This isn’t really the thread, but Karl Rove was on Fox this morning slamming Congressmen for demeaning and not listening to the astroturfers.
I think the devil sold his soul to Karl Rove.

Two minutes of CNN is just too much CNN, it seems. Has CNN always been such a festering shithole, or has it just gotten worse in the last while?
lamh31
ah…ya don’t! but we sure as hell should.
I’ve given up on cable news, is anyone reporting about this:
Violence at Tampa health care forum
Here’s a later update on the violence in Tampa from TPM:

Yes, its depressing. I don’t think CNN even thought to grade GWB on 8 years of craptacular Presnittin’. We’re doomed.

I listened to KO’s opening preview while cooking dinner in the kitchen and had a panic attack after a perfectly wonderful and content day full of Good Things. I can no longer even bear to listen to KO or Rachel, it ratchets up the stress level just that high for me, peronsally.
I think the only thing to do in these sad, dark times is to suck ‘n spit.

I’m gonna go watch this for the 3rd time in 24 hours, because it makes me laugh and it makes me happy, and because I can.

Nope! Every hundred days for the next eight years…

Yep. It sure beats working for a living.

Well, you know that blackity, black, black, black people must be reviewed every 100 days. It’s in the Constitution-or the Declaration of Independence, or something. They’re scary!
Wolf Blitzer can kiss my round, brown behind.

…only because grading him daily would be a bit TOO obvious.

I grade Wolf every day by not having voluntarily watched CNN since 1991.

Do you think people are going to sit by while this nation is turned into a socialist hell hole? Wait until August 22nd when hundreds of thousands of people will turn out to protest our socialized medical system.
shelley matheis
Being August, I’d say it’s just the silly season. Except this is CNN every month of the year.

@lamh31:
I can’t find the specific post now, but I remember David
Neiwert postulating that Republicanism wasn’t quite fascist yet, that it was more ‘proto-fascist’ because it lacked the bands of violent thugs enforcing fascist norms that was typical of Hitler’s and Mussolini’s followers.
I guess the GOP has decided to take the next step.

I am surrounded by wingnut teabaggers in my little haven of retired marines and civil servants who think every government program is communist while they are living off government retirement and health care. The irony around here is so thick you could cut it with a knife.

Rick Sanchez laid into one of the anti-health insurance reform assholes today in a segment that lasted almost four minutes. So I guess they still have some moments.

Wolf lost me a long, long time ago. It was back during the Monica Lewinski thing when he gave a great display of feigned shock at the concept of adultery. When he righteously blubbered “Adultery is a crime in the state of Maryland”, I wanted to ask him what it was like living in a convent for all those years.
JK
This is the further dumbing down of journalism. The US presidency as American Idol. It’s bad enough that CNN considers this game show mentality to be journalism. It’s more disappointing that so many people are dumb enough to participate in this stupidity.
In the late 1960’s, there was a popular poster with the caption “What if they gave a war and nobody came” http://www2.iath.virginia.edu/sixties/HTML_docs/Exhibits/Track16/nobody_came.html
With all this polling every other nanosecond, I’m thinking “What if they created a poll and everyone refused to participate” It’s time for people to stop performing like trained seals for the MSM. It’s time for people to demand that the MSM start doing real journalism and stop this infantile bullshit.
Quicksand
What I really want to know is how he has done in his third 67 days. Followed in a couple of days by how he has done in his seventh 29 days.
C’mon CNN, don’t let me down!

@Origuy:
It’s a permanent campaign. Have you ever in your life seen this much attention to poll numbers post-election?
They think he’s in there only marginally, and could be beat at any moment, like, if he loses those crucial electoral votes out of Pennsylvania?
I think it’s yet another way to question his legitimate claim on the office. I do. Every other President in my lifetime was treated as a SETTLED MATTER for at least three years once the election was over. This is appalling. What is this? Why just him?

The best way to hunt Wolf is with a helicopter and a .308 rifle with a 4X scope. I’ll admit it seems cruel and heavy handed but Wolf is old and crafty and already survived our attempts to kill him in Baghdad using the finest military equipment in the history of the world.
Better make it two helicopters.

Warren Terra
Wayyy back when, before CNN had competition and therefore had to economize quite so much on the reporting in favor or opining and get eyeballs with shouting, it was a lot better. But I’m talking about the early 90’s here, when Ted Turner still owned it and saw it as an enterprise with a mission to inform people 24/7 about what’s going on in the world. Sure, it had Larry King (and more Larry King, and still more Larry King), and it had Crossfire (albeit the milquetoast Michael Kinsley version, not the later shoutier version), but it had an awful lot of reporting – including Wolf Blitzer actually working for a living, or at least walking the halls of the Pentagon and faithfully regurgitating what he was told.
Then Fox showed everyone that a couple of camera crews and an awful lot of nonsense was much cheaper to produce and got more viewers, and CNN merrily jumped down into the ditch with them.

I seem to recall a fair bit of kerfuffle after 50 days, as it was half-way to his first hundred days (golly!). So I assume it’s geometric, and after this one they won’t opine until the first four-hundred days have elapsed.

A score card every 100 days? You bet! Scoring every 100 days on how much pain we put these irrelevant bitchy right-wingers through is a fantastic idea. In fact if they ever give the president a good grade, we’re not doing nearly enough.
Max
@Warren Terra: I agree. CNN used to be a news channel when Ted owned it. Related – Live From Baghdad is a great flick.
These days, I half expect one of the talking heads to link Obama to Vince Foster.

I can’t believe I’m watching this. It’s so fucking stupid. That’s the only response I can come up with.

CNN International still isn’t quite as bad.

@RedKitten:
It got worse a while back like 8 years ago, and continues to decline.
Fox decided to lock up the right. MSNBC decided to do the same for the left. CNN looks to have decided to lock up the lazy, the market of people who are ‘independant’ mostly because they are to fucking lazy to get ANY kind of education on an issue, not even the shitty ‘read the national review’ kind.
Small little bites of infotenment is all thier viewers want

You guys couldn’t remove Clinton with GOP majorities, and now with a massive Democratic majority you’re going to start ‘impeachment charges’?
A hint: being Black and a Democrat aren’t impeachable offenses.
Gordon, The Big Express Engine
@LD50: think he was kidding there…
Elie
Ya have to watch the close of this over the next 6 months…
Ugly but totally effective in moving us over…
We are at war… a weird war that the people for change don’t want to “win” in the dominatrix kind of way, but to make all of us AWARE, AWAKE to our reality. Vitctory (at least how I see it) is in multiple phases but the first phase is not about “winning” this debate or that, but in getting people to use their eyes, ears and what remains of their brains to appreciate REALITY.
That is happening — hence the PAIN — the screaming the gnashing of teetch, the lashing out — just like when a limb goes to sleep and wakes up, there is pain first along with unfamiliar tingling weirdness until the ability to perceive and sense normalizes…
This is a huge transformation that is really partially off the radar of the “debate” etc on health care, and energy, etc. Many have flagged it accurately, the change to a new American reality about diversity with the attendant sense of loss from the former dominant whites. But its actually even bigger than that. All paradigms have their attendant blind spots and the light on that is pretty glaring. It is (and this is my interpretation) illuminating those dark, deep corners showing the corporatists pulling strings and pushing folks around. They are becoming naked and not only is it not pretty, its scary and they are going to be mean as snakes.. or worse…
Hold onto your horses…
Just Some Fuckhead
Elie, did we catch you in the middle of a bad acid trip?
Laura W
@Gordon, The Big Express Engine: Thank you. I knew I’d seen at least one man postulate that theory recently, but I forgot who it was and I have no energy for archive diving tonight. (I did, however, mention this very manly part of the BOB theory privately to JSF. Assuming you are a man, Gordon.)
Have to run now. See something upthread about Elie acid tripping that has totally caught my attention. I hope BOB will show up soon, however, to dispel these scintillating rumors that he and JSF are somehow conjoined and entwined, in ways we might not yet even dare to imagine.
Yikes. Is it just me or is it really HOT in here now?
Elie
Well I guess I dont see it that way, Just Some —
I actually think we are in something of a bad acid trip that what I perceive as happening will hopefully address…
You are of course totally able to reject my projections as pure “acid trip” nonsense. We will instead retire to your sense of what we face — something much more predictable and banal, right?
Frank Rich talks about his perceptions of America right now and the changing perception of diversity. Check it out. Maybe its too extreme for you though
Elie
Sorry —
Hope I didn’t scare anyone off —
I do feel things are really weird but hopeful

I don’t know where Obama was the night Vince Foster was killed! Do you?!?!
I’ll bet Obama killed Foster in the conservatory with the lead pipe! In return for getting Bill to have the State Department cover up his foreign birth, so he could be president 15 years later!

I participated in the CNN online poll, gave Obama and his administration all A+ ( just for shits and giggles), gave Repubs and the media the grade of F. And to my surprise the other losers (like me) gave the Repubs and the media the grade of F as well. Heh.

@Rey:
Interesting looking at the CNN “grade” – it seems like 25-33 percent of the people in every state gave Obama an F, thus making his overall grade a C+. This is the hardcore GWB approval rating group. I didn’t know they were so evenly spread out throughout the country.
Else, I’d suspect they were freeping the poll. they wouldn’t do that with a reputable news organization like CNN, would they? /snark
Warren Terra
@Stop Medicare
Cite please?
Stop Medicare
Cite what? The health care system is breaking down because there is too much government regulation. So what is the Democrat answer? More regulation! Democrats weren’t happy enough to destroy the housing market, now they want to destroy health care too.
Ash Can
@Ash: S-M is a little on the too-dry side, I’d say, like spoof-Atanarjuat often was (although spoof-A was often entertaining and always clearly articulate, and I’ve totally stolen A’s “grenade-chucker” epithet). However, considering that Stop Medicare has that catchy S-M abbreviation and has invoked good, old-school communism, I see potential here.
Klaus
I like how StopMedicare uses the same utopian reasoning as Marxists. It’s never the state’s fall, the revolution just hasn’t been fully realized yet, comrades! Or, in his case, any failure can only mean the market isn’t free enough! Circular reasoning! Woo woo woo woo!
Bro, your party ran this country into a ditch through decades of reckless deregulation. If you want to live in an anarchy, go find yourself a cave and let the rest of us figure out this whole civil society thing.
piltdown
@Stop Medicare
“The health care system is breaking down because there is too much government regulation.”
Yeah, because the way to turn the problem around is to get rid of rules any rules regulating them, and allow them to charge more and more in premiums for a policy that they will kick you off of in a heartbeat, and only provide coverage for the healthy, leaving the others to die off.
THAT’LL show the superiority of the free market!
You people are idiots. Scary, scary idiots.

@piltdown: I propose that, without the Government propping it up from behind, the healthcare system in this country would instantly collapse.
