I was gonna post a Lily update, but she didn’t do anything new or exciting and then my camera battery died. I suppose I could recycle a Tunch pic, because he never does anything new. Then I just decided I would take the night off from pets.
*** Update ***
Fine. Here is one:
Tunch is in the front window, so the futon was free.
TenguPhule
He shifts between fat and large moon.
Kennedy
A night off from pets? Unacceptable!
You could always post something from the veritable stack of pet pics that get sent your way.
Hana
Noooooooo! Lily makes my day! Get a new battery!
Delia
Question: is this a politics and pets blog? Or pets and politics?
jrosen
Does anybody know what has happened to Washington
Monthly? And why this window is bleeding into the
right-hand column?
Comrade Stuck
There is never a night off from my Purl the Parakeet. He’s fed up with cable news and let’s me know it.
But since all this double dealing from Obama is causing some paranoia, I thinks a re-watching of All the Presidents Men is in order.
Sometimes I miss the Nixon, and his pure criminal clarity.
Comrade Stuck
@jrosen:
No problem here. Maybe you could adjust the drunk knob.
Just kidding.
BDeevDad
Congress passed a cash for clunkers bill. It’s just a coincidence you mentioned recycling.

…which means I should have 4 or 5 new pet articles by the time I get home, right?
I keed, I keed…
Enjoy your evening and your pets.

I wish I could help here with the pet pix jonesing that is surely to ensue. I had every intention of having something fabulous to offer at this very moment. But I have been trying to upload to youtube SINCE THIS MORNING a darling video of Annie getting all riled up while we were reading the gay rights thread together this morning. It is shorter than yesterday’s video of Sadie And The First Blueberries and has taken 20x as long to upload. WTF? I have stopped it three times today on Firefox as it stalled halfway through. I am now trying to upload it via Safari. We are barely less than halfway there.
Please to check back here in 1:10:41 for the worldwide debut of:
You’re Swiping At The Wrong Camera Strap!
I wish someone would’ve told me that uploading to youtube sucks ass. Or at least tell me what I’m doin’ wrong.
Violet
Lily might be ready for a night off. That way she doesn’t have worry about her makeup or being ready for the camera. She has been something of a target of a paparazzi as of late. Tunch, well, he only humors The Furminator. And if that gets him camera-ready, it’s all the same to him.
Laura W
Also. I went to our natural foods market today and stocked up on my favorite proteins. Tonight the Foreman Grill just cooked to perfection two Greek lamb burgers. BUT, my market has changed the ingredients. In addition to the ground lamb, there is feta, sundried tomatoes, and artichoke hearts. They are the best ever! Super moist. I am going to request that they add Kalamata olives. Or maybe I’ll just buy another jar and add my own.
These are really exceptional. They can often be dry. Of course, that could
possiblysurely be Grill Operator Error.TR
I like stories.

Woids. Woids. Pics are nice, but woids will suffice. After the day I’ve had, I really was looking forward to some pet patter from you.

Just saw a commercial for an Obama chia pet. What’s next, the sweat off of his balls in a small vile for $29.95?
Comrade Stuck

I’m was gonna email you a pic of my garden John but my camera memory stick is full and I’m too lazy to transfer the pics.

I love that John explained the Tunch was looking out the window so the futon was free. I was just getting ready to ask if Tunch was under Lily….
Tunch has a lot of self-esteem. He doesn’t have to do something new. He just “is” and he knows we love him for it.

Last year someone mentioned the website atdhe.net and once again, I want to thank them.. It’s not often that I can watch the Red Sox.
Violet
Aww…she looks so little in that picture. You’ve said she’s a small dog, but she always seems fairly big to me in her pictures. But in this one she looks little. She really is adorable. Thanks for the pic.
John Cole
@Violet: It is really weird. She is teeny tiny, but she doesn’t seem small, if that makes sense.
I don’t have a crate for the car yet, so she sits on my left thigh with her head out the window when I drive, so she is small enough for that, but when we walk, she seems so much bigger.
JL
@John Cole: Did your vet tell you how old he thought Lily was. Her legs are more muscular than Moxies. I had Goldens and a Shar Pei and Moxie at her 18 pounds appears as large to me.
You Don't Say
Please post daily Lily updates until at least she makes it through obedience school. Thanks.
Litlebritdifrnt
I love the chillin pic, she is obviously settling in. Sigh. PS thanks for the link to the rumproast post last night John, I really appreciate that more than you will ever know. Whatever we can do to save these poor puppy mill dogs, whatever we can do.
Lesley
Rule of thumb: New and exciting behaviour isn’t a requirement for posting photos or updates. I keep saying this to the elephant sanctuary (www.elephants.com). The more stories and anecdotes, the better. What the Sanctuary might consider mundane is never boring for us fans.
Sounds like Tunch and Lilly are getting along.

@Laura W:
Just came in for the night shift and haven’t read all the comments, but I think YouTube is very time-of-day sensitive: when you’re uploading in the early evening you’re competing with all the after-work and after-school idlers in America. Maybe better to try later at night or first thing in the morning.
Or so I have been told by a friend who uploads to YouTube a lot.
Now I will actually read the rest of the comments and see how awfully wrong I am.
Edit: Plus you’re competing “locally” with everyone else who uses your ISP (North Carolina Rural Telegraphy Co-Op?).

Still no joint pet pictures? It’s a conspiracy! Except I’m not quite sure what it’s a conspiracy for… well I can always invent something cryptic.
Two-pet pics or the mustard-lovers win!
Violet
@John Cole:
Maybe she seems big because of all the love in her heart for you for saving her. Aww… She must be kind of small if she can sit with you while you’re driving.
Does she like to stick her head out the window? I was behind a truck the other day that had a schnauzer hanging it’s head out the window. It’s ears were going flapitty-flappity-flappity in the wind. I was cracking up so much I could hardly drive. Dog looked like it was having the time of its life.

If you took separate pics of Tunch and Lily on the same spot on the futon, with the same blanket stripes in the background, it would be simple to photoshop together a side-by-side “two-shot” matching the stripes. (Post the pics and many Tunch and Lily fans would be happy to oblige.) Then we could at least see who’s littler. Take a pic of a football on the same spot, and a “three-shot” could help further gauge.
Or just take a pic of each pet next to a football.
John Cole
You all have no idea how much I love this dog. And I finally understand what my mom meant when she said she loves all of us equally, jut differently.
It’s sad, really. I have only had her a week and I dunno what I would do without her.
Fulcanelli
@ John Cole: You all have no idea how much I love this dog…
Yes we do. There’s no going back, bro. You’re a dog person now and we all knew it would happen.

@MazeDancer: Hah!

@John Cole:
OK. I am not a sentimentalist by any stretch of the imagination, but damn, that is a wonderful affirmation.
Lily seems to be an incredibly sweet dog. You two seem to have brought out the best in each other.
I hope the two of you continue to have great adventures together.
Comrade Stuck
@John Cole:
Oh, I think we do. And it’s about the best thing that’s happened to this blog, as well as you and Lily.
Lesley
Came back to look at Lily and she’s saying a lot in that photo.
The expression in her eyes and position of her ears suggest passivity though she’s also holding herself somewhat rigidly (flight or fight habit, probably); but there’s something else there, something in her expression that makes her hesitate to spring.
Lily senses she’s in a safe place. Everything about her environment – though foreign and not what she’s habituated to – is kind and welcoming. The vibes are good. She may not be used to security and she may fear it’s a dream (not literally but in her psyche), and she may still be prepared for the worst, but after looking at the photo for awhile, I think I see the play of a smile around her jaw line.
Dogs, especially, are highly emotional creatures. It’s why we and they get along so well.
Violet
@John Cole:
We might have some idea. We did watch you fall in love. She’s a lucky dog and you are lucky to have found her. You guys are great together.
shelley matheis
Love her expression. Kinda like ‘Lord, there he goes with the camera again. Can’t a gal get a little shut eye?’
Roger
@John Cole,
It really is remarkable to me how much Lily looks like our dog, Goldie. Same color and fur type, body shape, gentleness, lack of bark (she sometimes does a sort of yodel)… It’s been a mystery to us what she is, breed-wise… best we could come up with was a Feist (a southern dog apparently used for hunting squirrels – related to Rat Terriers) mix (possibly with some portion of whippet). Anyway, if Lily is anything like Goldie, then you have yourself one great dog. Worthless as a guard dog, won’t chase a ball and dislikes water, but ideal in many other ways… smart, obedient, great with kids and cats, and very sweet.
