Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

If you’re pissed about Biden’s speech, he was talking about you.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

This blog will pay for itself.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

You can’t love your country only when you win.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the GOP

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Their freedom requires your slavery.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

If you are still in the GOP, you are an extremist.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

Made it back in one piece, Sam and Lily said their goodbyes, and now back at Balloon Juice HQ:

twopeasinapod

According to Tammy, Lily was awful the whole time I was gone. Mean to Sam, took over Sam’s bed, and ran off twice, forcing Tammy to run around in the rain. Lily was happy to see me, though.

Dogs are children. She was pissy because you left her. She’ll be fine, Sam will be fine, but I totally understand the frustration on all sides.

She’ll have to get used to being left with other caregivers. Our dog Wendy always gives me the cold shoulder when we pick her up from the kennel, even though they treat her like a queen. Then when we get home, she’s all Mommy’s girl again.

    They are children!

Sounds like she was very unsettled with Dad gone. Cranky and uncooperative is much better than withdrawn and hiding like she used to be, though. She’s clearly a lot more confident and bolder in expressing her displeasure. I say that’s a big win.

Is it possible, at some point in the future, to add more advanced features to the Search Function such as:

    2) Searching for keywords within a date range

Lily thinks Tammy is a threat to her relationship with you, John. That’s good, insofar as it means she’s bonded securely enough that she’s willing to “disobey” when she feels neglected, but it’s probably time for you to start doing some training work with her around other people/dogs. If there isn’t a formal training class convenient for you, at least start doing a few minutes of on-lead attention, heeling, and sit/stay exercises while you’re at the dog park.

I’m not sure that Lily ran off. That is, she may have gone looking for you. Don’t know. But she obviously didn’t view where she was as an acceptable temporary home base without you there.

    An interesting little training issue….

Wish I knew. I’ve got gremlins in the stuck space station with DSL acting weird again. Was out all afternoon, and suddenly came back on around 5 pm here. I appreciate your response, but I was hoping for a Search Function on the home page.

If I’m interested in finding a keyword within the comments section, it would be advantageous to be able to type those words in a search box on the home page and get back 30 or 40 results where I could see the posts and dates where the comments containing the keywords appeared.

The option you’re suggesting, going to individual posts one at a time and hitting Ctrl-F, is much more labor intensive.

Replace “Nityananda of Ganeshpuri” (say that three times fast) with “Glenn Beck” in the comment below from the New York Post and you have something that could have been written by Brick Oven Bill. You can hide your light under a bushel, but the crazy just keeps shining out.

TAMERLANE Phillips doesn’t sound proud to be the son of Mamas and Papas founder John Phillips and the brother of Bijou Phillips. Upon learning that his half-sister Mackenzie Phillips will appear this week on Oprah Winfrey’s show to promote “High on Arrival” — her book about her troubled childhood and her drug habit — Tamerlane, 38, told Page Six: “My family is and always will be a decrepit bowl of dog urine compared to Nityananda of Ganeshpuri. That is how great Nityananda is.” The Indian yogi died in 1961. “Worship Nityananda, not the Phillips family. Nityananda can protect you,” said Tamerlane.
