Jaysus Keerist, the stadium and the announcers are getting all worked up over the fact that the Redskins got a freaking first down on their own 15. It’s gonna be a long year.
Odd that the three AFC teams (Steelers, Patriots, Chargers) that were supposed to be soooo good, are all struggling. As for the Titans? what the hell happened to them?

@Demo Woman: Last I looked, Bitsy had well over 2,000, her best week yet (we’ve been pimping her for four weeks now? Five? Ask Stuck. He keeps the count.)
However, here is the key story twist, as first noticed by Ahab in an article about it in (on?) CNN: A dog named after Stephen Colbert came in and took week 8. Mozart (Mo Mo) had a lock on it until then. They battled it out. Colbert Nation rose to the challenge. Mozart had over 4,000 yesterday. I’m guessing week 9 is Mo Mo’s.
Since Bitsy has been in the top 30 every single week we’ve been behind her, I’m hoping one of the remaining THREE (Stuck – please note) weeks goes to her. We are currently plotting behind blog doors to enlist Colbert Nation’s help in this effort. You gotta believe that the super awesome power of Juicer Nation combined with the all mighty Colbert Nation can bring it home for our Bitsy. (Or I do, anyway.)
It’s so important to vote daily. Bitsy peaks early in the week and then it drops off, which says that people are not voting daily. (None of us, of course. Those “Others”.) It’s also important to remember that it’s not a vanity contest for Bitsy and every dollar she might win will go to a new non-profit rescue group that is sorely needed in Transylvania County, NC.
And thank you for asking, Demo Woman, and to you and all the others who remind people to vote on a daily basis. You’re the best.

Tbogg, steelers lost two close games at end by bad luck. plus they were not great last year,they just put it together and played better as a team and showed more heart last year (and they have a really underrated qb, too)
chargers will never be great with norv turner as head coach, but they may beat pitt later today
pats losta lot of key players during offseason, then had a few key injurioes. then, getting an offer that was too good to lose, since he had only one year left on his contract anyway,they traded monster Richard Seymour to the raiders for a draft pick. they’re sitll 2 -1, and solidly beata good atlanta team. today will tell. baltimore should be better. IF balt can’t win though, pats are still around.
titans have a target on their back. he wasnt good (though last year he was) but they lost their def coord, albery haynesworth last year was the most disruptive qb in football, now with hurteeng skins, k collins gettin up there in age, and the titans were hungry, and took the league more by suprise last year. shd be good game today. done if they dont win. always thoght collins was underrated (three teams now he’s had the same success story), but was curious to see at what point this season vince young would be back in. now even more interesting.

Charley Casserly of CBS reports that, of the three groups that submitted bids to buy the St. Louis Rams, one group includes Dave Checketts and Limbaugh.
Officiating aside, LSU did not look like a #4 team. In the second half they did not look like a nationally ranked team. They are going to have to get their shit together if they are going to beat Florida next week.
His performance is made worse by the incompetent organization behind him.
That 12 of 33 performance had a couple drops but it had a hell of a lot more thrown 4 yards behind the intended and quite a few of them at the shoelaces of a semi-open receiver.
Granted, they had no run game either but he is just flat awful. Rocket armed with no other skill to accompany his arm strength.

@ninerdave from yesterday: You still around this thread?
I was interested in this part of something you said recently in one of the atrocious music threads:
This is the story of what happens when you commoditize something and are too short sighted to see the ramifications of your actions. I say this as someone who works in the industry (as does Polish the Guillotines, hope he doesn’t mind me calling him out!). Commoditization works in the short term, but in the end, is cannibalistic in nature.
Commoditization=Capitalism
Doesn’t this really sum up our nation as we’ve moved through the technology boom over the past 30+ years? Everything that has had value on a somewhat mass scale has been commoditized, made fungible, and pushed off to the lowest cost jurisdiction.
Granted, they had no run game either but he is just flat awful. Rocket armed with no other skill to accompany his arm strength.
Russell’s got lots of problems and hasn’t responded well to his coaches. But part of the problem is that the Raiders paid a boatload of money for him, but refuse to accept that he needed to understudy a reliable, veteran quarterback.
There is a similar problem with the Raider receivers and running backs. From a recent SF Chronicle story:
Also struggling mightily: Rookie wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey and second-year running back Darren McFadden.
One reason Davis fired Lane Kiffin was the Kiffster’s refusal to go all-in with Russell and McFadden. [Tom] Cable understands the mandate from the boss. The Raiders’ best receiver might be Javon Walker, who doesn’t play. Though healthy, Walker was deactivated for Sunday’s game. He declined to complain about his situation and lent his support to the team’s obvious plan of giving Heyward-Bey and Murphy time to grow into wide-receiver greatness.
No matter how talented the players might be, they are hampered by a dysfunctional organization sputtering on the fumes of its past greatness.
77.
Corner Stone
Man but I’d love to be watching that Saints/Jets game.
Damn regional action!
Some teams when up 8-0 would just cruise through the rest of the game. Not my Twins, oh no. They have to make it as difficult as they can. It’s just the way they are. But, they are up 10-4 in the bottom of the seventh, so there is that.
No matter how talented the players might be, they are hampered by a dysfunctional organization sputtering on the fumes of its past greatness.
No argument from me on the org.
I think the one thing the entire BJ hivemind can agree on is that the Raiders management is killing the team, and has been for some time.

I think the one thing the entire BJ hivemind can agree on is that the Raiders management is killing the team, and has been for some time.
Some of my co-workers are die-hard Raider fans who believe that all the players have to do is play hard and they could be champions again. Some of them still resent Randy Moss for not simply shutting up and accepting whatever madness that Al Davis would throw his way (although Moss didn’t help things by often being a jerk). A few even believe that coaching really isn’t even necessary, and that pro players just magically understand what they need to do.
For some reason, talking to them often seems what it must be like to have a conversation with Sarah Palin about the experience needed to be effective in national office.
86.

I was interested in this part of something you said recently in one of the atrocious music threads:
Commoditization=Capitalism
Doesn’t this really sum up our nation as we’ve moved through the technology boom over the past 30+ years? Everything that has had value on a somewhat mass scale has been commoditized, made fungible, and pushed off to the lowest cost jurisdiction.

Bills @ Miami so far = snorefest
Corner Stone
@Max: Did you lose a bet to someone?
Max
@Corner Stone: It feel a little early in the season to nap during a Bills game, but I am getting a little yawny.
I’m going to have a cup of Starbucks new instant coffee, VIA, which is delish, btw. yum yum and I am being totally serious.

@Corner Stone:

No matter how talented the players might be, they are hampered by a dysfunctional organization sputtering on the fumes of its past greatness.

Corner Stone
@Brachiator:
No argument from me on the org.
I think the one thing the entire BJ hivemind can agree on is that the Raiders management is killing the team, and has been for some time.
(I would say two things as we can all agree Tunch is..um…large. But opinions differ from “statuesque” to “burlesque” to “Econovanesque”.)

@Corner Stone: You and me both. Saints 10 – 0 so far :)

There is NO ONE IN THE LEAGUE as good as Tom Brady.
Flacco, bend over and kiss those rings. Another pretender vanquished.
Quake with fear, you tiny fools!
Max
@Nethead Jay: Watching it! Sunday Ticket on Direct TV FTW.
Hate the Jets. Cheering for the Saints.
Max
P.S. – Lovin’ the pink in today’s games.

@asiangrrlMN:
Gardy just loves some players, and I don’t get it. Why does he use Bobby Keppel? Does Keppel have incriminating pictures?
Brachiator
@Corner Stone:
Nethead Jay
@Max: You lucky… Was cheering for the Ravens earlier because I can’t stand Belichick and the Patriots, but Saints is my team and I join you in dislike for the Jets.
asiangrrlMN
@Gus: Don’t know, Gus, but welcome game 163!
I should amend to add that Gardy likes some guys who ‘play hard’ and ‘are team players’. Me, I want the best talent we have.
Sigh. This is really hard on the heart.

Saturday Night Live goes off on President Obama. Man, I’m sure that the PUMA crowd is just touching themselves over this sketch. It probably went over the heads of the Republicans though.

@Max: Thanks so much for the heads up about Farm Aid on Sirius! I’ve been toggling between it and NFL all day.

@asiangrrlMN:
Guess you’ll be calling in sick on Tuesday.
asiangrrlMN
@burnspbesq: It’s at four. Plus, I think it’s on cable. I may have to go to the local sports bar.
Aaaargh!

New pics of Sam at my url.
That is all. :)

Hate to break it, but everyone in the NFL cheats in some fashion. Same for every other sport you care to watch.
Commonly attributed to Leo Durocher, but I have no idea.
Anyhow, go Patriots. Too bad my fantasy opponent had the 9ers defense. The Rams are vile, pathetic, and should be barred from participating in the NFL.
Joel
@tbogg: You mean the 3-1 Patriots who lost their only game on the road, against a divisional rival, and by a touchdown? Other than that, yeah.
asiangrrlMN
@RedKitten: Oh my god, Krista. Looking at that adorable baby just makes me smile. He’s so cuuuuute!
And, is that the real tbogg? I may faint in excitement.
Jack
Heh. Double plus good heh. I love football and hate football money – but it sure is good, in a schadenfreudian kind of way, to see the Pats win in the face of all that fetishized hatred.
