I fell asleep in my LazyBoy before 9:30pm last night and stumbled into bed at around 11. Slept about 9 hours and I feel wonderful this morning. Yesterday’s Nobel freakout had me laughing all day and it must have relaxed me enough to finally sleep well for the first time in weeks. Today should also be a good day. My John’s high school alma mater is having it’s last homecoming as the school is merging with another district to become a new entity, so they are having an alumni weekend. John was in the first graduating class (1966) that had four-year lettermen and they are being honored with a float in the parade today. I tried to teach him the royal wave for his float ride, but he is not as trainable as his dogs. I plan to watch him glide by this afternoon and then we will go to a party for the alumni where a band specializing in 60s soul will be playing. He was, apparently, a popular guy with the women in those days, so I look forward to meeting the ex-girlfriends and making them jealous of my youth. At 50, it’s not often I get to be the “young hussy,” so I should enjoy it very much. ;-)

I’m up at 7 on a Saturday because I have to go to work, but that video definitely took the sting out of another 6-day workweek and a night of insomnia. Thanks, Anne Laurie!
Yesterday was my b’day and the volunteers at my job brought in a strawberry-rhubarb pie, as they know I don’t like cake. Awww… it’s the little joys in life. :)

Thanks! That was fun.

@geg6:
Wow, after 9 hrs of great sleep, I can just feel you are brimming over with energy this morning. I’m jealous. I’d be ecstatic if I got 7 or even 6 solid hrs a night.
I finished unloading outdoor flower pots of dirt & other yard cleanup yesterday when it was sunny & 42 deg and husband hurried up with the last lawn mowing. The forecasters were right this time. It’s still dark but I can see the ground covered with 2 inches of snow! The leaves haven’t even reached peak color here yet let alone fallen.
My favorite thing I read yesterday was State Dept Asst Secretary Crowley saying about Obama’s Nobel Prize was that it was better to have accolades tossed at the US instead of shoes. Zing.

ironranger: Amazing what a good night’s sleep does for a body, isn’t it? Especially when it’s been weeks since the last one. Menopause has played havoc with my sleep (not to mention my basal body temperature). No snow here yet, thank FSM. But it is a classic Western PA fall day and I feel good. Fall is my favorite time of year!

@geg6:
The ‘pause’ is what eliminated me from being a Olympic gold medal sleeper…9 hrs straight with no pee breaks was the norm once upon a time. I’m on the other side of the pause now but sleeping well is the one buggaboo I haven’t been able to conquer yet. Who knew you had to work at getting proper sleep.
That ad is really excellent. And Bitsy was just at 2,011 when I voted. I’m going to be away without my cats for two days, a rare occurence as they usually go everywhere with me, and I’m not happy about it. They’ll be fine–me, not so much.
I’ve gone back to work (freelance proofreading) and so haven’t been able to spend my usual many hours skipping through blogs. I miss time on BJ the most. However, my blood pressure probably is considerably lower, as I’m not being overwhelmed with wingnut antics.

You know that isn’t the way the italics were supposed to be, please ignore. The formatting, not the brilliant thoughts.

Story and photo are both great! Thanks, that was funny.
It poured here overnight (like we need more rain in metro Atlanta) and supposed to rain on and off for the next few days — the good news is that it’s also going to be cooler. I’m completely ready for fall weather.
I’m an opera buff and will spend the afternoon watching the first of this season’s Metropolitan Opera in HD (live performances simulcast from the Met at selected theatres). I’ve been going to these for the past few years and really enjoy them. Today is Puccini’s *Tosca* so you can expect me to wallow like crazy :-)
Have a good Saturday, everyone. Oh, and don’t forget to vote for Bitsy!

@Nicole–happy belated birthday and *yum* on the strawberry-rhubarb pie!
Wow, I totally misinterpreted that ad. I thought it was an ad for the condom version of a “seeing eye dog.”

Mark Steyn:
…under Congressman Rangel’s recently tightened federal ethics rules, the president has to give the [prize] money to an ACORN-supported child-sex brothel symbolizing in a very real sense “cooperation between peoples” of many lands.
@ironranger: Wow, me, too. Do you live in the shadow of the Rockies as well? As far as sleep, I came home from work early and slept from noon yesterday until 5pm, then on and off again from 7-11, then until 7am. Why, yes, I am sick. Feeling better today, fever is gone. Very weird though, my only symptoms were my inability to stay awake and 101 temp.
Loved the video Anne. :-)

ACORN-supported child-sex brothel — the new smear easily condensed. gotta give ’em props for their ability to come up with the most libelous and effective phrases.
SiubhanDuinne: i esp loved the tale of ‘rover’ going crazy on furniture when the ‘owners’ weren’t home.
@linda: Thanks for story. Sigh, I’m working really hard not to go to the pound and getting a dog. House feels so empty without. But now is not the time….but soon, soon.
BTW – GO ROCKIES!! GO BOSOX!

A taste of winter to come. Only 28 deg yet, windy..it’s going to feel like November through the weekend. It’s odd to see snow on green & red leaves still on the trees. This early blast of snow won’t last, at least we sure hope not.

What a great PSA.
What great dogs.
The commercial that gets me every time these days is the one that shows the shaggy white dog who can’t sleep, who can’t find any peace, without knowing his special huge bone is safe.
Why haven’t we deported Mark Stain yet? He’s a Canuck and we ought to deport his ass back to Canuckistan. We can’t deport Frum or Bobo because they’re citizens, but Stain is fair game, as is Randy Andy Sullivan, who should be sent packing back to blighty.
