I’m not sure if it is just the beautiful summer and my desire to spend more time outside, but I’ve been struggling to blog substantively lately. As such, pet pics (not that I need an excuse):
I just love the deep red in that top photograph. Here is another open thread.
The Dangerman
Third one could be me, propped up on a chair, remote at the handy; with a beer in it’s paw, it would have me nailed (oh, shit, that’s a bad word tonight).
Speaking of which, if the contenders continue to fall out with an ever increasing burn rate (gotta admit, cheating with an Argentinian chick barely beats out banging the wife of a campaign manager), last one left standing could be Sarah Palin. Even with the outcome in no doubt, do we really need to subject ourselves to that punishment? I mean, Spinal Tap was funny, too, but would we really want to listen to their music (at 11, of course) for about a full year straight?
trollhattan
Dag, is that third critter a kitteh or a sloth?
Excellent capture of the remote prior to goin’ Galt, kitteh; now kitteh needs a beer, stat!
Comrade Stuck
We are getting some much needed rain today. Not much, but it’s cloudy and has cooled down. It’s a game of nerves until the desert SW Monsoon season begins around the first of July.
Every day from April thru June is one with worry about dying in a fire, or at least having your home become a pile of cinders. Plus it means a lot less watering the garden.
John Cole
@The Dangerman: Romney.

I was thinking a miniature JTH. Cats are weird.

You are failing me, John.

Great pictures! Earlier someone posted about rescuing an adult cat because of your posts. Hopefully they will send in pics.

Romney? He has a Mormon problem.

I live two miles north of Pearl Harbor, but I’d been here 25 years before I actually visited the Arizona Memorial.

Where are you people that it’s so nice outside? I can’t even go near my windows out of fear of melting.

Bwah-hah-hah.
Erickson at RedState says: “We have each other. I’m off in a bit to hang out with friends from my Bible Study. Sanford probably has none of that. I’m sure John Edwards did not. Nor Bill Clinton. Nor John Ensign.”
In fact, Ensign and Sanford were part of the same bible study group, according to TPM.

@John Cole: He’s got a dog problem. Although tying a dog in a kennel on top of a station wagon seems to pale in comparison with other problems.

@Jon H: Bible study? Is that what the wingnuts are calling it now? Heh.

@Comrade Stuck:
you can have ours. seriously, NYC feels like the PNW so far this month. it’s rained like 2/3 of the days this month. my tomatoes and squash are sending me death threats in the mail.

I use to think the GOP was going to be out in the wilderness for a good long while.
Now I realize they’re just enjoying the beauty of the Appalachian outdoors.

@chopper:
LOL. no thanks. I’ve lived back east where sometimes you sit around thinking about Arks.

Mark Sanford was smeared because he was close to discovering the truth about Barack Obama’s Fake Birth Certificate.

Anyone going to NYC should most definitely do the tourist stuff. I used to go to NYC every other weekend or so in my late teens/early 20s to visit my then-boyfriend who is a food photographer (if you have a Mario Batali cookbook or ever pick up Gourmet, you’ve seen his work). And we were much too cool to do the touristy stuff. We pretty much went to great restaurants and then to jazz or blues bars and then would end the night at CBGB’s before it was famous. No Central Park or 30 Rock or Ellis Island or Times Square (which was nothing but porn theaters, hookers, and junkies then but…well). I did that for about 5 years. That was quite stupid. I have since done every touristy thing imaginable whenever I go back. And every one them has been well worth it. There’s a good reason the tourists go to certain places in NYC. Avail yourself of them. You won’t regret it. I adore New York and if I didn’t adore Pittsburgh more, that would be where I make my home.

@David:
That explains his frequent trips to South Africa.
gwangung
Goodness, those are PRETTY pictures. Like the photo takers knew what they were doing (unlike me).
Punchy
Dog park? Again?
I think sometimes dogs just like to chill out.
MikeJ
We went 29 days without a drop of rain here in the PNW while NY was getting rain everyday. I’m sure in October or so we’ll get our share again. If you don’t like the weather here, just wait six months.
Death By Mosquito Truck
@Punchy:
Not John’s dog. John’s dog is a selfish little bitch that wants John all to herself, the rest of us be damned. I knew this was gonna happen.

Obama’s on ABC..
demimondian
@MikeJ: In fact, we came within fourteen minutes of setting a new record for the longest period without measurable rainfall. May and June have been DRY.
Fortunately, we got more than our share of snow last winter, so the snow pack in the Cascades is deep enough that we’re not going to have too many wildfires in August.
Aaron
Is this the thread for commenting on the Health Care town hall on ABC?
If not, can we make it so?

@JL: Can’t believe I’ve got my TiVo set to record something on Corporate TV (on the West Coast). I only ever watch PBS (and selected programs uploaded to the TiVo).

i can’t believe you didn’t share our 3 dog adventure this evening or talk of how samantha just fell over on the rails trails (ha!) – and i also can’t believe you have yet to post the modest picture of sam from the office that i sent you last week.
regardless, i love you and will forgive the fact that sam doesn’t get much air time around here even though she is going to be silly lily’s bestest friend!

Wow, all these thoughtful answers to the questions makes me think of two things:
1. How can wingnuts tie in a teleprompter criticism?
2. It is nice to have a president that is both intelligent and coherent

We’ve been getting tons of rain here too — last week was gorgeous, but this week has just been…soggy. Bleh.
That Boston looks like such a little sweetie-pie. I want to kiss him on his muzzlepowsche.

Tammy, you’re Samantha’s owner? Can I just say that she is the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life? That photo of her in the life jacket where she was laughing made me clap my hands together with glee.

I had a dog adventure today. My neighbor helped me discover the place where my dog’s been slipping through the fence. He’s a confirmed escape artist. This last week he’d discovered a new way out and I’d had several calls from people in the neighborhood that my dog was over visiting. So we found a couple of places where he could be squeezing out. One of them even had dog fur on the sides. The funny thing was Pippin started getting agitated and upset when we started looking for his escape holes. So I put him in the house. Then my neighbor’s husband came over and nailed a couple of pieces of plywood over the areas where he was getting out. Pippin was at the window howling. After they left and I let him back in the yard he went straight to the spot to see if he could figure out a new angle.
Don't ignore Aaron :)
@Aaron:
Agreed (you’re not the only one watching)
John Cole
@Krista: Yes, that is Sam’s mom.
We went to the rails to trails after dinner instead of the dog park, and we took her neighbor’s golden retriever, Abby. It was kind of funny, because Abby just gets on the leash and moves forward with the speed and intensity of a plow-horse, paying no attention to anything in her path, Lily sort of just meanders by my side, and Sam, all full of piss and vinegar, is firing down the trail on the warpath, panting and huffing and puffing and full of intensity.
We got a mile down the road, and I had Sam and Lily, and Sam just veered off the path, into the shade, and did the fosbury flop into the grass. We got hysterical, walked about a half mile more, then Tammy had to put Sam in her backpack and carry her most of the way back.
That little dog is such a spaz, and is actually cuter in person.

now, cole… what you just wrote above totally does our dog adventure justice. and yes, i am sam sam’s owner – i’m overwhelmed by this dog! she is perfect. i also am the proud animal parent to 5 cats. 4 of which have been proudly displayed on this site. i have the 33 pound cat tyler, who was on the chelsey lately show and who also received much flack around here for being obsese (but he isn’t he’s just a big boy!), baxter, chelsea (r.i.p.) ailis, and bailey and brenna (who are both crazy calicos!) i live in a zoo however i wouldn’t have it any other way.
hopefully i can get cole to add some pics of sam from last week. they are crazy cute and just perfect –

For those that have set their Tivo, the Obama townhall will continue on NightLine so make adjustments.

@geg6: Its not that I don’t appreciate that some places are “touristy” because they are worth it, but I don’t want to hear my father throw a tizzy-fit. How do you tell a guy who works 7-days a week in 120-degree heat to STFU and stop being a WATB?

While you’re waiting for NightLine, you can watch a repeat of US vs Spain on ESPN2, right now. I’m very excited to see it, but I wish we would have the british commentators for our matches. They’re just better at it.

also, please a moment of silence for the very faithful friend Zoe who had to be put down recently due to cancer.
walked her many times, and was always greeted with a slipper and a wag. I’m still so sad I miss her very much.
although I am sure not nearly as much as her owner and boyfriend Barney who will miss her forever. (he has cancer too – benign so far)

Rainy, but mild-ish. Our winters have been harsher than usual lately, but normally they’re about what you folks would get n coastal New England.
You want cold, go to Resolute. It is to Nova Scotia as Nova Scotia is to the Bahamas, basically (which is why I laugh when people talk about “Canadian weather” — we’re a pretty damn big country, folks.)
