Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Infrastructure week. at last.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Come on, man.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

George Bush Is Jealous

I’m reading Sarah Palin’s statement again, because this still makes no sense this morning, and this had me laughing:

I will support others who seek to serve, in or out of office, for the right reasons, and I don’t care what party they’re in or no party at all. Inside Alaska – or Outside Alaska.

But I won’t do it from the Governor’s desk.

Her resignation simply makes no sense at all. I feel the same way I did a couple weeks ago when Sanford was AWOL and no one knew where he was- you have no evidence that he was doing something wrong, but the behavior is just so bizarre you can’t figure it out. Her logic is just baffling- she is not goin g to run again, and that makes her a lame duck, so therefore she is just going to quit a year and a half early so she does not succumb to the same old politics as usual? So is she opposed to anyone ever running for a second term?

This just makes no sense, even the next day. Something is going on.

that whole lame duck issue she babbled about — how lame duck governors partake in wasteful overseas trips and she didn’t want to get caught up in that. i mean, wtf… where does it say she’s mandated to make those trips. couldn’t she have better made/illustrated the point by remaining in office and noisily declining those little perks.

The last two weeks for the GOP–Ensign admits his affair, Sanford implodes, Franken finally beats Coleman, and now Palin implodes–probably makes them long for the good ol’ days of the 2008 election!

I thought about how much fun some governors have as lame ducks… travel around the state, to the Lower 48 (maybe), overseas on international trade – as so many politicians do. And then I thought – that’s what’s wrong – many just accept that lame duck status, hit the road, draw the paycheck, and “milk it”. I’m not putting Alaska through that – I promised efficiencies and effectiveness !

Agree with Linda @3. Palin says “Lame ducks are lazy. I promised the opposite. Therefore, I will quit.”

Who would want her “support?” (said in a high squeaky voice of absolute incredulity).

I am ever amazed at her ability to mangle the language–it proves again that she has never read a damned thing. Her syntax is so grating, and her desperate attempt to sound smarter (?) makes her reach for the oddest metaphors (which she almost never completes).

@dsc: Almost a decade ago, one of my (journalism) professors was at a seminar with the late Peter Jennings. Someone asked what colleges could do to train future journalists, and Jennings replied, basically, to teach them about the world they were in. He said he had twenty people who could put up a satellite link between Croatia and LA in seconds; but who couldn’t tell you where Croatia was or why it mattered in the greater geopolitical world.

I think exactly nothing has changed.

Something may be going on, but I just don’t think so. I know it’s more exciting to dig for some attempted grand design, but maybe this is just reaping the flawed harvest of stupid seeds. I feel she was over her head before McCain “tapped” her. What we saw yesterday was the flawed implementation, of a incomplete plan by a largely inept political actor. Happens all the time, just usually not at this level.

‘Course, Palin is getting a (temporary) last giggle, as contributions to her PAC have jumped during the last 24.

There is no doubt in my mind that there is a shitstorm of a scandal about to hit. But the explanations coming out so far don’t make any sense to me either. I mean, petty grift from a contractor? Seriously? Ted Stevens didn’t step down even after getting convicted for that. It HAS to be bigger than that becuase of there was a photo illustrating the definition of “blind ambition,” it would be of her. I can’t imagine that she’d so hastily step down over that. I’m waiting with baited breath for it to break. Should be awesome. I can’t stop thinking about Todd and the AIP connection. Those nuts have “domestic terrorists” written all over them.

Just read this in the NYTimes article. Can’t say it shocks me.

But at another point she invoked a military quotation, misattributing it to Gen. Douglas MacArthur, in what seemed to be an effort to wave aside any suggestion that she was abandoning the fight. “He said, ‘We’re not retreating; we are advancing in another direction,’ ” she said. (The remark was actually said by Maj. Gen. Oliver Prince Smith.)

The asshole thinks that because Palin is a celebrity that people will forgive her if she tries for 2012 (right, because the big guys within the party thought she was viable before randomly resigning as governor with two years before she would start running). The Beltway is full of assholes.

Howard Fineman is saying that in his view this is a total sign of her trying to run for 2012. He’s a fucking dumbass, not even most the people at FreeRepublic think she’s going to run anymore and you know how batshit they are.

The “hell yeah” along with the “I don’t think lame duck governors should take fun trips on the taxpayers dime” comments make me think she just got a huge offer from Fox for a show.

Make millions of dollars, have fun, “travel around the state, to the Lower 48 (maybe), overseas on international trade” ? Hell yeah!

Plus, it keeps her wingnuttiness in the public eye, minus the need for any actual governing, until 2012. Although really, does she even WANT to be president in 2012? Clearly, she hates the work of governing.

Money, power and nice clothes are what it’s all about for her, and she doesn’t need to run for office for that if she’s got a nice cushy Fox job.

Probably she’ll just dangle the 2012 prospect in front of the right wing to keep the cash rolling in for the next few years on Fox. Then the Wasilla Grifter will announce that sadly, her lucrative job on Fox is just too too important for America — and Alaska! – to give up.

Maybe she’s tired of the governing thing and wants to make some money before her star power fades or she’s about to get hit with a scandal. Why wouldn’t she immediately resign if there is a pending indictment?

Yup. Of course, on at least one rightwing blog (Pam Atlas’s, I think) you’ll find praise for Palin’s not having used a teleprompter.

@geg6: Shitstorm of a scandal does seem to be the wise bet. It is my pick, too.

One thing I noted, and I think it is emblematic of Republicanism (as party vs. neocon as “political theory”, *cough*) is from Kristol’s comment that Palin had done most of what she could do as governor already, so why not quit?

Pause and breath the stink of that in for a second. Holding office is about building your vitae – governing is not the point. We knew that, we have seen so many episodes that prove that the last 8.5 years, but there you see it in the reasoning of a flick of the wrist comment. The governing logic of Republicanism is completely opposed to government as anything other than a power mechanism. Holding office is like corporate ladder climbing – take a job long enough to get a bump and ditch it for the next opportunity. Government is no different than private sector enterprise in terms of job responsibility. It saturates the entire mentality of Republicanism; it is the constitutive impulse that defines it. From there you get a complete disregard for public interest and democracy as they are just canvas for grandiose, incoherent rhetoric coupled with venal, bumbling power mongering.

10 months later I still don’t understand what was so “genius” about it. I mean obviously it was a stupid choice but I cannot even fathom why it would be “genius” even with warped thinking. She was an ignorant jackass with a separatist husband, who is such a hypocrite she doesn’t even notice the cognitive dissonance with her views on abstinence and her knocked up teenage daughter, who knew nothing about anything of relevance, who couldn’t answer a debate question (not even a poor answer), who almost half of the country thought she was NOT qualified to be in her position of power, who was riled up in numerous corruption scandals, who encouraged people thinking that our current President is a socialist terrorist.

Please, someone tell me how she was helpful in doing anything that was a net positive for the GOP or even McCain’s campaign (sure she brought the wingnuts to the rallies but since these are the same people yelling “terrorist, shoot him” I doubt McCain wouldn’t have gotten them).

In one way this does kind of make sense if you put your head in a 21st Century GOP place. To the modern GOP it is all about campaigning not governing. In the real world the best way to get a promotion is to do your current job well. Not only does that get the attention and argue for the next step, but you hopefully learn something from the intermediate jobs to do the next job better. In politics this means getting elected to progressively bigger positions and accruing a track record, a team, and skills along the way so that if you do win the next election you will be better at governing.

But the modern GOP is all about winning the next election and governing is an afterthought at best and a means to win elections at worst. She won the only race for the Alaska governorship she will ever run. Governing is for losers. Task accomplished, move on to the next which is winning the presidency.

It doesn’t make sense to me, especially since she will be facing all kinds of accomplished governors and ex-governors in the Republican Primary who will beat her senseless for being a quitter. But then I think governing well is the best way to get elected and sustain a movement, so what do I know?

This looks so hurried that it’s clear she was pushed. But by who? No matter the nature of the scandal or indictment, she’d probably be in a better position to fight it with her hands on the levers of power. My thinking is that whatever it is must be big enough that there’s no surviving it politically and, perhaps, even economically. And that the big money republicans promised her wingnut welfare in the future if she jumped ship now to minimize the contagion of the rest of the party. I just can’t imagine what would be that big, though. Certainly not a Ted Stevens type scandal. She looked like someone who is running scared, and even a corruption scandal seems unlikely to do that to her.

Her book deal is supposedly worth around $7 million. I wonder how much of that is predicated on book sales? If I remember correctly, it is to be published by both HarperCollins and Zondervan. Maybe they are betting on a large evangelical turnout to by the Zondervan edition.

When I was a kid, we would go to Maranatha, http://www.vacationwithpurpose.org/ just up Lake Michigan from us, some Sundays we would drive down to Gull Lake http://www.gulllake.org/ and we even went to Winona Lake, although it seems to have stopped having the Bible conference. There is a ready market for her book at these venues. Here’s an upcoming speaker:

    Week 9, August 15–21
    Carl Kerby
Carl Kerby is a founding board member of Answers in Genesis and is one of the most dynamic lecturers on the Book of Genesis. A former air traffic controller at Chicago’s busy O’Hare International Airport, Carl’s thrilling testimony has been shared in churches throughout America.
    Missions Emphasis: Answers in Genesis

By the way, if the answers are in Genesis, to question is Genesis 24:9 an answer?

And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and sware to him concerning that matter.

Two things I do not understand are women and wingnuts and Sarah Palin may encompass the most impenetrable aspects of both, but I keep trying to see how the resignation could be a positive thing for her. Obviously my opinions are distorted due to the aforementioned lack of understanding.

The only positive political result I can see from this is that she believes that this move will get her the Republican presidential nomination. This will not win the general election, mind you, but if she loses that contest, it will be someone else’s fault. She will now have time to fully lambaste Obama and the media in her uniquely obtuse, nonsensical way.

I asked my wife ( who is not very political at all) for her analysis and she said it sounds like Sarah Palin was bored. She had no idea why, but she accepted that it was logical that Palin would resign out of boredom. Makes as much sense as anything else I’ve heard and it plays into her apparent high regard for herself.

If we eliminate the positives, then her reasons for resigning must be due to negatives. I keep coming up with false positives. But then again, I understand neither women nor wingnuts.

It’s obvious she’s about to get hit with a scandal tsunami.

First off there’s the petulant and panicked tone of the whole rambling mess.

And hard though it is to decipher anything Palin says, she referenced the rest of her term as wasting time and taxpayer money several times. Others have assumed this was about lame-duck governor junkets. I took it to mean that once the shit hits the fan, she’ll be so immersed in trying to defend herself against legal charges that nothing will get done, particularly since she coupled the references with “the media climate” at least twice. She even tried to work in a “if you criticize me you hate the troops!” meme, though because of her verbal dyslexia it takes some deciphering to get to it. It starts out with a shameless pander to the best people ever to live, our troops, and she turns it around to “that’s what should be our priority – looking after them, not nitpicking at me.” That’s a paraphrase of course, because if I cut and pasted what she said verbatim, you’d all have to spend several minutes on the translation.

She kept going back to how she and her family have been persecuted by the media and others as if this somehow would prevent her from doing her job as governor. We know she’s crazy and not real bright, but even she’s not dumb enough or crazy enough to expect anyone to buy into the idea that photoshops of Trigg in his mother’s arms as BatBoy were causing material damage to Alaska or Alaskans. That was just pure Palin deflectionism.

There was also a strong thread of martyrdom running through the whole thing; numerous times she represented what she was doing as a personal sacrifice for the state, the people of the state, the “team”, etc.

All in all, it looked to me like she was positioning and crafting pre-emptive excuses for what we’re all about to find out about. We’ve seen enough of her to recognize when she’s lying, being evasive, or avoiding telling the whole truth, and there was nothing in that rambling incoherence that smelled like the whole truth. The glimpses we did get of some semblance of truth were pretty much all focused on her statements on the media and the political climate, where she reflected her anger about not being above reproach or ridicule – that was honest. There was one passage in particular – and sorry I can’t be arsed with watching that train wreck again to point you to the time marker – which sounded like nothing so much as “and I would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn’t for you meddling kids!” that used to end every episode of Scooby-Doo.

I know with her it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that it’s entirely possible that she’s delusional enough to think this move will catapult her to national office, that quitting is something she’s done before and so not out of character, that other career opportunities beckon…but look at the timing. A hastily made announcement at the beginning of a long holiday weekend. Word from insiders that as recently as a few days ago she had no intention of stepping down. Todd takes a few days off from the few weeks of fishing season to come home for this announcement.

If there was any kind of a plan behind this, it wouldn’t have been done this way. This was a reaction to something. We’ll find out what it was within a few weeks.

Then she started her beauty queen vamping and everyone knew instantly who she was. We’ve all had the experience of someone just like her. It isn’t a good thing.

I am hoping for a scandal, but I am expecting her to go to FOX. Either way, I do not believe the 2012 hype. She was already lacking experience. Ripping a page out of the Ross Perot playbook isn’t going to bolster her credibility, and even most wingnuts seem to understand this is the end of the line for her politically.

This whole circus is awesome. Either some scandal’s about to break (good for us as it taints the GOP by association and keeps them mired down for months) and/or she’s a crazy nut-bag who believes she can run from president after dragging down McCain, lying a bunch, bitching and moaning, and then quitting her one actual job.

Good point. She may just want to be a Newt-like national figure, getting six-figure fees for spouting nonsense, and getting invited on national TV because she “moves news”.

We should not, in any way, be afraid of her. Yes, a segment of the population is very, very, VERY excited by her. But that segment is, at most, 30% of the population. The other 70% hates her, and within that, 30% or so are independents who get driven to oppose her (witness what happened during the McCain/Obama campaign, or what’s happening in AK now with her own legislature).

So in politics, it’s not about getting 100% of the votes, just a majority. You could do a lot worse than having to “run against” a party that simultaneously excites 30% while agitating and turning off the other 70%.

I say scandal. Palin is one of the last polished professionals to ever run for high office, but nobody does this unless they’re in a world of trouble. We just don’t know what it is yet. Could be something like this though:

The suddenness of her announcement raises the question about whether Palin resigned to avert a major scandal. One logical place to start looking is the affair that has Alaska political circles buzzing: an alleged scandal centered around a building contractor, Spenard Building Supplies, with close ties to Palin and her husband, Todd.

    Palin. There’s no there, there.

The woman is an incompetent ass with, at best, average intelligence and demonstrably below average knowledge.

She rose to national prominence through no skills or effort on her own. She was plucked from obscurity by a presidential campaign that couldn’t get its act together.

During the campaign she had to be protected from the media.

    Her communication skills suck.

    One could continue.

As she was, she is, and so she shall be.

Her incoherent drivel in lieu of a political speech should not surprise anyone paying attention during the presidential campaign. Her flame-out shouldn’t surprise anyone either. ‘Twas in the cards. That it only took eleven months is, I concede, a bit of a surprise.

Why she did it, assuming (BIG assumption) it was a rational decision … we’ll find out.

    Maybe.

    Eventually.

What we can say is her attraction to her “base” — those mesmerized by the philosophical and intellectual cut and thrust found in reruns of Hee-Haw — will remain. While not enough for a national political career their numbers do allow a sufficient market for Fox News or, perhaps, a national radio call-in show. In those venues the inability to think, the breathless pronouncements of the inane, and a narrative of emotive hogswallow are positives, necessary. In that world a Federal indictment for embezzlement — or whatever — is solid proof™ of the deep fear Palin inspires in Democrats, LIEbruls, ACORN, The Kenyan Terrorist©, etc. etc. etc.

With a book deal (pity the poor ghost writer!) comes a publicity tour and a natural step into some kind of media gig where she shall sit, for decades, like leprosy on the body Politic.

One thing that says to me – in addition to all the other evidence – that this isn’t a step toward 2012 is the fact that those most likely to be advising her about such a step were taken completely by surprise.

    For instance:

It’s really not that complicated. She wants to run in 2012 and she needs to learn about and learn how to talk about national issues. She cannot accomplish that as governor of Alaska (its closer to Russia for god’s sake). She also needs to make money.

She will turn up in a few weeks as the host of some Fox News channel. They pay her 2 million+ a year. The whole family will move to DC where she can circulate in DC conservative circles. Kristol will be talking in her ear the whole time. Todd will be miserable.

I think John may have spoken too soon in the other thread; perhaps conservative reaction will not be that disappointing after all! Exhibit 1: Margaret Thatcher comparison; Exhibit 2: Sarah’s just being Sarah!:

    Victor Davis Hanson

She’s not looking at 2012; but in eight years by 2016 she will be far more savvy, still young, and far more experienced. It matters not all that the Left writes her off as daffy, since they were going to do that whatever she did; the key is whether she convinces conservatives in eight year of travel and reflection that she’s a charismatic Margaret Thatcher type heavyweight.

    K-Lo

Rather than just be a celebrity, this could be a real opportunity for her to show us her stuff — what’s important to her, what she wants people to know about her, why we should pay attention to her, why we should consider her for the highest office in the land (after already gone with the cool dude with little national electoral experience — though in his case it was little experience, period). It really is more complicated than that. If her resignation was in fact planned by her with no outside pressures or impetus, why did her speech sound like it had been written (I use that word loosely)five minutes before she gave it? And why did she sound like she had just snorted six vials of crack before giving it? Any theory of why she resigned needs to explain not just the reason for her resignation but the beyond-the-pale insanity and incoherence of the manner in which she did it. And saying, “Well, it’s just Sarah Palin,” doesn’t cut it either, as this is crazy even for her.

  146. 146.

    Brachiator

    July 4, 2009 at 2:17 pm

Her logic is just baffling- she is not goin g to run again, and that makes her a lame duck, so therefore she is just going to quit a year and a half early so she does not succumb to the same old politics as usual? So is she opposed to anyone ever running for a second term?

She’s a new kind of supermavericky Maverick. She’s going to show us how the nation should be governed by, you know, not actually governing.

It’s totally absurd, but Palin has managed to benefit from the news cycle and from the general incompetence of the media.

The PBS NewsHour with Jim Lehrer could only provide perfunctory coverage. They had a report from a local anchor who had talked to some of Palin’s friends (who didn’t know what was going on), but soon lamely responded to chief correspondent Judy Woodruff’s direct questions with “Well, I think …”

It made me wish to God that an anchor would have the gonads to tell an on-scene reporter, “You’re wasting our time because you are either unprepared or haven’t done any actual reporting, so we’re going to switch away.”

Later, the official pundits were as confused as anyone else about Palin, but generally felt her resignation was a bad decision.

But I note that regular News Hour pundit David Brooks was off for the holidays, and later it appeared that the PBS show Washington Week had been taped before Palin’s resignation, since they did not mention it at all.

And of course, Palin has escaped the Wrath of Letterman and being mocked on shows like public radio’s Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me, since all the comedians are on vacation.

This has largely left 2nd tier pundits like VD Hanson free rein to bloviate over La Sarah’s Swan Song. And the results have been suitably pathetic.

JenJen – RE: K-Lo — Rather than just be a celebrity, this could be a real opportunity for her to show us her stuff — what’s important to her, what she wants people to know about her, why we should pay attention to her, why we should consider her for the highest office in the land (after already gone with the cool dude with little national electoral experience — though in his case it was little experience, period)

So let’s see. Palin is going to counter Obama’s supposed lack of experience by giving up being a working governor — one of the traditional, old fashioned ways of demonstrating competence — and instead going Galt and attempting to dazzle the nation with her sparkling personality.

Another perspective, from a commenter at Firedoglake:

Clearly, McCain and the GOP leadership knew that the FBI vetting process revealed fatal flaws in Todd’s past, which, if made public, would disqualify the VP candidate McCain had hastily selected and announced. McCain found himself caught between the devil and the deep blue sea, as admitting a hasty selection without prior vetting would have been the kiss of death for his campaign.

The McCain camp learned that she was, in affect, married to a crook, and that potentially, he was a “Domestic Terrorist” in the eyes of the new laws that the GOP pushed for. They are obviously concerned that McCain personally, their campaign, and by extension, the GOP political machinery, will be included in an indictment alleging a conspiracy to obstruct justice. THAT explains why they went to such lengths to release e-mails of private conversations wherein they were advising Palin that they would not fabricate a cover story for Todd. They were saying: “Look, we’ve got it covered (obstruction of justice), let it die and the press will let it go.”

    Here’s my take:

Newsom has been a pretty awful Mayor. I used to intern in communications office in 2004– the year Newsom decided to allow gay marriages. While he’s absolutely beautiful and well-spoken, the dude is a total press whore. And while that may be a good thing because he has the ability to bring visibility to progressive causes, Newsom has a tendency to celebrate non-victories for the sake of getting himself in front of the camera. So nothing gets done and he gets all the credit.

I hate how he tries to portray himself as an environmentalist but chose to slash the budget of public transportation in order to give his environmental policy advisors high salaries (over $175k each). It makes him seem like a used car salesman, which people accuse him of.

San Francisco has a $570 million deficit, and Mayor Newsom has been MIA. Local papers have taken to calling him “Waldo” because he’s been too busy campaigning for Governor instead of dealing with the budget problems.

That being said, Newsom would have had my vote for sure if Sacramento wasn’t facing budget problems. At this point, I don’t know how he’d handle a $26 billion deficit when he can barely muster the energy to go to work for a $576 million dollar deficit in SF. That’s the only deal breaker for me. I’d happily vote for him over any Republican because CA Republicans are crazzzzy. But I don’t know about voting for him in the primary.

And in this era of Twitter and iTunes and Youtube, I would like to see SNL do a quickie News Update special, paying Tina Fey any amount of money necessary to do her take on Palin.

    @grumpy realist:

Since I keep hearing around the net that Palin has “lost a great deal of weight” recently, I’m wondering whether this impromptu resignation might not be explained by a medical problem—something like a diagnosis of really bad cancer.

I could be wrong, but I just think the whole tone of the thing would have been different. Same goes for any personal reason.

    @Brachiator:

I’m pleased to find that I wasn’t the only one dissatisfied with the shallow non-information in the local reporter segment on Palin. It was a total waste of time.

And the local paper isn’t much better.

On the other hand, everyone was caught flat-footed.

    @Zuzu’s Petals:
To say the least. Palin would have organized a gigantic pity party in the largest venue in Alaska if she was resigning because of illness or some other personal reason. Because it is really all about her.

If Palin was pushed out or there is such a big scandal growing, wouldn’t there be at least a hint of it in the MSM? I’m watching the Situation Room* & no one is saying hint one about this scandal. If there was some big scandal about to drop, someone other than one or two Alaska bloggers would be on this.

    * I don’t usually watch anything on CNN… I swear…

Ya know, Palin also benefits in that MTP isn’t showing tomorrow so they can show Wimbledon. It’s not just the comedians.

    So we’re back to:

    1) there is a reason that makes sense (scandal, illness), or
    2) there is no reason that makes sense. (Palin just loses it, stomps off stage whining “you won’t have me to kick around anymore”.)

Palin’s supporters will support her no matter what, but I think the other 80% of the country is probably continuing with the WTF?

In fact, by not coming out with a good explanation (no matter how brilliant her devotees think her “speech” was), Palin is just focusing the attention of people on her trying to figure out what the logic is.

And if she really did pull a Tricky Dick, I think she’s just made herself radioactive with the Republican party leaders. Even Steele understands that you can’t win a national election getting only 20% of the votes.

Palin’s resignation makes perfect sense. Ever the crudest kind of crass opportunist, the cheerleader decided she could make more quick cash by gibbering her drivel in front of the far-right wackos now in control of the Republican Party (Bill Kristol, Charles Krauthammer, et al.) who were willing to pay $1000 a plate than she could score as governor.

If Palin thought she could make the most cash and get the most publicity quick by barbecuing one of her children, she’d be stocking up on barbecue sauce and lighter fluid. Palin is that most dangerous combination: an ignorant kook who cares about nothing but hard cash and quick fame. She’s the Mark David Chapman of 21st century politics.

Probably a bit of truth in much of the speculation. So she’s hitting the Wingnut Welfare Tour to foot her pending legal bills (from those ethics complaints that, you know, were already thrown out).

    As for this:

I will support others who seek to serve, in or out of office, for the right reasons, and I don’t care what party they’re in or no party at all. Inside Alaska – or Outside Alaska. But I won’t do it from the Governor’s desk.

It just means that when Palin hears someone as slug-nutty as herself on TV, she’ll think, “yes, I support this person.” Then she’ll resume doing what ever she was doing at the time, like swinging with Todd and the Van Susterens.**

** I know, icky image there. I hope my nightmares cease soon.

    “Who is Sarah Galt?”

Palin is “going Galt” for now, to deprive the criminals in power of some of the very life-force which they require to operate; which they so rapaciously usurp and abuse; which they hold in such contempt and attack even as they crave and covet it for their own corrupt engines and purposes…she is going Galt in order that, eventually, the nation desperately cries out for her influence and active return to the fore, by that time as an electorate and apparatus that much more willing to cooperate and heed her ideas and proscriptions.

Ayn Rand foresaw all of this.
