Ads would auto-play Kumbaya.

Quite a bit easier on the eyes & brain?
Personally, I just wonder what it would look like if liberals were more group-oriented.
I’m aware of what an individual can invent or initiate, but hell’s bells, nothing beats a large group for getting shit done.
Hey, remember back when there were more neocons in the world than punk-rockers? Ah, bad times, bad times.
kid bitzer
well it wouldn’t look like ann coulter, at least.
too many intransigent rumps in the republican party–and we have to look at them on balloon juice.
soonergrunt
One imagines ads for Al Franken’s books popping up on Red
AssState.The fury there would make the epic Pie Fights on the GOS look like a kindergarten sing-along.
The Grand Panjandrum
I’m not sure it would ever make much difference. The conservatives are always looking for someone to follow, and progressives are always looking for someone to lead.
SiubhanDuinne
It would be a Lilypalooza of Bitsyliciousness, all Tunchy-feely.
geg6
@soonergrunt:
That would awesome, though, wouldn’t it?

@SiubhanDuinne:

P-e-n-i-s reduction ads, of course.

@soonergrunt:
Why isn’t George Soros funding ads just so this can happen? Bitsyliciousness, indeed!

That’s cuz everyone likes beating up on rent-collecting insurance parasites, only some like beating up on rent-collecting hospitals, and very few like beating up on rent-collecting physicians.

I wonder what it would look like if liberal groups ever had nearly as much money to piss away as they see fit as

@jim:
The real difference is that conversatives are, by-and-large, of lower intelligence (this has been shown repeatedly in many surveys). Collective action problems are much easier to solve when the group is populated by morons who’ll follow the bidding of the leaders without question.
GReynoldsCT00
you mean “morans” don’t you?

A few weeks ago, when the banner ad screamed “FREE NEWT!”, I had hopes for a moment that the ratfucker bastard had finally been thrown in jail. No such luck.

Didn’t they find her dead at the beginning of the third movie?

I’d pay to see it.

@SiubhanDuinne: Yes to this. Bitsy, Lily, and, especially TUUUUUUNCH all the time.
@soonergrunt: Double yes to this. Senator Al Franken, bitchez. He gives me a warm feeling.
Just Some Fuckhead
I don’t wanna find out. Republicans are so damned good-looking, I just masturbated to another McDonnell ad.
snds4x4
Well, if this site was more liberal, maybe you would get a few more liberal advertisements.
I consider this site the ‘relatively honest, but confused conservative web site’. Or, should I say Republican? Not sure after NY-23.
Being a recovered Republican from the Reagan days, I recognized the symptoms of recovering Republicans. Which is exhibited by you all at one time or another.

Hardly. At least by American standards, JC is quite liberal now.

@snds4×4:
I thought mostly we were “holier than thou because we were never so dumb as John was” non-Republicans, but overall welcoming to the sufficiently repentant. No?
soonergrunt
@snds4×4: I take umbrage with that. I was a republican for about 9 seconds in the late 80’s in the Army. After I realized that Republicans cared about soldiers only as much as soldiers were an excuse to give money to defense contractors, I left that party and never looked back.
SiubhanDuinne
@asiangrrlMN: Some time I would love to see you and Tuuuuuuunch in the same room together.

@liberal: Yeah he is! Supports gay marriage? Check. Wants to dismantle Goldman? Check. Wants out of Iraq? Check. Supports HCR? Check. Supports higher taxation of the wealthy? Check. Thinks the GOP is batshit insane? Check and double check. I’m say JC is about one step away from farting patchouli dust.

Actually, in this thread John actually admits

Liberal groups do advertise on line. Their ads are all over the GOS. I imagine they look as dopey to RWers as their ads look to us.

I checked back here, about to link to this post of JC’s. My guess is that this easily puts him in the left half of the Democratic Party. Probably the left 1/4.

I have never had a Republican moment at all.
I’m here for the cute photos of happy pets. :)

@soonergrunt:
Were you an officer? ISTR that while the armed forces aren’t super-duper Republican, the officer corp is. E.g. something like colonels being 90% Republican. (Yikes.)
geg6
@snds4×4:
WTF?
Are you for real? Recovering Republican? Me?
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I hate to tell you, but when I registered to vote in 1976, I registered Democrat. My registration still says the same thing. I have voted for 2 Republicans in my entire adult life: John Heinz and Arlen Specter.
Hard to see how that makes me any sort of Republican, especially now.
scav
@WereBear: Ditto, in spades, clubs, hearts, diamonds and jokers, only I’m here for the quality of snark.

@Just Some Fuckhead:
Tee hee. I won’t vote for them even if they’re the only person on the ballot for dogcatcher. Occasionally even the lefty weekly paper will endorse a Republican for some lower-level office and I still won’t vote for them, although I’m not above voting for no one. My philosophy is, if you want me to take you seriously you’re going to have to put another letter after your name. It can be W for the Wu-Tang Clan Party for all I care, it just has to be different.
Zifnab
@snds4×4:
Wait, are you a “recovered Republican from the Reagan Days” as in “I quit being a Republican because of Reagen, but I have since recovered” or “I was a Reagen Republican and have since recovered from the affliction”?
Do you also recognize all internet traditions?
soonergrunt
@liberal:
Nope, not an officer. I work for a living!
I got that stupid republican idea in my head from an NCO.
I’m a senior NCO myself now, and I DON’T go around telling my soldiers who to vote for.
That was another thing that turned me off of republicans. That whole “I’m not supposed to tell you who to vote for, but if you love the Army or you love America, vote republican” shit that I would hear from time to time.
Omnes Omnibus
@liberal: I was an officer and I have never voted for a Republican. In my battalion, back in the late 80’s-early 90’s, there was one other lieutenant who identified as a Democrat. Many were not-political, in that they despised and and all politicians. Most of the others, I presume, were republicans. Anecdotal, but there it is.
Ash Can
@Just Some Fuckhead:
I’m guessing that’s because the damned stuff just yanked out half the fillings in your molars.

@jibeaux:
One reason I’m not repulsed by JC having voted for Bush twice (which in other circumstances would indeed be repulsive) is that not all that many people can claim the transformation he can.
My mom and my dad can, but I can’t—grew up in a household where “that f*cking Reagan” started half the conversations.
scav
“that f*cking Reagan”
wasn’t that his name?
liberal
@soonergrunt:
Yeah, from your post it didn’t sound like you were an officer.
I like the “work for a living” comment. :-)
Honestly, though, my impression is that the Air Force is the worst, but that’s only because of hearing about all that Colorado Springs crap.

@geg6:
I’ve been waiting patiently for that meme to reappear. Dog bless you!

@Omnes Omnibus:
I have a lot of respect for the ones who are Democrats—it’s easy for me to be liberal, having been raised in a FSM-fearing household and working in “scientific” research on the guvmint’s teat.
I also have tons of respect for businessfolk who are lib/Dems, given that many aren’t.
jibeaux
@liberal:
Oh, agreed. My husband grew up in that kind of household. Apparently his sister tried to lecture the kindergarten class on El Salvador one day. They turned out liberal, but rather less interested in discussing politics 24/7, enjoy self-mockery, and are likely to try to change the subject at Thanksgiving over to the delicious pie crust. Everybody’s gotta rebel somehow.

@geg6: It seems we may share a blessed memory: Finally being legal to vote, the first human being I cast a vote for was Jimmy Carter – actually, I was an OSU campus organizer for his campaign. Only one time since has casting a vote brought a tear drop, or two.
@snds4×4: Stop sniffing white out.
Just Some Fuckhead
@jibeaux: Same here, except I also actively heckle them at the polls. Usually I’ll dramatically steer my small children away from them while loudly pronouncing Republicans are scary bad people who torture and make war under false pretenses, etc.
Whatever it takes to get the wrinkly old white fuckers so jacked up they start screaming.
scav
@Zifnab: ah yes. co-equal but entirely separate circles of hell in my upbringing. Tricky D covered ice and Ronnie had dominion over flames.
Omnes Omnibus
@liberal: It was fairly easy for me. I grew up in a liberal family that also has a history of military service going back to the Pequot War. We are weird that way. Not that proud of the specifics of the Pequot War either. Also.
geg6
@Just Some Fuckhead:
Well, in my defense, Heinz would be a lefty Dem today. And I voted for Specter once because he was the only pro-choice candidate. Both times were over a decade ago.
geg6
@Keith G:
Yes! Me, too. And I was involved in the planning for a campaign stop he did in the little local town of Aliquippa, PA. My best friend was dating an “older man” (he was all of about 22) who did all the signage for the event. I got to meet him and shake his hand while we were both shoveling shrimp from the buffet table onto our plates.
Good times.
IndyLib
@soonergrunt:
My husband claims that in the Navy the officers are more likely to be Dems and a majority of the enlisted are Republicans. There were quite a few senior enlisted at his command that voted for Obama this go around, though I’m pretty sure if you do a racial breakdown, he was in the minority of white NCO’s voting Dem.
inkadu
@Ash Can: Opposite-side ads look dopey because they’re not really outreach ads; they’re usually fund-raising or selling in-group products.
I do enjoy the t-shirt models from both sides.
Which reminds me of a group of Pro-Lieberman supporters at the Democratic Party Primary a few years ago… they were all students at UConn and clearly didn’t know anything about politics … I just wondered WTF they were doing there. I realized a very frightening fact: a large chunk of people in politics don’t get into it for policy reasons, or to make a difference, but because it’s a social club for the powerful, or just some sort of hobby to make themselves feel better about themselves.
inkadu
TPUd. Damnit.

@Svensker
Damn! You beat me to it!! Loved that one! Succinct and snarky.
I think this guy is teh awesome.
And FTR, I’ve *never* voted for a republican in my whole life. And never will except under duress or maybe perhaps an evening with Don Draper. Wait, no. Just say NO to nights with Don Draper! And republicans, too. unless the sex is really, really good and then maybe
Omnes Omnibus
@MysticalChick: I supported Nixon in 1972 on the theory that hae was doing a ggod job and should be allowed to continue as pres. Of course, I was 8 y/o and in third grade. Last Republican I supported for anything. “Fool me once, won’t get fooled again.”

As someone who has been proud to be a Democrat since just before my fifth birthday, I hereby owe you a punch in the neck. You’re suffering from the apostates’ affliction — projecting your personal failing as a former cultist onto your current associates.

Look for this campaign to start early 2010. It’s going to be huge, but LOTS of money has to be raised to combat the for-profit health insurance industry
