Did You Ask Amy Carter and Jenna Bush, too?

I’m really sick of this infatuation with Liz Cheney. The only reason the media is paying any attention to her is because she will launch wild attacks on the current administration. She’s basically a less-attractive Sarah Palin with a more prominent lineage.

Who cares what she thinks? Aren’t there people who actually know things who you could talk to, or are you just eager to help Dick’s daughter rehab the family image?

Clearly, name recognition has trumped actually knowing something about the topic at hand in today’s media. I’m afraid we’ll be living with asshats like her forever until and unless something is done about corporate ownership of the media.

The fact that the Washington media is so enamored of the utterly repellent Cheney family tells you everything you need to know about the Washington media. Normal human beings feel their skin crawl when they see the likes of Dick, Lynn and Liz. The soul-dead talking heads on TV see kindred spirits.

I can save CNN a lot of trouble- Liz Cheney thinks that Bush’s foreign policy decisions made us safer, Grover Norquist thinks that we need to lower taxes, John Bolton thinks the best time to bomb Iran is now, and the National Association of Realtors thinks that there’s never been a better time to buy a house.

You’re clearly just saying that because she’s gay.

And, in all fairness, doesn’t McCain’s daughter have a column in the Daily Beast? Your parent doesn’t even have to win elective office to get a megaphone these days.

Besides, I don’t know if you actually watched the Daily Show clip up on the site, but did it give you any impression that CNN was even remotely interested in talk to people who know things?

I’ve come to hate the phrase “keep America safe”. Any of the derivatives, “keeping, etc.” Figures a Cheney made it into a logo.

It’s so clearly marketing, and such a disrespectful pander to voter’s base fears, and such a babyish, condescending lie.

I hope media continue to promote her and she runs for President. She’d be fun to beat.

She can take that phrase with her. It sums up all the fear-mongering and infantile pandering of the Bush Era. Put it over there with “family values” in the used-up scare-tactic pile.

This is just such a useful quote. For Liz especially.

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (John 8:44)

    October 13, 2009 at 4:32 pm

Don’t forget that Liz was Dick’s mole in the State Department for several years.

Indeed, Liz Cheney served two stints in the State Department while Dick was up to his illegal and largely still unknown secretive actions. And she wasn’t stationed at the Iceland desk. She had responsibilities directly related to “diplomacy” in the Middle East.

In 2002, Liz was appointed to the “vacant” position of Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern [Middle-Eastern] Affairs. In 2005, after taking time off from the State Department to work on her father’s re-election, she was named Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State For Near Eastern Affairs. In 2006, Liz became the head of the State Department Iran Syria Policy and Operations Group.

On a personal note for Liz, what makes all of this even more incestuous in terms of who knew and did what and when, Liz is married to one Philip Perry, who served in the Bush/Cheney administration as the General Counsel of the United States Department of Homeland Security.

So it strains the credibility of Liz’s media “defense of Dad” tour when you know that she was a player in Middle Eastern policy, and likely spoke frequently with her father about issues relating to that region and what he was up to — and that the issue of what she also knew and when she knew it is relevant in judging her believability, although not necessarily criminal on her part.

I sometimes feel bad for her, since her father is a sociopath and everything and one of the worst human beings in the world. She probably doesn’t know what it’s like to feel human emotions.

@JK: Exactly. The media has had a long-distance love affair with Dick for such a long time. And he just won’t get close enough to satisfy them. So, they settle. Sure, Liz bares her canines a bit less than they’d like and actually lives above ground, but she’s more accessible. And they can always fantasize in their free time.

    @Uli Kunkel:

I don’t think she’s effective. She sneers, she narrows her eyes, she waves her hand, she does everything but roll her eyes. She treats her opponent with contempt.

She talks over the other side, she assumes broad public authority on a range of issues with the general public when she hasn’t earned any, she’s a sneering bully, and she lies a lot.

That’s not “effective” when regular people who don’t know one thing about her are watching. It’s arrogant. She started with the assumption that she had “credibility”, because she lives in a freaking bubble.

I hope they keep rolling her out. It’s going well, from where I’m sitting.

The news media is hopeless in this country, absolutely hopeless. Jon Stewart’s take on CNN in your prior thread was so dead on that while it was hilarious it was also painfully sad. When you combine that with the dredges in Washington from both sides of aisle who would rather ratfuck everyone in the country if it means retaining power, well, it becomes difficult to see how even reasoned moderate progress on any important issue is almost impossible. This doesn’t necessarily mean we are on the cusp of an authoritarian state, but chaotic governance such as they have in Italy would be my bet.
