Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The GOP is a fucking disgrace.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

I’m pretty sure there’s only one Jack Smith.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

A lot of Dems talk about what the media tells them to talk about. Not helpful.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

No Justins, No Peace

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

People are complicated. Love is not.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

We are aware of all internet traditions.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

Move over, Mouthpiece Theater. For every single one of you who has told me I have been too hard on the glibertarians at Reason, I present you the Fonzi of Freedom, Nick Gillespie, putting that Koch Foundation money to good use:

I’m surprised he took off the leather jacket. And I challenge you to find something as absurd as that on any wingnut blog.

On the upside, he wasn’t in a cheerleader outfit.

I thought the piece was both funny and worthwhile. Obama being named the winner was silly. Of course, he has done much good simply by not being George W. Bush, but when you consider the ongoing wars that at time lead even to civilian deaths, the posturing on Iran, and the near embrace of Bush-Cheney anti-terrorism policies, the award cries out to be satirized.

It was pretty funny until the end. That heavy-handed garbage ruined it. I guess the knowledge of who his audience is kind of ruins it too, but if the Onion did something similar to the first 90% of it, no one would bat an eye.

You really don’t want to challenge us to find something more absurd in Wingnuttia, because, well, because it’s too easy. Say for example Michelle Malkin has deemed it appropriate to criticize the art pics of the Obamas. You, know the art that they borrow to put in the WH including their personal quarters. She actually pulled up an art piece of Alma Thomas’ who she is accusing of “plagiarism” from a Matisse piece. Jeebuz, I don’t know what to say anymore. I was critical of Bush but jeezus, not his f##$$ing taste in art.

I have never had such a fun day at work, I must say. It all started at 5:30am when I heard that the MUP was getting the Nobel Peace Prize and I literally laughed out loud at the thought of the wingnut frenzy. Then I caught my christianist staff assistant in a lie and had to call her out on it, which sent her into a spittle-flecked explanation of how what she said wasn’t really a lie. And then my sister, a professor at a right-leaning private university just up the road from my own public one, called me this afternoon to read me a paper from one of her students in her honors Bible As Literature class in which the student argues (after being told repeatedly and on the syllabus that they were not to argue any of their theses for papers from religious viewpoints but strictly through literary analysis) that the story of Gilgamesh and Inkadu has no homosexual undertones and uses as an authority a Christian rock band.

    What a day.

That was pathetic. I have no problem laughing at my own team if it is done well. 6th graders making up their own comedy skit could make a better humor video.
Liberals, imo, are just better at humor. The commenters here prove that daily.
One of the top ten reasons I could never be a republican or libertarian.

Oh, come on. That was actually an honest go at humor. If SNL or Daily Show end up doing a skit like this before next week, I won’t be surprised.

Even the bit at the end with the Hindenburg in the picture window and the big yellow “We’re Doomed!” scrawl on it was cute. I would have laughed if I didn’t think they took it absolutely seriously.

It would be nice if Reason wasn’t so dead-head partisan that it refused to call out all the absurdity in their own backyard. But that was a perfectly good joke.

    Sounds like a fun day.

One of my favorite college classes was “The Literary Use of the Bible,” which was more about how biblical themes and images were represented in English literature than about reading the Bible as literature.

By the way, one of the more creative references to Gilgamesh and Inkadu was in the Star Trek: Next Generation episode, “Darmok.”

Comes from the shcool children in New Jersey singing Obama’s praises. It’s been spread across the right-wing echo chamber by Rush Limbaugh, of course.

He used it extensively in his gleeful trashing of Obama for losing out on the Olympic bid last week. Now they’re all doing it.
