So conservative bloggers are now publicly wondering if the murdered census worker was a child predator. Jesse Taylor summarizes the evidence:
1.) What if he was?
2.) Wouldn’t it be irresponsible not to theorize?
Amazing the depths these guys will sink to…
JenJen
At this point, we could have another Oklahoma City, complete with tree-of-liberty-shirt-arrest, and these bastards would still claim it had nothing to right wing extremism.
They’e shameless, and I’m beyond pissed off.
Oh, and living relatively near there and being quite familiar with that part of Kentucky, I wish old RS McCain all the luck in the world. If those are the people he wants to claim as his own, he can have ’em.

I mean, the logic is just fantastic. It not only shows the right wing’s ludicrously low threshold for convicting someone of pedophilia, it shows their ridiculously low threshold for condoning of vigilante justice.
Shit, I wouldn’t feel safe living anywhere near these people. I’m just minutes away from being heckled as a “witch” and burned at the stake.
geg6
These people are seriously horrible. Throwing this kind of stuff around about a poor murdered man who cannot even defend himself. And Reihl cannot even be bothered to do the most simple of fact checking himself, stating that there was no evidence the guy even had teaching credentials when there is video that’s been running for days from the guy’s speech at graduation. Disgusting people.

Think about all the crimes Malkin is hiding by her going after little children. The mind just reels with the speculation.

Now John, don’t rush to judgment.
I assume that you are not a child predator, but remember, it takes one to know one.
Maybe Jesse Taylor has a special insight by looking into his own soul.
JenJen
And you know, if this McCain douchebag is a reporter for American Spectator, why does he have to raise funds in order to travel to Kentucky to file a report? This guy calls himself a “shoe leather journalist” but he needs donations? Is this even remotely ethical?
Zifnab
@geg6:
It’s a parade of ignorance over there. They can’t decide how many kids he has and are all thoroughly convinced he was a loner with no friends (projection much?)

@ Gary, #8
Gary, your snark would have been more effective if you’d clicked the links, read more carefully, or in some other way known that Jesse Taylor is a liberal blogger at Pandagon, and is quoted skewering this nonsense, not creating or propagating it. The person who you want to investigate for possibly possessing special insight into the souls of child molesters is Dan Riehl, not Jesse Taylor.

Re Robert Stacy McCain, there really is something special about a guy who managed to get himself fired from the Washington Times for being too much of a sexist, racist, neoConfederate asshole even for them.

I just assumed the first phrase was generally being used in place of the second.

Dan Riehl is lower than dogshit on a shoe. That piece and the responses he made afterward are despicable. If he was writing for shock value, he overshot the mark and ended up somewhere beneath contempt.
Warren Terra
Is “stay classy” ever used in the internets other than in a sarcastic fashion, to indicate that the person being so admonished is in fact profoundly lacking in class?
JenJen
I just read that Dan Riehl post, and it is fucking abhorrent. He basically has a hunch that the murdered Census worker was gay. Then he adds that he was a teacher, which means he “gravitated toward kids.” So, combine teacher and gay, and, in the “Riehl World”, this must mean he liked to bugger kids. Truly. That’s what this guy is opining. He even brings the man’s poor, suffering mother into it, that’s the kind of piece of shit that Dan Riehl is.
Pardon my language, but this kind of shit really raises the hair on my back. How about Occam’s Razor here, you fucking assholes? How about the most obvious explanation? Why are they behaving as though he couldn’t possibly have been murdered because he is a Census worker?
Morbo
@JenJen: Better yet, they would claim it was an inside job by the Obama administration in order to push through their policies. I mean, if you think Truthers and Birthers are bad, imagine the kinetic malevolent stupid energy of the two colliding.
freemti
hmmm, maybe it was him that raped and murdered that girl in 1990?
Barbara
It has occurred to me that the murdered census worker might have been gay and entrapped along those lines. I don’t have any evidence, but the fact that he was found naked and hanging (even if his feet were touching the ground) made me wonder about it. That would still make it a hate crime, I hasten to add, but the truth is, there could be several possible explanations, some of which are not mutually exclusive. It’s also possible that certain evidence was created to hide other motives.
Who really knows at this point?

I must note that Dan Reihl has repeatedly failed to address accusations that link him with an infamous gang of goat blowers.

It seems to be a new wingnut version of “fact finding” perfected by Glenn Beck that speculating the worst about ones opponents is clearly appropriate, because … well , it would be irresponsible not to speculate. (I use speculate because that really is what they do.)

@JenJen:
Because they are shaking scared that what this looks like will be confirmed. And that their precious new conservative movement, or bowel movement of tea bagging patriots will get (rightly) blamed. There will be no way to spin themselves out of the label “whacko killer wingnuts”, so they are pre-spinning to plant doubt. Which obviously makes their plight worse. We are witnessing an entire political party have a massive mental breakdown to it’s core elements. And that is pure unadulterated mean spiritedness.

First they called them ignorant, but they were not ignorant.
Second they called them scared, but they were not scared.
This appeal to honor is a much better tactic.
Let the ignorant speak loudly, and let them be judged. Let the scared do whatever. Encourage everybody speak their mind.
“Shake off all the fears and servile prejudices under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call to her tribunal every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blindfolded fear.”
As an example, I just read Riehl’s piece and find it poorly argued and disrespectful of the dead. Therefore, Riehl loses credibility in at least one individual’s eyes. The Left needs to have more confidence in the ability of the population to reason.

Warren Terra
“Irresponsible not to speculate” is already in the lexicon.
The tradition of alleging the blowing of goats by people who make unfounded accusations about their enemies might however merit inclusion to the “Irresponsible not to speculate” lexicon entry. Unfortunately, the history of this practice starts, so far as I know offhand, with Slate blogger Mickey Kaus absolutely plotzing over the National Enquirer’s reporting rumors of Edwards’s infidelity, for which rumors the Enquirer had at that point not yet offered any evidence whatsoever. This led to a highly entertaining trend of saying that Mickey Kaus blows goats, or that we’d heard rumors to that effect and it would be irresponsible not to specualate, and it was all a lot of fun so long as you don’t like Kaus. Unfortunately it was later revealed that the Enquirer was right all along. Of course, Kaus had no evidence when he went to town on Edwards, he didn’t even know whether the Enquirer had any evidence, and so his turning out to be correct doesn’t really vindicate him – still, it did rather take the fun out of the goat blowing accusations.

Any man who works with children must be a predator. So says the “conventional wisdom.” I have a male friend who teaches elementary school and he’s had to deal with this sort of speculation and fear from various people, especially the parents of his students, for his entire career. There’s no reason for them to speculate. Nothing in his past or current conduct or anything else gives even the hint that something could be off. And yet the questions are there, apparently because of his gender. He’s a very good teacher and has a great reputation. He wins the doubters over by the end of the first semester. But still the questions pop up again and again.
With poor Mr. Taylor, it’s especially horrible for his family. It’s not bad enough that he was horrifically murdered. Now his entire reputation has to be dragged through the mud. These people are awful.
Ash
Yep, we all know that only the womenz can be teachin our kids.

Wow. I was wondering how the hell the wingnuts would try to spin this, but this particularly vile speculation actually shocked me. I mean, even from Dan Riehl, it shocked me.

And yet, the Michael Gersons of the world lament that it’s the anonymous bloggers who are scuttling civilization with their scurrilous comments. Real, honest-to-goodness, 24-karat evil is standing right in front of them, yelling “HERE I AM” in their faces, and they still can’t figure it out.
Or maybe there’s some reason they’re not only giving that evil a pass, but deflecting scrutiny from it. It would be irresponsible not to speculate, right?

@Kryptik: Yeah, I don’t find them nearly so frightening when they’re out of power. If anything, they’re laughable when not in charge. I mean, just look at the last nine months; they were always whacky but now they are conducting the train to Crazytown.
I do worry about random acts of increasing intensity, which is why Sparkman’s murder is so upsetting. Before any people start going bonkers that I’m accusing Dan Riehl of being responsible for the rape and murder of Sparkman, take a breath. I’ve done a fair amount of crime blogging mixed in with politics over time. One doesn’t rule anything in or out without some firm answers. People feel free to speculate about Meth labs and pot fields but none have been reported in the area, yet. All I’m doing is looking at any and all possibilities. You’d think a moonshiner, or Meth head would have just buried the guy. Why hang him and invite the Feds into it by writing Fed on his chest? Why would Dan Riehl strip him naked and bind and gag him, which has serious sexual overtones, unless he wanted to rape him also.

On a more serious note, If the victim was found naked, most likely he was also sexually assaulted which makes this case even sadder. It was not uncommon for lynching victims to be found naked and or be sexually mutilated. Also, the Deliverance line “squeal like a pig” was not invented out of whole cloth.
There is no evidence that Dan Riehl does not have sex with underage goats, a claim which he has never denied. If true this would make him a kid-rapist. Just speculating.

We are at war with our children. I think there was some statistic that the sex laws are mostly grabbing people who are 17 or 18 years old. Hell, if you’re 13 and you took a picture of yourself naked or even in some kind of pose you could be thrown in jail for child pornography.

Protip: Examine the underlying justifications for categorizing conceptual structures, not the nominal categories themselves.
The question is not “Should one practice ‘Charity'”; the question is “Why should one practice ‘Charity.'” Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Aquinas, and Glenn Beck all have rather different takes on the second question. And it’s an important question: this is where the different conceptions of “natural” law are critical, and why your supposed idea is radically different from the traditional definition of such.
Additionally, your quote mining is effectively random, to the point where you are either arbitrarily grabbing phrases out of context because they contain some words or concepts you vaguely understand, or you are seeing patterns in surface level platitudes that aren’t actually there. I recommend a first year, freshman level college course in basic philosophy. In a few years you might even be able to get Barack Obama to pay for the class, with socia1ism.
