I was mildly upset yesterday, when surfing my regular right-wing websites, no one had bothered to insert the name Obama in front of every grievance listed in the Declaration of Independence:
HeObama has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.
HeObama has plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.
HeObama is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation, and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & Perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.
I was absolutely convinced this would be a lock, and I had my money on someone from the American Thinker. Maybe next year! Probably demoralized that Fox News lost interest in the tea party movement and Sarah Palin has decided to cut and run.
And then it occurred to me- who will be the first to compare Sarah Palin to the Iranian protestors? I’m going to go big media with this one, and guess Limbaugh.
erlking
It’s gotta be Jonah–wildly inaccurate analogies and poorly understood social movements are his stock-in-trade.
Martin
You’re going with Iranians? The GOP compared being in the minority in Congress with the Iranians – so they’ve already crossed that threshold. I’ll go one bigger and ask who’ll be the first to suggest that Dear Sarah has died for our political sins and will be politically resurrected as the daughter of Reagan and shall walk the nation again (in the fuck-me boots, no less).
I too will go with Rush.
Bill E Pilgrim
I was more surprised that no one called Palin’s statement her Declaration of Independence. No one I know of anyway.
One more day and a little imagination and she’d have had it.
Really that’s the most interesting part of this, there was absolutely nothing planned or orchestrated about it, I mean if anyone had had time to see that insane letter she put out with the EMPHASES in all CAPS, it never would have gone out that way.
There’s something about this that doesn’t add up. Yet.
ZIRGAR
Compare her to Iranian protesters? Your sights are set too low for the wingnuts. They’re gonna compare her to the crucified Christ!
Cat Lady
It all depends on what’s coming down the pike. Would getting indicted for extorting a free house in a sleazy quid pro quo work as well as blaming Letterman? Can they blame Obama and Letterman for forcing her to take a free house? Like the protesters were forced to accept Ahmadinejad?
If so, I’m beginning to think that Palin’s real reason for resigning will provide us with the essence of distilled wingnut – the group that can be marked with a “W” and launched to the
Wingularity.
The Grand Panjandrum
Ensign. Sanford. Tea Party disillusionment. Palin. Yeah its been a rough few weeks for the GOP. A recent comment here went something like: “The GOP announeced it’s resignation as a political party to spend more time with its scandals.” Kudos to that commenter and I will be reusing that little gem.
With The Palin’s now infamous word salad responses to questions she doesn’t understand and her ability to go on longer than almost anyone on the planet–including most of the US Senate–and still say nothing, this comment in a TNR thread back in January may be the most astute observation about The Palin I’ve read anywhere:
That wins the internets for commenting on poltical blogs this year.
gnomedad
I’ve been Googling for “Palin hounded from office”, but nothing much yet.

John Swift, call your office.
Comrade Stuck
Limabaugh has been the go to guy lately for connecting dots with crazy glue. But he is deep into the Obama Mystique of Magic Negro Mayhem. The Iranians are last weeks wingnut celeb cause, now that there is little blood on the street to tweet.
I’m guessing something not used yet. Maybe Sarah will put herself under house arrest like Burma’s Aung San Suu Kyi to protest Obama’s brutal Junta. then Beck could sneak in to her compound for an interview triggering the arrest and trial of both by Generalisimo Soetero. It could be repeated in wingnut street theater across the nation.
ricky
You can bet they won’t salute her for her partial term abortion of the Governorship, nor applaud her decision to act before the third trimester.
Tim (The Oher One)
You really have to go over to Free Republic to get the full crunchiness of insanity. Some guy’s made this giant Palin campaign sign with a really mad bear on it that would scare the crap out of Colbert.
LD50
I didn’t hear, were there any Tea Parties yesterday, or were the wingers too demoralized?
Dan
It’ll be interesting, now that she has no power over people (like police chiefs and librarians), to hear what people that worked for her will say in the days to come.
r€nato
@LD50:
I was just wondering that too… either the Liberal Media Conspiracy™ suppressed all news about it, or it was a huge fizzle… down the memory hole!
Josh Huaco
@Cat Lady:
As I more or less said in an earlier thread, Sarah is the penultimate modern Republican: Nixon’s resentments plus Reagan’s venality plus Dubya’s belligerent ignorance, with a big red cherry of sexual hypocrisy on top.
@LD50: The Fort Worth station had a story about a bunch of DFW tea baggers trying to get a rally going yesterday, but not many showed up. I guess they didn’t want to drive on socialized roads with their socialized police in order to rally at socialized parks.
Comrade Stuck
@LD50:
They had em but hardly anyone showed up. Likely because GOP leaders finally figured out the idea was wacky and a loser and didn’t show up. Short attention span is always a bug-a-boo for the desperate.
Comrade Jake
Well, this recent post from NoQuarter has its share of Palin wingnuttery. The title alone is a friggin beaut.
I can’t decide if they meant to misspell “journalists” or not.

He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
– Article II, Section 1, paragraph 5
He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
– Sheriff Arpaio, Immigration, Governors Sanford, Perry
He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their Public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance.– Precisely
He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:

For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:– See California bailout, forthcoming
For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies– Falsified statistics re: Mexican guns, United Nations
For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:– Refusal to enforce immigration law
For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.

“I didn’t hear, were there any Tea Parties yesterday”
Heck, there were two here in the once and future capital of the Republic of Texas. The first featured Joe the War Corresplumber. The other had Sen. John Cornyn. He was booed.

Don’t make me think about the ultimate modern Republican. I’ve had enough, thanks.

I don’t normally anticipate the Rush Limbaugh show. In fact, I typically try to ignore it these days. But I have to say, I am looking forward to it tomorrow morning. I really, really am. It’s going to be epic (i just don’t know what kind of epic, yet)
Nylund
I thought the wingnuts were promising that there were going to be the biggest tea parties evah this 4th of July. Didn’t hear one thing about any. Did they happen and nobody cared? or did they not happen at all?
Either way, I think this means that the Tea Party movement will prove about as effective of the “Gathering of Eagles” did, (or is that really just the same group, just re-branded?).
Oh well, at least we still have the “Red State Army Gathering” to poke fun of for a while. Are they still using the Strike Force moniker? or was that ridiculed out of existence too?

It’s hard out there for a Simp.
I’m gonna go with either Beck or Hannity on the bet.

@Brick Oven Bill:
There are Indian savages in Chicago and Detroit?
Oh, you were just being hideously racist.
Okay, just clearing that up. Carry on.
NB: Funny, it occurred to me reading the Declaration earlier how much it sounds like our rants against another more recent George. Sending troops afar to wage illegal war and etc etc.

I’m going to dust off an oldie but goodie and note that Sarah Palin has decided to…cut and run.
J.D. Rhoades
Some teabaggers marched in the 4th parade in my small Southern town, complete with teabag hats and anti-Obama signs.
One had a sign that said “Enforce Term Limits, Send Navy SEALS to DC”. I’m not sure if they were calling on the SEALS to stage a coup. Another sign said ‘SARAH PALIN=GREAT AMERICAN. ” My son was going to flip them off, but he decided that since there were children marching with them, that would be inappropriate. He’s a good kid.
In contrast to the teabaggers, the local Democratic party marched under flags and pro-American slogans. Because we’re better Americans than the teabaggers, doncha know.

@Brick Oven Bill:
Err, what? (Looks around.) I can see the ruins of the Detroit destroyed by Republican economic policy, but no Injuns attacking in my neck of the woods……
But we do get Michael Savage on the radio. Is he the merciless savage of whom you speak?

Oh wait, that part didn’t make the final cut, never mind…
Bill E Pilgrim
@Jorge:
As funny as that is, it’s close to something like blasphemy to equate Callas and Sarah Baraccuda. I mean there’s a good example of the devaluing of a word, diva used to mean something. Haughty, difficult, melodramatic, but also deep, mysterious, interesting, and ridiculously talented. And accomplished. No one would try to be a diva after one season, especially if she left in the middle of it.
Using it for Sarah is almost like using it for Nixon. Cheap political hack is closer.
J.D. Rhoades
I love this part:
Pretty rich coming from the blog where people posted pictures of Michelle Obama photoshopped to look like Zira from Planet of the Apes.
Oh, and Whitey Tape. Also.
A Mom Anon
@J.D. Rhoades:
The Tea Party in Atlanta was pretty sad,if the AJC pics are any indication. It looks like maybe 30 people showed up. Which is sad considering the Peachtree Road Race was yesterday as well as the whole fireworks thing. Insurance commish John Oxendine(who’s running for gov)showed up to stand on their “Soap Box” and gave a little speech for the assembled masses.
The one in Marietta GA was better(if by better you mean more people were there),around 100-200 people were there,but the local paper for Marietta had no pics up on it’s website as of this morning. I don’t think they marched in the parade.
MikeJ
Not Palin, but they did compare the Franken/Coleman case to Iran.
JK
Sean Hannity
used to be disgusted
My read is that the wingers are pretty demoralized right now. Over at Redstate, anyhow, they’re mostly fighting with each other over Palin’s legacy. Not a lot being said about tea parties.
Brick Oven Bill
Janet from DHS had better check out Chicago. This is Obama’s neighborhood. He didn’t do a very good job apparently. Somebody needs to re-organize this community.
Blood Shortage in Chicago (single hospital):
Dr. Dennis says the reason for the shortage is the high numbers of victims of shootings and other violent crimes who come to Stroger Hospital for life-saving treatment.
“We see probably an average of between 10 and 15 people who get shot or stabbed every night,” Dr. Dennis said.
More datapoints:
In the last two weeks alone, at least 54 shootings in the Chicago area have left 15 people dead. In one horrific weekend, at least nine people were killed in 36 separate attacks.
J.D. Rhoades
@Brick Oven Bill:
Your point being? Obama’s failed because Chicago has crime? I mean, this is pretty fucking stupid even for you.
Docrailgun
BOB –
You mean… there’s *gasp* CRIME in big cities? Stop the presses!
This is Obama’s fault how, exactly? After all, only the wingnuts think he’s (anti)Christ.
Sorry, I didn’t mean to try to interject some reality into your ranting. Please, proceed.

Sarah Palin is Mussolini; she accomplished so much, yet was tragically pulled from power before she complete her mission.
@Josh Huaco: Penultimate Republican. Genius! But before you print out two copies and mail one to yourself and the other to the copyright office, penultimate means “second to last.” Not sure if that’s what you mean.
Brick Oven Bill
My point being?
J.D. Rhodes; I was called a name for comparing one of Jefferson’s petitions for regress with a modern equivalent, and simply defended my reasoning, which is pretty solid, in my opinion. A more exact modern equivalent is the Section 8 housing program which has introduced gangs, drugs, and crime to my old Middle School.
The King George royalty equivalent is the strict segregation of the Washington DC private schools of the political class by the Democratic leadership, using the mechanism of eliminating school vouchers. There should be a single standard, as all men are created equal.
LD50
Perhaps BOB’s larger point is that in the mythical, pure wingnut paradise he envisions, there would be no crime, so this proves that liberals are bad and that Obama was born in Jakarta.
Is that it?
inkadu
@Docrailgun: I think Bob’s point is that Obama is a vampire, and he sired a lot of vampires in Chicago before he left, thus the shortage of blood.
Did you notice that his victory speech was at night? And his weekly addresses are all indoors. Hm.
Josh Huaco
@inkadu:
(whoops) I meant to say…paramount…yeah, that’s it. Seriously though, thanks for the catch.
West of the Cascades
@Brick Oven Bill: Spectacular Freudian slop: “petitions for regress.” That phrase perfectly sums up the substance of the Teabag Movement.
The modern poseurs with pretenses to the Jeffersonian tradition couldn’t draft an original thought if they were aided by 100 monkeys with 100 quill pens and 100 sheets of parchment – witness the witless Georgia State Senate “nullification” resolution (http://www.legis.ga.gov/legis/2009_10/fulltext/sr632.htm) that was a barely edited (yet uncredited) plagiarism of Jefferson’s Resolutions Related to the Alien and Sedition Acts.
inkadu
@Josh Huaco: “Paragon” would also work. As would “Republican Masturbatory Frankenstein Fantasy.”
JD Rhoades
You were called a name because it fits. And your reasoning is shite, as our British cousins say.
Martin
Actually, I think BOBs larger point is that Chicago has more black people than, say, Alaska, which when tied to the crime data shows that black people are inferior, and therefore so must be Obama.
He’s been banned here how many times for saying as much and we aren’t to assume that he’s just heading that way again, but has since learned where the boundary is?
Kirk Spencer
BoB,
I understand your anger at the shootings – children (even 17 and 18 year olds) should be safe. But what’s your fixation on chicago? The rate in Detroit is worse. New Orleans is in the same ballpark. LA and Boston are also competitive (what a ghastly competition).
Does it give you solace to complain about this problem in conjunction with the president who came from there? Or is it merely that while it’s a problem in so many areas, here is one you can hang around the neck of someone you despise?
Either way, it’s becoming childish. It’s a problem in many places, Bill, and the particular manner in which you focus attention leaves us believing it may not really be the children that matter to you – or at least, they’re not the important part of this.
mahesh
My bet is on ‘Boss’ Limbaugh pointing fingers at Obama for causing ‘Barracuda’ to cut & run, not to mention Obama’s 3 point shoot…..
ummmmm must check if Friday was a full moon day..??
grumpy realist
And lots of us in Chicago have been trying to figure out what to do as well. Problem is, we’re dealing with a pretty dysfunctional set of young adults who are very nihilistic about their lives anyway. If you expect you’re going to die in a gang war, chances are….you’ll die in a gang war. Not to mention all the surrounding innocents who get shot because none of the gun-wielding punks care.
The only way I can see possibly fixing this is cracking down with martial law, searches of anyone going in and out of the area, tons of economic development to rip out the drug trade, and a platoon of therapists.
bago
You know, I’m fairly certain that the real BOB got banned and this new BOB is a sublime snarker. This is very precious material.

Hey, the first thing I thought of when I read those ‘plaints you mentioned, was that it sounded exactly like what the US under Bush did to Iraq.

@gnomedad: “Sic Semper Tyrannis,” in addition to being the words Booth is said to have shouted when shooting Lincoln (and the motto of the Commonwealth of Virginia), is also the charming saying pictured on the shirt worn by Timothy McVeigh when he was picked up and booked for the Oklahoma City bombing. Nice choice.
