The maiden voyage of the Tunchcam, and I tried to get some footage of him playing with his favorite toy. Instead, the lazy bastard just sort of sat there and batted it a little. Figures.

We have a 19 year old toothless cat with more motivation than he.
Ninerdave
The music was a bit too upbeat, I’d suggest a lullaby next time.
(great tune though).
blogenfreude
I forgot who said it, but you should never work with animals or children. WC Fields maybe?
John Cole
@Ninerdave: It was just on shuffle.
Mike S
I never thought I would see a cat that makes my 17 pound tuxedo look slim.
Linkmeister
“What the hell is that?”
“What am I supposed to do about it?”
“Oh, bugger it.”
Ninerdave
HA! Make sure you mouse over Tunch’s head.
Seeley
You tried to get a cat to do something? Well, there’s the problem right there.
JenJen
Bwaaaaaah!! Oh sweet jeebus, I can’t stop laughing!!
But, Ninerdave is right: The tune is super-fun, but it isn’t image-appropriate. For background music, may I suggest this?
You two have a strange relationship indeed, as you’ve said before. It will be interesting to see how you both adapt to that DOG whose LIFE you are going to SAVE TOMORROW.
No pressure.
jl
It is that brutal starvation diet! Poor Tunch is weak and can barely move.
valdivia
nah he is not lazy just deeply observant and analytical and he likes to reserve energy for the real interesting stuff.
jl
Except, I agree with other commenter that you did not dangle the mouse around over and behind Tunch’s head, where he can’t see it. Try that first before you break out the prime rib and shrimp.
Krista
That was hilarious. He’s just sitting there thinking, “What the fuck is your problem, John? Take the hint, I don’t feel like playing.”
Love the music. Tunch may not have been moving much, but the bean and I were definitely both getting our groove on.
robertdsc
John Cole wins the internet. /dies laughing
Tunch is perfect. Perfect, I say!
Irony Abounds
Jesus Christ almighty, that’s one fat cat, lol.
2liberal
that is one fat cat.
ABMcC
Your readers are so judgmental! I think Tunch’s adorable!! Of course any self-respecting cat is not going to “perform” for strangers. What were you thinking of?? P.S. I got a furminator on your advice for my Maine Coon cat. Very satisfactory!
Ninerdave
I was gonna mention it in the adoption thread, but that’s old, so I’ll mention it here. Black cats are the the hardest cats to adopt out. The main reasons might surprise you.
Laura W
Riveting!
A long overdue site enhancement.
May as well just give him his own blog now.
The clamoring will never stop.
Max
I’m new here and I’d love to hear how the name “Tunch” came about. It’s quite original, I feel there must be a story.

@jl:
Actually that comment was telling you to put your mouse over tunch’s head. You’ll understand why when you do it.

Time to call in Confuse-A-Cat Ltd.
2liberal
suggestion: start pretending you have a dog.

I furminated my old cat Nathan today. I was kind of surprised at how much fur I got out of his TAIL. Now I’m planning to use the cast-off fur to make another cat.
Tattoosydney
0.22 – when Mr Tinkle hits Tunch in the head and goes “bink”, but Tunch doesn’t react at all – made me laugh. Such a cute cat.
Roza
Love me some Tunch …Best Cat Evah!
Laura W
@Ninerdave: Yup. Annie was my first foster. I wanted to adopt a fat, white, long-haired boy and I ended up adopting a skinny, black, short-haired girl. (She’s fat now). Never in my life would I have selected a black cat. Uninteresting, blah blah blah. She’s hysterical. How can you not keep a cat who sticks her tongue out at you when faced with a camera?
You don’t always get what you (think you) want, etc etc.
Ninerdave
@Max:
After Tunch Iikin. Read the first line of his bio and you’ll know why.
Ninerdave
@Laura W:
That picture is Awesome.

Which one of those objects was the couch? The big furry thing that didn’t move, or the other thing that looked like it was covered in a blanket?
dmv
I totally LOL’d when the toy kept hitting him in the head, and he sort of just looked at it like WTF?
GReynoldsCT00
Love it! Finally live action inaction shots :)
Bob In Pacifica
The ad on top of the page. This Phentramine now available without prescription, what does it do and why are all the doctors and nurses smiling? Do I lose weight or get an erection?
Bob In Pacifica
Because smiling nurses in their white coats can give me an erection without the Phentramine.
Davex99
MegaLOL.
Neither dangly mouse nor Stevie Wonder will budge the Tunch.
He is teh awesome.
Do you really think this cat wants a dog? Or are you punishing him for his laziness?
HyperIon
@jl:
yeah, that toy makes him look fat.
Max
@Ninerdave: Ahh, Steelers. Got it. Thx.
Betsy
You people are going to wear me down with all these pet adoption threads. I’m going to end up with 2 more cats and a puppy and it will be ALL YOUR FAULT.
kid bitzer
god, stevie wonder is just awesome.
that cut is, what, 35 years old? and so goddamned fresh.
great cat, too.
JenJen
Hey!! By the way, where’s the Ginny and Guesly pics/videos/anything because they are adorable/stuff? Me Want.

We recently adopted three kittehs, one of them being an old tom of an unknown age. The vet guesses that he is around ten years old and had only five teeth left. That was last month, now he has two left and they don’t meet…lol
The other two are young cats (two years or less), one of them being a former feral female who had been hit by a car and lost most of her tail in the mishap and the other being a black longhair male who is handicapped with a huge ego. ;) The old tom makes the other two look positively geriatric. He is always looking for something to do and he plays his ‘games’ for hours on end, keeping himself entertained.
The feral female is a ‘fraidy cat, which is understandable as domestic life is a confusing mess of noise and lots of moving people. We decided to isolate her in the laundry room (the noisiest room in the house as we also have our servers running in it), keeping the door open but putting up a gate. She was scared to death of the noise for the first day but she quickly acclimated to it. Now she has a favorite spot to nap on the top of one of the servers, right above the hard drives (nice and warm!). When she stopped running and hiding from people entering the laundry room, we took the gate down to let he wander. She is now voyaging out in the evening to check things out and has mellowed out very well.
She viewed everything as a threat and with four people in the house (plus visitors at times), there was just too much for her to keep track of and she would freak out and hide. Sometimes you could be holding her and move to do something (like scratch your nose) and she would explode into a writhing ball of teeth and claws that you did your best to get away from real fast. She no longer freaks out, at the most she will crouch, lay her ears back and back away if something confuses or scares her, but quickly comes forward when she is assured that things are safe where before she would hide and not come out.
It has taken a lot of work to get her whipped into shape to be a house cat but it is worth it. She is a very affectionate and cute kitteh, and her and the old tom are best buds. They gang up and keep the black cat with the huge ego in check. I think she could kick his ass in ten seconds and she is not impressed with his hissing as she regularly invades his ‘personal space’, forcing him to retreat.
I give them food and they give me shit. Somehow it works out. ;)
John, cats don’t perform when they know you want them to. It’s just the way they roll. You gotta sneak up on them for the good shots.

@Politically Lost:
Bahahaha. Tunch goes to great effort to move as little of himself as possible. He is the 800 lb. man equivalent waiting to happen.
(He’s also frickin’ adorable.)
Maybe you should try cheese on a string, John Cole.
asiangrrlMN
@Laura W: Awwwwww, there’s that gorgeous girl. I got exactly what I wanted. Two black boy cats who are brothers and who are extremely bonded to each other.
Tunch looks quite, um, robust! He’s such a cutie.
DougJ
That might be my favorite Stevie Wonder song.
Litlebritdifrnt
Sorry John but Tunch looks like my Cadbury, almost about to give birth to eleventy kittens, my lord he is a portly cat.
Turgidson
That’s some pretty awesome apathy right there.
Mary
Tunch is even cuter than I thought. The rest of you are just haters.
kwAwk
I’m hoping that atleast you have the excuse that this is a new video camera you are testing out and not that it is the maiden voyage of the latest and not so greatest form of cat blogging.

@kid bitzer:

“Get in my belly” hahahahaha!
My cat approaches toys the same way. String, however, gets her every time.
