from the word “beget.” For example, see David Hume’s An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding (1748), which contains this sentence: “This begets a very natural question; What is meant by a sceptic?”
But I can tell you with certainty that the least liked professors in any of my classes were the ones who were capable of saying things like, “Maybe we’ve both learned something here.”
On the other hand, your inner professor could spend a little time working on those punctuation skills.
Zuzu's Petals
I wanted to edit my prior to be less harshly critical, but ran out of time. So I apologize for the harsh tone.
smiley
@Zuzu’s Petals:
What the fuck does that mean? One of the things that I love about being a college professor is my relationships (read learning from) with college students. You don’t know what you’re talking about – I’m not one of your former professors. And I’m never going to apologize for being one.
Zuzu's Petals
@smiley:
As I said in my next comment, I am sorry for the harsh tone of that comment.
smiley
@Zuzu’s Petals: We’re cool.
A Ghost To Most
Go Caps! That second period was just frantic. This series may just live up to the hype.
I’ve been watching hockey for forty years (and was a goalie in my youth), and I can’t remember a better save than the one Varlamov pulled on Cindy Crosby this afternoon.
Bob In Pacifica
Smiley, until people in the Bush Administration are prosecuted and convicted for torture, it is only a conspiracy theory.
The Ratcliffe report isn’t a theory. Neither are the autopsies. The lack of blood in Goldman’s pleural cavity is in his autopsy. And the lack of aspiration and lack of blood in N. Simpson’s mouth and sinuses are on record. (In the grandest of ironies, Dr. Michael Baden testified regarding lack of aspiration.) Marcia Clark did what would expected with such evidence. She ignored it.
neddie jingo
That Varlamov save (“the save of the tournament!”) has convinced me that my Caps are the Team of Destiny. Good for me to have begun following them as of Game 7 of the Rangers Series last week. I am as of now Rockin’ the Red daily, and will continue to do so until they are eliminated.
(Self-justification: I was a forward with the Lidingö Sports Club in Stockholm from ages twelve to fourteen. Long story.)
You want your weird, opium-soaked fever-dreams? I got ’em right here.
Batocchio
Neddie, I had to post the video of that save. It was astounding. I’m hoping for a good series.
Here it is, for those who missed it:
