Any word yet on the religion of the shooter in Florida?

I’ve got a 2-liter of diet root beer and COD4 in the tray, trying to regain my FPS skillz in anticipation of Tuesday.

Better than KOTOR? That’s a pretty high bar to clear. Once I have time to do some gaming again, I’ll have to give it a look.

I will be watching Sci-fi. Robert Carlyle will be on until ten and then I may check out this White Collar that you speak of because that Amanda Tapping show is unwatchable.

John, got that camera working yet? Been a tough week.

Deep thoughts for a Friday…
…is a dork the same as a nerd…
…and should the phrase Anal Retentive be hyphenated?
Shade Tail
Earlier this evening, Markos Moulitsas totally *BITCHSLAPPED* Tom Tancredo. It was beautiful.
Linky to the kossacks.
WereBear
I think the phrase “anal retentive” has been around long enough to drop the hyphen, as the term “web-site” no longer needs it, and is even younger.
On a personal note, our only car has been diagnosed with a serious illness. We can drop in a new engine (hah!) or take the poverty route and just keep it topped off with oil.
I’ll take a grant to get us an electric car. Anyone?

Wait, better than Mass Effect? That I have to see.

I worry that John Cole missed last week’s Monk, wherein Monk adopted a dog.

@WereBear: Sorry about the car. However, I read it as ‘cat’ first, so I am actually relieved it’s your car and not a cat.
@Shade Tail: Wow. Amazing. We need more of this. Maybe not the personal shot, though relevant, but just firmly taking apart the lies that these asshats are spreading.
NaNoWriMo, bitchez! I have to meet my quota for the day, and I haven’t started yet. So, like the Governator, I’ll be back…or not.

I’m looking forward to it as well.

Is Dragon Age similar to Oblivion?
WereBear
@asiangrrlMN: Thanks, I’m being philosophical as well.

@WereBear:
My goal is to get a Honda Civic GX; it is Natural Gas and I’ll put in the home filling station and neither are ridiculously expensive. I’ll never have to go to the gas station again! Well, for around town.
Course, if my pockets were deep. I’d go for a Tesla, but my pockets are shallow, so I top off with oil frequently.

To anyone even slightly interested in Dragon Age: do yourself a favor and buy it right now! I am greatly resenting my company for sending me out of town on business the weekend it was released. I nearly missed my flight out because I couldn’t stop playing.

@Tattoosydney: Just who I was looking for. This arrived in the mail today, and I am just now giving it a (virtual) spin.

I’d bundle up and get to work on a Segway if need be. Invest in one of those copper mesh balaclavas.
It routinely gets to -40 in the winter around here. We can measure snow in feet.
Just to ward off the well meaning who mention bicycles.
AhabTRuler
Well, I can measure snow in feet, I just lack the opportunities.
BettyPageisaBlonde
Oh great. Better than KOTOR. Yeah. As someone who got a job in the crappy economy hearing that is almost too much, “Wait, I can buy the game at launch but it will suck up all of my time?”
I’ll wait and try it out like I just did with Mass Effect (crazy fun) a number of months/years after it comes out.
I need this job!

Come on up! I can get you a deal.

It’s about 35 degrees outside. My dog just hopped up on the bed and crawled under the covers. He’s snuggled up in the middle of the bed. Right on my feet.
That’s why I got a dog in the first place.

No, it’s closer to the Baldur’s Gate series, with some Neverwinter Nights thrown in for good measure.

3rd Generation Southern Californian here; my blood is far, FAR too thin for this “measuring snow in feet” stuff. On the flipside, I burned enough as a kid that I’m probably a primo melanoma case in waiting (for my Insurer, please don’t make this a case of recission, thank you in advance).
Leelee for Obama
@The Dangerman: I think anyone can be a dork, but a nerd must be mathematically gifted and/or computer brilliant ( near geek status ).
Anal-retentive is such a wondrous adjective that even though I think the two words can stand on their own, the hyphenation indicates that it’s meant to be used to complement a noun, not be one.
RedKitten
@demkat620: Yeah, dogs make the best bed-warmers. It’s definitely a night for extra blankets — the wind is just howling out there.
No major nerd-dom here, although I did play a bit of Civ IV this evening, which was a refreshing change of pace. I haven’t played it at all since before Sam was born. I don’t dare get into any sort of addictive RPG, as tempting as Dragon Age looks.

I’m gonna be making a simple gravy that he’s been hounding me for months to teach him how to cook. I’d write it down but to be honest I do it more by feel than exact measurements. This is probably why I can’t bake. :)

@WereBear: Blech, winter. I wouldn’t mind it so much if it didn’t get dark at 4:30 in the afternoon. That’s the depressing part. If I lived in Iceland, I would seriously be hitting the bottle.

My dorky night: watching Stargate Universe.
Earlier, during a less dorky period: Grilled some veggies, sauted some eggplant, put together a good dinner.
Yet earlier, being non-dorky: Helped load my wife’s ancient motorcycle (1978 Honda Hawk) onto the trailer of its new owner. Good riddance.
WereBear
@RedKitten: It can be a bummer (stupid Daylight Savings Time makes it happen all at once) but Winter Solstice is right around the corner. No coincidence that this is the season for eating and drinking, though :)
I must say that it is high elevation, so it’s what they call an Alpine climate. Dry cold, lots of sunny days, and deep blue skies. If the wind isn’t blowing and the sun is out, you can walk around with your coat open and needing sunglasses.
Even though the winters on Long Island were shorter, the sky would get overcast in mid-November… and not clear until March. That’s even more of a bummer.
demkat620
@Yutsano: You’re killing me. I am going to quit my diet.
@RedKitten: I don’t mind that, I just can’t stand being cold. I can’t imagine being in Canada or Alaska, I went to Buffalo once in May and it was too cold for me. Anything between 85 and 93 is perfect.

Yutsano
@Tattoosydney: Organising flowers and wine this week.
Do you have an opinion of Yellowtail? I saw it in the store the other day and didn’t pick up a bottle most because it was a chardonnay I saw and I am definitely anti-chardonnay. There’s another Aussie wine I’m trying to think of the name of that’s escaping me. Also a recommendation if you want to save a few bucks: at least in the US prosecco is cheaper than champagne and is just as tasty (if not tastier, and no it has nothing to do with me once dating a Canadian Siciliano!), just a thought for your consideration.
Oh, and I have my birthday in the meantime to distract me.

One is supposed to be taken out drinking, and then be humiliated in public in silly costumes. Strippers are often involved.
However while ours had humiliating costumes, we managed to get the best man who was organising it so pissed that he forgot we were supposed to leave the house. A very drunken evening ensued.
You know its turned into a good party when a straight, late thirties law firm partner decides it’s a good idea to try on 6 inch platform stiletto heels while drunk.

OMFG Dragon Age is the bomb.com Feel flattered that I took time out of my XBOXathon to check your blog. Yes, I give this one a 10, it def. has a mass effect feel…I wish the main character had a voice like Shepards….so far I’ve made 5 characters, but I’m playing my human assassin all the way through first…she’s whored herself out to everyone who is willing :) I chose Zevran, but I will keep Alistair for the rest of my characters, there’s something just so sweet about him :) :) heeeeeeee :P

If you’re playing on the PC, there’s a patch out today, and I’d suggest grabbing it. One thing it does is slightly increase your character’s stats if you’re playing on normal. And if you’re like me (downing a health potion per character every battle), it’s a nice bump.

I’m watching an episode of Mystery Science Theater: 3000. Soultaker. Which stars Martin Sheen’s brother, Joe Estevez. Who looks a lot like Martin, Emilio and Charlie, but doesn’t seem to have any of their talent. Although after watching The Mighty Ducks and an episode of Two and a Half Men I’m not sure that talent is a word that could be used to describe the cinematic and television ouevres* of Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez.
Martin Sheen on the other hand. Well two words Apocalypse and Now. Not only is it a great movie but anyone who could have survived filming that ordeal, and Sheen did have a heart attack during production, is a seriously tough dude. Oh, and he wasn’t bad in The Final Countdown either.
*I used the word oeuvre because I want to become a David Brooks style pundit for a major newspaper. Sure, the newspapers are going down faster than Larry Craig in an airport toilet**, but the money’s not bad and there would be a certain fin de siecle***elegance to working at the Kaplan Post or NYT as they take that final swirl around the toilet of obsolete business models****.
**Fuck, that still cracks me up, especially the way he looked in the mugshot, oh, and the fact he was wearing a flag pin when he tried to blow that cop.
***fin de siecle and ouevre in one blog post. I’m not only smarter than David Brooks, but I’m prettier too.
****I need to work on that metaphor. I’d better go read some Tom Friedman columns, he could have done something with that.

@asiangrrlMN: Sounds like you should hit up a Seattle winter. I have reverse Seasonal Affective Disorder. (I haz a negative SAD). When it’s cold and gloomy and rainy in the winter I get stoked, because it means fresh powder in the mountains. Doing 7th heaven at Stevens was almost a religous experience. Crystal taught me so much, and while I am in DC, I got so homesick watching videos of Baker on the TV.
Yutsano
@bago: I’d invite her to move out here but I think A) having the actual snow in winter so far would be dissatisfying and B) when it DOES snow in Seattle NO ONE knows what to do with it.

Dammit! I don’t want to lose myself in another game until Mass Effect A2. However, I have not heard a single bad thing about dragon age. Well, to me the tactical bit is a negative, but I might have to blow next weekend on it. The weekend after that is totally dedicated to New York.

I loved KOTOR, and it was the first game in…well, ever, that surprised me with its story line. I didn’t even care about my NPC party bickering with each other — it made them more realistic.
I’ve been playing Fallout 3 for a while now, having gotten it about a month or so ago — quite enjoyed it, although the wasteland gets old after a while.
The “better than KOTOR” endorsements are enough to get me to buy Dragon Age.
