Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

The lights are all blinking red.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

They are not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

The words do not have to be perfect.

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

I’m more christian than these people and i’m an atheist.

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

Not loving this new fraud based economy.

So many bastards, so little time.

Dear legacy media: you are not here to influence outcomes and policies you find desirable.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

The low info voters probably won’t even notice or remember by their next lap around the goldfish bowl.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

Everybody saw this coming.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Pens/Caps Game 7

God knows Pittsburgh has some of the best skaters in the NHL, yet so far this game feels like a contest between Marc-Andre Fleury and Alexander Ovetchkin.

Go Pens!

***Update***

I’m used to events proving me wrong, but jeebus. 2 Pittsburgh goals in thirty seconds.

The Caps do seem noticeably quicker, don’t they?

Yeah, that face-off goal was insane. A Penguin took another ballsy shot straight from a face-off earlier in the game.

2nd goal was terrible play by the Caps right wing, and possibly poor goalkeeping as well.

Ovetchkin’s shot that hit the butt end of Fleury’s stick was pretty lucky. Fleury was already down, and the shot went high.

I am going to repost this cause everyone has obviously gone upstairs….

Some assembly required. I have a crafts table in the dining area. On that crafts table (brown paper for backing photographs, glue, etc.) I also have a shoebox with envelopes full of seeds that I have collected from my plants over the years. The cats have dragged some brown paper over to the box and it is now the primo bed in the house, however in order to fit in said box the cat has to sort of dissassemble his parts and reassemble them in a way that makes no sense. Insert head part A into body part b attach leg part c, d, e, and f, then find and attach tail part g, rearrange.

Being a Bills fan and a Caps fan is the very nexus of sports futility. If I was a baseball fan, I’d probably root for the Cubs, and if I was a basketball fan, I’d probably root for the Clippers.

As a former DC area resident, this makes me sad.

As a current Chicago area resident, I know this game doesn’t matter anyway — the Hawks are going to take the Cup.

That’s just too many frakking goals for one game.

I learned to love playoff hockey in the worst stretch of the no-scoring era, about a decade ago, when EVERY. SINGLE. GAME. would go into overtime, and if a series didn’t have a couple of games at least into double overtime, something wasn’t working right.

Sure, sure, it made regular-season hockey completely unbearable, but the playoffs, oh, the playoffs, where a game could last six hours, where forty or sixty minute stretches would strain under the sweet tension of sudden death. Soccer scores. Worse, really. But the current game just doesn’t do anything for me.

(And yeah, I think tournament international soccer should go to unlimited sudden-death periods too. It would make the Cup about 80% less stupid.)

@guyermo: Uhm, you’re missing BU scoring to beat New Hampshire with 15 seconds left, Cornell beating UMass-Lowell with 15 seconds left, Vermont beating Air Force in double overtime on a goal that went through hte net, and wasn’t counted until three minutes of play and ten minutes of review later, #16 seed Bemidji State making the Frozen Four, and BU scoring twice in the last minute to tie up Miami in the final, and then winning in OT.

It was the most insane tournament ever.

UGH! Epic fail for the Caps. I felt bad for Varly, though. He was a HUGE part of the reason the Caps were even there for game 7 so to just implode like that was a bummer.

    Congrats to your Pens!

    @J.Michael Neal:

I know, but I could only find the two videos. And no one wants to sit through a 5-10 minute video of ref’s debating whether the puck did or did not go through the net.

    Most insane tournament ever, indeed!
