General Winfield Stuck, The odd couple.
Yutsano, honeybee.
Email me a link to your one or two favorite pics on a photo site like Flickr (do not send the image itself please) and I will put up favorites in open threads. Send a short caption if you want one.
Bad Horse's Filly
General Winfield Stuck, The odd couple: So, do you think your parents will like me?
General Winfield Stuck
@Bad Horse’s Filly:
LOL. A stinging surprise maybe.
Thanks again Tim F.
Tim F.
@General Winfield Stuck: Of course. Even if the photo queue has grown fairly long, I could not pass up the entertaining implied narrative of those two pics.
The Grand Panjandrum
What? No link to the Jon Stewart spoof of Glenn Beck, yet? C’mon we’ve had it in every thread this morning. Must be at least one person left who hasn’t read any of the posts from this morning.
Those are some great photos and the justaposition is spot on.

@The Grand Panjandrum:
Or who still can’t find a version of the clip that’s viewable in the UK… (grinds molars)
El Cid
I would hereby like to apologize to Senator Jim DeMint, of South Carolina, whom I accused earlier of speaking on his own attempting to destroy the delicate process that the U.S. had announced in restoring the recognized government of Honduras.
It turns out that the U.S. State Department immediately rushed to back up Jim DeMint’s announcement that the U.S. just didn’t give a shit whether or not the coup government restored the elected President or not, that we’d recognize the new elections taking place under the watchful eyes of the coup government anyway, so right now the coup government is proceeding as if all it needs to do is change some people around, change the name of the government to “Government of National Reconciliation”, and have the already coup-supporting Congress vote okay.
So, now, there’s going to be an extremely volatile situation in Honduras, with civil disobedience cranking up and open defiance and condemnation of the elections, a lack of recognition throughout the hemisphere, and coup mongers in a variety of nations such as Paraguay (the President of Paraguay is leading rallies urging the people not to let those threatening a coup succeed), Nicaragua, Bolivia, or elsewhere.
And they know that all they have to do is make sure that, if they’re right wing coup mongers, to have some Constitutional excuses and then reach out to Acting Secretary of State Jim DeMint or any number of officials or public persons who claim to be authorized to define U.S. foreign policy aims, and as long as they’re right wing crazies, they’ll be backed up, and all will be well.
I assume that when this sort of chaotic undermining approach pays of with the next left wing coup against an elected conservative Latin or Caribbean government, our response will be much clearer and unified.

@R-Jud:
No YouTube version that haven’t been pulled down yet?
In any event, doesn’t The Daily Show air a day or so later in the UK? If so, you should be getting the episode tonight.

Great shots! The hummingbird is especially impressive.
R-Jud
@dmsilev:
Yes but I want it noooooooooooooooow.
Actually, it will probably go better with the beers ‘n’ curry night we’re planning here. I will try not to aspirate my vindaloo during the Beck impression.
Brick Oven Bill
El Cid speaks of a Honduran Coup. El Cid knows not of what he speaks.
Article 239 of the Honduran Constitution — No citizen that has already served as head of the Executive Branch can be President or Vice-President.
Whoever violates this law or proposes its reform, as well as those that support such violation directly or indirectly, will immediately cease in their functions and will be unable to hold any public office for a period of 10 years.
Article 239 was wisely included in the Honduran Constitution to prevent the rise of another Central American dictator, and attempt to maintain representative government. Zelaya clearly acted in violation of Article 239 by proposing to extend his rule, again:
Whoever violates this law or proposes its reform…
Obama is supporting Zelaya because he fears the precedent of the military stepping in to enforce a very clear Constitutional provision.
El Cid
@Brick Oven Bill: I do know very well of what I speak.
Article 239 in no way is applicable here. The Supreme Court, by the way, never cited that article in any of its decisions.
So, first, fuck you, you uninformed ignoramus.
Second, there is one, and only one, legal mechanism by which an elected President may be removed from power (outside of absence or incapacity or death) — and that’s under the shitty Constitution they have from the 1982 military dictatorship:
The elected President may be charged with a crime by the appropriate authority; he (or she) may be tried in a court of law; and if convicted of a serious crime, thus he is removed of his citizenship, and thus, can no longer be President.
That’s it. It doesn’t matter how many times jackasses scream “Article 239”. It doesn’t matter that not one legally competent authority cited that provision for Zelaya’s removal.
It doesn’t even matter that you’re completely, utterly ignorant of the fact that not one fucking word of Zelaya’s proposed referendum said anything of either extending his term or even actually in the referendum changing the Constitution.
Never mind the utterly absurd, disgusting fantasy that a fucking Constitution imposed by a military dictatorship in 1982 can permanently fucking forbid the people themselves from changing its own Constitution.
You don’t even understand the substance of my post, WHICH IS CRITICIZING THE ADMINISTRATION FOR NOT SUPPORTING THE RETURN OF THE SOLE CONSTITUTIONAL LEGITIMATE GOVERNMENT OF HONDURAS, so fuck off, you ignorant jackass.
Just Some Fuckhead
@El Cid: Dude, it’s Honduras. Who gives a fuck?
El Cid
@Just Some Fuckhead: Apparently a shit load of right wing crazies and the South Florida division of the nation’s bat-shittiest Cuban exiles.
Brick Oven Bill
You’re an ignorant jackass El Cid. You are probably stinky too. Fifteen syllables:
“Whoever violates this law or proposes its reform…”
Just Some Fuckhead
@El Cid: Those folks have a long history of worrying about things that don’t matter.
Just Some Fuckhead
Another good pic, Stuck. You cannot imagine how much I hate you now.
MikeJ
Watching TDS rerun. Now I’m hungry for appendix.
El Cid
@Brick Oven Bill: First: No one proposed any reform.
Show me where Zelaya or his proposed reform violated that provision of the Constitution.
Show me, you loudmouth jackass. C’mon. Show me. Go find it. Track it down. Quote it. Show me where the proposed referendum proposes violating Article 239.
C’mon loudmouth. C’mon, you racist, grandstanding jackass. Fucking show me. Go. Go get it.
Two: Tell me under what jurisdiction a Constitution may prevent the actual population from ever changing it?
R-Jud
@MikeJ:
Mmmmm… vestigial.
ellaesther
@The Grand Panjandrum: Hey GP! You should check out my blog today — I just posted some righteous anger that I think you’ll agree with.
And Tim F.? I’m not a photographer and don’t understand fancy cameras, but I know lovely when I see it — thank you so much for these threads! This was a great idea. What a nice break for the weary left-winger’s eyes!
Maude
@General Winfield Stuck: What lens did you use? I have a friend that’s done wildlife photos for years. I can’t take a photo to save my life.
PeakVT
Obama is supporting Zelaya because he fears the precedent of the military stepping in to enforce a very clear Constitutional provision.
Why do you hate the troops?
General Winfield Stuck
@Maude:
I use a Sigma 70 300 zoom/macro APO lens.

Paul Krugman once again tells me what I already believe to be true. Of course, at least part of the reason I already believe it to be true is that I regularly read Paul Krugman. Damn you, epistemology!
Mark S.
I don’t know if anyone posted this in another thread, but Kevin Drum posted an email from a soldier who was at the shooting at Ft. Hood. Well worth a read.
Brick Oven Bill
El Cid is irritable this morning. Therefore, I conclude that:
1. My assessment of his stinkiness was correct; and
2. He very well might be hung-over.
Zelaya proposed to change the Constitution, expanding the electorate (dumbing it down). The military’s case has since been scrubbed from the Internet, try to find it for yourself in the link below, but Zelaya’s case can still be found. It includes this provision:
“Renewal of confidence in those officials who have dignified their office, fulfilling it adequately for the citizens.”
I will translate this for you El Cid: “If I have done a good job in office, as determined by me, Article 239 is hereby suspended.”
This, my ignorant jackass, stinky friend, who is likely hung-over, is the information your requested. You are welcome.
El Cid
So, BOB, you cannot respond to my challenge. You cannot quote anything in Zelaya’s proposed referendum which would have conflicted with Article 239.
Thank you for playing. Too bad you’re simply too much of an uninformed jackass to admit your own failure.
Captain Goto
I’m waiting for my pic to come up in the queue, so I can send a BJ link to the frat brother who suggested the shot to me, as in “Hey ‘T’!! We made the big time, didn’t we?”
Oh, and fuck off, B. O. B.
El Cid
And, by the way, BOB — is it now your position that it’s okay to overthrow elected leaders based on what they might do in the future? I.e., had in the future (i.e., after Zelaya was out of office as his term expires in January) citizen Manuel Zelaya supported a citizens’ assembly to fundamentally change the Constitution (including those parts which the Constitution laughably ‘forbids’ the citizens themselves from doing), then it’s okay to have the army throw them out of office?
Nice to know.
Brick Oven Bill
Thanks for playing El Cid. Now take two aspirin and a shower.
Leelee for Obama
@Mark S.: Thanks for that. Like I said in another thread, we won’t know the truth for awhile. But, this first person account changes many incorrect perceptions that are being given a lot of attention. What Hasan did is indefensible-
This young man who sent the e-mail is very brave. He makes me proud.
Comrade Mary
Jesus. Christ.
Orlando, FL: Eight people shot in an office building. Two dead, most of those shot in very critical condition, according to MSNBC. A local news web link.
asiangrrlMN
@Comrade Mary: Let me guess. The shooter was male.
I am tired of this shit.
Mark S.
@Leelee for Obama:
You’re welcome. It is a nice antidote to the endless speculation on the news.
@Comrade Mary:
Jesus, this shit never ends.
Just Some Fuckhead
@asiangrrlMN:
I’m sensing a pattern here. Couple more mass shootings and I’m gonna totally nail it.
Just Some Fuckhead
@Captain Goto:
Or not. This could be just the sort of outlet that keeps BOB from shooting and killing a bunch of people.
AWJ
Second photo looks like a hover fly, not a honeybee.
Leelee for Obama
Just put on my local Orlando station and backtracked to 12:54, so I’ll try to keep updating.
Leelee for Obama
Looks like could be a disgruntled former employee. Local HS on lock-down (Edgewater HS)
Leelee for Obama
Male, former consultant who worked there, still at large at 1:01 PM
Leelee for Obama
Lake Highland Prep and ORMC on lock-down also.
fuddmain
@Leelee for Obama:
My office is not far from Lake Highland Prep. We’re keeping the doors locked, etc.
Suspects name is Jason Rodriguez, who was laid off a year and a half ago from Reynolds Smith & Hills, an architectural engineering firm.
My co-worker just said he’s been caught. Sure hope that’s true.
(Edgewater High is my alma mater, not that it matters)
Stay safe people.
Just Some Fuckhead
@fuddmain:
Somewhere, Lou Dobbs is choking on his own tongue. Personally, I blame the Minutemen for letting this guy get through.
Leelee for Obama
@fuddmain: I don’t live there ( I’m in Melbourne ), but I’ve been watching CFNews13-just watching news conferences starting now. Hope you are safe, keep the doors locked tight till they find this guy. Jesus, think maybe someone might think guns are a problem in bad economic times when passions are high and weaker people flip out?
fuddmain
@Leelee for Obama: They’re reporting now that he has been caught. The number of reported killed and wounded has varied from 1 dead, 5 injured to 2 dead, 17 injured. While horrific, that’s fortunate considering the circumstances and how long he was on the loose.
Thanks for the well wishes.
Leelee for Obama
They are saying he’s been caught. There was 6 victims, one fatality. It’s just awful, and I’m really getting so tired of hearing about these things.
General Winfield Stuck
Thanks for nice comments everybody.
Elie
Ahhh General!!!
That wonderful little couple from before — Miss Rufus and her little waspy friend…
Who are we to question their compatibility? The pull of the pheromones and the lure of excitingly new world views? Both drawn to the nectar of life — ahhh yes — is there really any better compatibility? He loves the view of her irridescent feathers from his compound eyes, she his slender waist and sensitive antennae…
sigh — I am always the romantic…
Yutsano
I do need to say just for the record that I’m not responsible for the taking of that photo per se. It was shot in Germany by a very excellent amateur photographer named Wolfgang whose full name escapes me. I’m just sharing it with y’all.
