On the Road is a weekday feature spotlighting reader photo submissions.
From the exotic to the familiar, whether you’re traveling or in your own backyard, we would love to see the world through your eyes.
Simp, Aramona Beach, New Zealand. [Aoteroa Aotearoa indeed – ed.]
Cay, Annecy, France.
Email me a link to your one or two favorite pics on a photo site like Flickr (do not send the image itself please) and I will put up favorites in open threads. Send a short caption if you want one.

I did a double-take on that top photo – at first glance, it really looks like the rock in the center is floating over the heads of the unsuspecting beach visitors.
Just Some Fuckhead
@Jennifer: Nah, it’s clearly levitating in front of the children. In fact, those freaky little telepaths are prolly just having some fun.

That top picture is where I want to be. My, of my does that look inviting.

It’s Aotearoa or “Land of the Long White Cloud”.

@Jennifer: Didn’t see it at first, but yeah…
Also, I want to be there, right now, not grading papers/procrastinanting the grading of papers

That picture on the bottom all but re-affirms my desire to visit Europe. Hopefully I can make it happen next year (I’ll be turning 25, so that would be my gift to myself).

@demkat620: I think those kids are eating lemons… I am green with envy. Also, I hope they are wearing sunblock.

What is your email?

Oh, you must, you must. It won’t be there much longer, you see, they are cleaning it.

Those of you NOLA eastward on the gulf coast, you are watching Ida, right? It’s still hurricane season, y’all…

Can get quite chilly down there.

Thanks for posting Tim.
Yes, they were literally bathed in sunscreen. The sun feels searing down there even when its not that hot.The size of the dune we were on was huge and *lot* of work to get up to.
Here is another shot of the twins wading in the water near the so-called “floating rock”
The rest of the beach album is here .
Cheers

Someone on this blog, convince me that Dragon Age’s gameplay isn’t just an RTS like C&C, because thats what the game trailers look like.

More nice pictures! Yay!
Jack had another excellent adventure, found him and Buddy, 2 miles away and having dog fun, Jack’s gps collar was in and out of range. Seems the base unit “remembers” the last location and keeps the arrow pointing to that spot. I hopped into the truck and hied down the road in that general direction and soon picked up the collar, cut across a field or two and spotted Buddy, then Jack.
Ordered a magnetic base antenna that should triple the commo range.

Most of those photos remind me so much of Australia……have to get back there this year! I miss the wide open spaces, wide open and unpeopled beaches, and the flora and fauna. Nice oystercatcher!
Corner Stone
@parksideq:
Being serious for a teeny bit – Go to Europe now. If you do not do it now then Life will stop you for a decade or more. And being 30-something in Europe is prolly OK, but then 40-something comes up. And Europe at 40-something is prolly good too, but then comes 50.
Point being – go the fuck right now. And then go again later. But don’t wait til it makes sense, you can afford it, it’s a good time, etc. Trust an internet stranger on this one.
cay
I agree with Corner Stone–even if you can only swing a week abroad it’s worth it. I once went to Paris for 5 days during my first spring break as a teacher and it was one of the most memorable trips of my life!
Corner Stone
@cay: I have a very good friend who went to Thailand for 16 days. Then the next year he went through South Africa (and Botswana, etc).
He planned to backpack thorugh Europe the next year. But then he got a serious girlfriend. And she couldn’t take the time off, nor afford the trip. So he didn’t go. And 5 years later he still has yet to go, and they are still together.
Nothing against her, she’s a fantastic person and I dig her.
Point being, he isn’t ever going to Europe.
Go now. Go the fuck now!
Yutsano
@Corner Stone: I’m seconding this advice, as I went to Germany when I was 25 (school sponsored trip but we still all paid our own ways) and it was one of the most fantastic experiences of my life. Of course this was back when the mark was still good as a currency. But yeah, GO GO GO GO GO!
