I saw this this morning and have been reading about this Keiser guy. Apparently he’s been around for a while, and one of the coolest things he’s done is found a hedge fund called “Karmabanque”, which bets against unethical corporations like McDonalds and Coca Cola, funnels its profits into activism against said corporations, then bets against them again. Crazy and awesome.

When I read about the front running software, that was later stolen from Goldman Sachs and sold, it reminded me of the “Sting”, where Paul Newman/Robert Redford knew the results of the horse race just before Robert Shaw did and used that moment to swindle Robert Shaw out of his money.
How is that different from what Goldman Sachs was/is doing? I don’t know if the Hague is the correct venue, but if they really were making a hundred million a day from front running, shouldn’t someone be going to jail???
“Socially responsible” means different things to different folks (screening for labor practices, environmental impact, weapons manufacturers, accountability to shareholders, etc.), but here’s once resource: Social Investment Forum.

Well, that’s something you don’t see every day. Honest, informed anger and cold-blooded expert opinion meeting on TV to give viewers a better picture of what is actually going on and what can realistically be done about it.
Which is why you’ll never see the like on a ‘serious’ news channel in America or Britain. That kind of thing is just too dangerous to be allowed in a free society.
26.

The other thing that should give the Shrill Guy some cred is that he doesn’t badmouth capitalism, but actually wants GS held to the *standards* (such as they are) of capitalism.

This belongs in OBAMA pitch thread, but in January of this year, Bush said this to People magazine. It really deserves a post on its own.
<blockquote cite=”
Which moments from the last eight years do you revisit most often?
THE PRESIDENT: I definitely think about the families I’ve met of the fallen soldiers—about the compassion, love and determination of the families, to make sure that the Commander-in-Chief hears their stories and knows their pride.
I think about throwing out that pitch at the World Series on [Oct. 30] 2001. My heart was racing when I got to the mound. Didn’t want to bounce it. Didn’t want to let the fans down. My heart was pumping so hard, I wasn’t sure if I could lift my arm. I never felt that anxious any other time during my presidency, curiously enough. “>
Not 9/11? Not when you gave the orders to invade? Not when you were told they were no WMD? Not when you were told, Iraq was breaking apart? Of course, Bush is probably just lying. Or a psychopath.

noting the remembrance of idiot son’s baseball outing, brought to mind his and laura’s remembrance of their activities on 9/11 — via peggy noonan in ladies home journal. keep in mind this was dec 2001:
Ladies Home Journal:
Peggy Noonan (the interviewer): You were separated on September 11th. What was it like when you saw each other again?
Laura Bush: Well, we just hugged. I think there was a certain amount of security in being with each other than being apart.
George W. Bush: But the day ended on a relatively humorous note. The agents said, “you’ll be sleeping downstairs. Washington’s still a dangerous place.” And I said no, I can’t sleep down there, the bed didn’t look comfortable. I was really tired, Laura was tired, we like our own bed. We like our own routine. You know, kind of a nester. I knew I had to deal with the issue the next day and provide strength and comfort to the country, and so I needed rest in order to be mentally prepared. So I told the agent we’re going upstairs, and he reluctantly said okay. Laura wears contacts, and she was sound asleep. Barney was there. And the agent comes running up and says, “We’re under attack. We need you downstairs,” and so there we go. I’m in my running shorts and my T-shirt, and I’m barefooted. Got the dog in one hand, Laura had a cat, I’m holding Laura —
Laura Bush: I don’t have my contacts in , and I’m in my fuzzy house slippers —
George W. Bush: And this guy’s out of breath, and we’re heading straight down to the basement because there’s an incoming unidentified airplane, which is coming toward the White House. Then the guy says it’s a friendly airplane. And we hustle all the way back up stairs and go to bed.
Mrs. Bush: And we just lay there thinking about the way we must have looked.
Peggy Noonan (interviewer): So the day starts in tragedy and ends in Marx Brothers.
George W. Bush: That’s right — we got a laugh out of it.

Of course, Bush is probably just lying. Or a psychopath.
Or there’s the third option, which is that he was telling the unvarnished truth and just doesn’t understand or care how petty it makes him look.
Failing to prevent the Sept 11 attacks? Blame it on the Democrats. Invading a country for no good reason? Blame it on Saddam and the weapons inspectors (and the Democrats). Failing to unearth anything that could be spun into ‘proof’ that the invasion was justified or necessary? Blame it on the CIA (and the Democrats). Failure to stop the country he’d invaded falling into chaos? Blame it on the Iraqis and the Iranians and the US military (and the Democrats).
None of that was his fault, and he had armies of willing flunkies who would tell you that all day, every day, until you got so sick and tired of hearing it that you just gave up. And anyway, it wasn’t like he was really making any of these decisions himself. You got a problem, take it up with Dick, he’s down the hall. Heh. Heh, heh,

I’m getting tired of hearing how Obama is playing some brilliant “long game” or some other bullshit with regards to Wall Street.
