Good day- long walk on the trails, then my brother and I went home for a picnic lunch with mom and dad (ribs, salmon salad, potato salad, beans, pasta salad, and a blackberry lemon turnover), then took Lily and the JRT’s to the park. They had a good old time, and this is my favorite picture:

Here are two quick vids- the first is Guesly getting gang tackled by Lily and Ginny every time he caught the ball and tried to bring it back to us. The other two couldn’t care about the ball, just want to jump Guesly:

After about a half hour, they were all kind of pooped, and Lily rolled in the grass for a bit:

Life is good. I tried to take Lily for a walk tonight after we got home, got about a mile in and she turned around and started walking back to the car. I can take a hint- she is now snoring on the couch.

Don’t forget a Capitol Fourth on PBS at 8 pm.

I second DimCP. It’s always great to see a rescued dog having such a great time. She seems like a real treasure. Great to see it.

Much smaller than I though. I kind of imagined her as about mid-thigh high.

She comes up to a little around my knee. I’d have to wake her up to measure her, and I’m not going to do that. She had a full day and I just fed her, and she is sacked out on her doggy bed on my bed, with her head on my pillow. She knows she can get away with it.

One of the great ironies of Palin’s hasty announcement, and obvious attmenpt to bury the news on a long weekend, is that she chose to do it on the same weekend as the Great Tea Party Revolution Weekend. As Dave Weigel points out the parties aren’t getting quite the attention the first round got with all the media. Now they can’t get no repsect on memeorandum.com either. Sad. Sad. Sad. Reynolds is posting pictures if anyone is curious. Notice anything missing in those pictures if you happen to check them out? (I can’t bring myself to link to them. You can find the link at memeorandum)

    America’s Batshit Diva

One day after announcing that she’s resigning, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin blasted the media for their coverage of her surprise move and asserted that she’s held to a higher standard by reporters. Palin, who has not had a public schedule for the July 4th holiday, posted a message on her Facebook page just before 5 O’clock Eastern describing news accounts of her announcement yesterday as “predictable, ironic, and as always, detached from the lives of ordinary Americans who are sick of the ‘politics of personal destruction.’” “How sad that Washington and the media will never understand; it’s about country,” Palin wrote. “And though it’s honorable for countless others to leave their positions for a higher calling and without finishing a term, of course we know by now, for some reason a different standard applies for the decisions I make.” But asked exactly what stories the governor was criticizing, Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton said Palin wasn’t referring to any specific news or TV account but rather the speculation and questions about what may have been her motivation for resigning. As for the “higher calling” Palin referred to, Stapleton said the governor was just generally referring to what she sees as a move up in public life.

Apparently Palin’s lawyer is making noises about suing for defamation:

The abruptness of her announcement and the mystery surrounding her plans has fed widespread speculation. But Palin attorney Thomas Van Flein on Saturday warned legal action may be taken against bloggers and publications that reprint what he calls fraudulent claims.

“To the extent several websites, most notably liberal Alaska blogger Shannyn Moore, are now claiming as ‘fact’ that Governor Palin resigned because she is ‘under federal investigation’ for embezzlement or other criminal wrongdoing, we will be exploring legal options this week to address such defamation,” Van Flein said in a statement. “This is to provide notice to Ms. Moore, and those who re-publish the defamation, such as Huffington Post, MSNBC, the New York Times and The Washington Post, that the Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law.”

I opted for Casino Royale on USA. Missed it in the theater, missed it everywhere else, and I’ve been wanting to see it. Yes, I know USA stretches it out to three hours with commercials, but even as I write this I am using the cosmic power of the DVR to build up a buffer so I can zoom through it with minimal interruption. Already watched the opening sequence, and that was pretty damn good.

Maybe Burn After Reading later on HBO.

Oh, and I had to work all day, so I’m torn between hot dogs and pizza for dinner. Definitely some sort of all-American junk food. And adult beverages. Speaking of which, must get one now.

It was the fucking liberal media that made this dimwit asshole a superstar in the first place. After Palin’s convention speech, I flipped back and forth on my tv remote trying to find someone who was critical of her remarks. It was impossible. Almost in unison, virtually every pundit I saw proclaimed a star was born and that she had hit a home run. As best as I can recall, Olbermann and Madow expressed fairly mild criticism of some parts of the speech but gave her very high marks for style and poise.

Palin is not the rootin tootin, field dress first ask questions later person her handlers tried to invent. She is a whiny, sniveling, cowardly dumbass who throws a tantrum anytime the MSM tries to ask her legitimate questions.

It must be an exhausting job to be Palin’s lawyer. She probably wants to sue new perceived enemies every single day for made-up slights and insults. And with her, the fact that what she’s saying is made up, AND doesn’t amount to a cause of action, would not matter to her at all.

If I was that unlucky soul, I’d pull a Toby from the Office. Much the way he told Dwight he sent every employee complaint about Jim to the central office, I’d tell Palin I was gonna file the lawsuit first thing in the morning and feel secure that she’d forget all about it by then and be on to her next lawsuit demand, etc.

Just got past Daniel Craig emerging from the ocean in the retro ’60s swimming trunks. Nice. Sean Connery looked very good in those too.

As I have watched the (endless) Bond movie reruns on USA, Spike, etc., over the last couple of years, I have really come to appreciate From Russia with Love and especially Dr. No, which is a tight little gem that looks like it cost about $100,000. Talk about ROI.

Back to the movie. Bond is rolling on the floor with the wife of the bad dude whose car he just won in a poker game.

Ol’ Cap’n Wingnut actually called Palin out on her stunt:

There’s really no excuse, and what Rich Lowry also calls her “terrible,” “rambling,” and “not at all persuasive” statement showed that. Unless there was a serious illness or a serious scandal, the resignation on the grounds Palin gave is simply incomprehensible. She has destroyed her own credibiity in a single day.

I can’t believe Obama wasted his time trying to make nice with this cocksucker. First he throws a dinner in honor of this prick the night before inauguration day. Then he appoints Janet Napolitano, the only democrat with any shot of beating McCain, to be DHS secy.

At times like this, Obama drives me nuts. I’d like to see him drop the professorial demeanor for a few minutes, invite McCain into the Oval Office and say “John, You Need to Shut the Fuck Up About Iran Already, Capice, Paisan?”

Coming in a little late to say howdy and check in…

I spent the 4th the same way I spent the 3rd: blazing through Medical Assistant coursework. I’m taking 12 credits in 8 weeks because a) I’m nuts; and b) I’d like to finish this program in 4 quarters rather than 5. I finished the first module about an hour ago, took a test and emailed the exercises to the instructor. Thank god this quarter will be all on-line and I can really get it all done at my own pace, at any and all hours.

Feeling pretty much brain drained, so it was a total delight to see the goggie vids. I think I’d love to trade places with Lily and roll around in the grass a bit myself :)

I also cackled and hooted at Lily telling John the walk was over, time to head home, kthx. In John Cole’s house, it’s the animals who wear the pants :D

I am now watching A Capital 4th, and really enjoying whoever that singer taking off on Frankie Vallee and …. I don’t know who originally did “Oh What a Night,” but them, too. I tuned in late, but so long as I still get to watch the fireworks, I’m happy.

I’m confident that in the near future Bailin’ Palin will be honing her formidable bomb throwing skills for any far right wing cause or candidate that will write her a check and pay for airfare to the lower 48. Hey, she’s got a ton of legal debt to pay off, right?

She’s finished as an electable political entity, so expect her to do what she does best: Agitate the 25 or so percent of the country that is the politically and intellectually clueless republican “base”. Which as you all know, is the same bag full of hammers stupid enough to believe you can govern a country as complex as the 21st century United States with a failed ideology which never worked for anybody other than the richest 5% to begin with while leaving the rest of us circling the drain. Moar, plz.

She’ll be giving Rush a lap dance within a week or so after she vacates the AK State House, speaking of which, I’m sure we have much to look forward to once the holiday weekend is over. He must be out. of. his. mind. Then there’s Levi Johnson’s book coming out. Popcorn futures are looking good.
