Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Since we are repeating ourselves, let me just say fuck that.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

You cannot shame the shameless.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

I swear, each month of 2025 will have its own history degree.

The lights are all blinking red.

In my day, never was longer.

In after Baud. Damn.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Is trump is trying to break black America over his knee? signs point to ‘yes’.

A norm that restrains only one side really is not a norm – it is a trap.

“I was told there would be no fact checking.”

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

That meeting sounds like a shotgun wedding between a shitshow and a clusterfuck.

    I said it last night, I got sucked into looking at all the pictures everyone posted and it was such a treat. So many talented people on BJ.

    Speaking of talented, I have once again posted a recipe from BJ-er, Kirk Spencer. As always his recipes are as much fun to read as they are to eat. Kirk’s California Trout

    @Betsy:

    White Sands is really cool. It’s like being on the moon.

    Well, if the moon had an atmosphere and a bunch of dogs running around. Other than that, yeah, the moon.

    @Mark S.: It’s the only moon we’ll have left at this rate so you’d better learn to appreciate it. Not that we didn’t spend a few years blowing up White Sands also.

    The Biloxi – Ocean Springs Bridge is a recently completed structure that replaced the previous span that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. For many here on the coast, it’s symbolic of the rebirth of the region.

    @getsmartin:

    Wow. Fantastic. I had traveled over the old bridge many many times while I lived in Biloxi during the 90’s. Worked at the old Broadwater. And even fished off the old really old bridge. This new one is gorgeous. I guess Point Cadet got wiped out too.

    @General Winfield Stuck:

    Here’s an aerial of the bridge post Katrina (click here)”.

    The entire coastline was “whacked” by the storm. We’re well into the rebuild these days, though.

    The Broadwater? I used to drink the daily doubles at the marina more often than I care to admit.

    That’s some kind of destruction. The MGC is a beautiful place to live. I still miss it sometimes.

    That White Sands picture is simply lovely; my several visits there came pretty close to a religious experience for me, and that shot captures some sense of the mind-stopping alienness of the landscape. I’ve very rarely been anywhere else where I felt like I was literally on another planet (some caverns have come close).

    Winter Home is an absolutely gorgeous photograph – but it fills me with such a deep sense of longing that I have to look away.

    More photo threads, plz! We’ve got some real talent lurking around these parts.
