I’m struck by how much Lou Dobbs’ quitting to go “beyond my role” sounds like Sarah Palin‘s “choice is to take a stand and effect change” by quitting. And lest we forget, there are many who believe that the best way to fight Obamafascism is to go Galt.
This all makes me miss the days when people quit to spend more time with their families.
Elizabelle
True.
Although sometimes pleasure is to be had in the fact that they. just. quit.
soonergrunt
Well, don’t you know that it’s the Obama Administration and the Center for American Progress that forced this to happen!
Whiny bullshit claim
Ian
He is quitting because his ratings suck. Seems CNN is actually still a business at heart, not just a Republican Pr0n fluffer
4tehlulz
OT, but why should I be the only one to suffer.
All you needed to know about Orly but were afraid to ask.
Comrade Kevin
@4tehlulz: AAAAHH!!! Hopefully, some day, I will be able to forget that.
Wag
Lou Dobbs 2012!!!!!
JK
Like most bullies, Lou Dobbs is a fucking coward who couldn’t deal with people calling him out on his bullshit. Fox Business Network is probably putting the finishing touches on the set of his new program right now.
SpotWeld
Fact based news covreage was just too limiting.
And dealing with the well know liberal bias of reality, it just wasn’t acceptable any more.
I’m sure FOX will give him an outlet that will allow him to move beyond those boundaries.
GambitRF
Does this mean we should expect to see a Lou Dobbs Facebook page with nothing but bizarre screeds that don’t sound as if they were written by him whatsoever?
Roger Moore
@4tehlulz:
Fixt. That’s just plain disturbing. It also belongs on TMZ, not TPM.
AngusTheGodOfMeat
That does it. I’m quitting, to spend more time with my blogmates.
kwAwk
Now if only we could get Limbaugh, Beck and Hannity to really go Galt.
Hell, as long as we’re talking about wish lists, perhaps we could throw in Malkin too.

Lou Dobbs is tailor-made for Fox. I think it confused a lot of people about which network they were on so CNN had to let him go so as not to sully their “brand”. People kept calling them and asking where the huge waving flags and “we deceive, you believe” logo went. Now he can sink to his proper level on the Fatuous Opinions & Xenophobes channel.
Brick Oven Bill
I hope Lou replaces Greta. Greta sucks.
Cancel that. I hope Glenn replaces Greta, and then Lou replaces Glenn.
Greta is a terrible reporter and has a voice that drives me up the wall.
Greta should then go back to CNN, where nobody would have to ever hear from her again.

I’ve learned from the wingnuts recently that
Quiting = success. Yay Sarah!
Losing = Winning. NY-23 HoRah!
Now, if they tell me War = Peace, I’m good to go.
Elizabelle
I wish CNN had replaced Dobbs with someone other than John King.
He seems to be a Republican megaphone too (at least in his questions and approach). A la David Gregory, whom I can no longer watch.
Liked King and Gregory both much more when they were lowly White House correspondents.
I wish CNN had gone outside its (depleted and boring) ranks and snagged — you know — an actual journalist.
dmsilev
The Onion has an alternate theory of why Dobbs left.

Can Real Mur’kans please all go Galt? I’m tired of my tax dollars supporting pork projects in places like Alabama and Wyoming when they should be used for things like improving the NYC subway system or anti-terrorism efforts…..
RSA
I haven’t read Atlas Shrugged, but my impression was that there was some mystery in the book about where prominent people were disappearing to and why. Today’s conservatives don’t seem to get it that going Galt actually entails going away. Feel free! We’ll send out a search party as soon as we become desperate.

Of course, chief ball buyer and gay patch creator RSSF Commander EE sees opportunity…for CNN…
He sees the big picture.

We have to fight them over… nowhere so we don’t have to fight them here.

The nice thing about John King is that nobody pays any attention to him. He gives nondescript a whole new ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz …………..

As someone commented on the GOS, Dobbs left to spend more time with his xenophobia. And for his ilk, that is practicaly family.

New show ideas for Dobbs:
On Fox- a show called “El Patron” wherein a dozen illegal immigrants compete to be selected to mow his lawn. His signature line as he dismisses one contestant per night- “You’re deported!”
On Nickleodeon- a show called “Invasion!” wherein Dobbs uses the Dr. Suess book to explain why the nation of the Star Bellied Sneetches is under assault from a rising tide of treacherous, lazy Plain Bellied Sneetches.
On Telemundo- a reality show called “Gabacho Gigante”; Dobbs is dropped off at the Honduran/ Mexican border and must walk, hitchhike, and train-hop his way back into the United States.

@AngusTheGodOfMeat:
He used to crack me up with those “magic maps” though. Dragging and flinging bits of ‘Murka all around while muttering “oops, hmm that didn’t work”. It reminded me of a certain person in my household who gets that way with the remote late at night – “Hunh? Wha? wrong button, shit!”. Unintended comedic effect.
Scruffy McSnufflepuss
Let’s travel back in time and deport Lou Dobbs’ ancestors.
It’s the only way to be sure.
Jim Pharo
I thought he already left once to go to outer space (Space.com). Maybe that’s where he learned to fear aliens.
I recall when he left his very heartfelt protestations that he was done with “journalism” (Ha!) for good, and that he knew that space.com was going to be his life’s work.
Hope he enjoys life in the lunatic fringe. Good to see him relegated to the minor leagues…

I would so watch that! Think Michael Douglas in “The Game”…

Surely, the world that has rejected and exploited the Rational Man will soon find itself reeling and unable to function without the guidance of Lou Dobbs’ television show and Sarah Palin as governor of Alaska
Reason60
I think the only thing funnier than Dobbs is to watch the Bill O’Reillys and Patrick Buchanans of the world talking about how these
IrishMexican immigrants are lazy drunken bastards who live in shantys, have 14 children each, drive down wages, are violent criminals and will never, ever adapt to our civilized ways.gnomedad
It is entirely possible that she will be adequately prepared for this task.

Beck. Hannity. O’Reilly. And batting cleanup, Lou Dobbs. Move over Dallas Cowboys, there’s a new ‘Murica’s team.
Fox News, for ‘Muricans, by ‘Muricans.

Dammit, wrong thread.

Hey, even that idiot Carrie Prejean threatened to go Galt. Video is hilarious – she threatens to walk off Larry King.
If that’s the best the rightwing can do for a spokesmodel, that’s kind of sad.

There does seem to be a gathering trend of wingnuts walking off various TV sets. Pray to FSM that it continues.

Keith and Maddow are the only 2 cable news shows worth watching. That Dobbs left CNN has as much meaning as the Washington Times ownership being passed from Moonie founder to his sons. Nada. Anyone with a brain tuned out CNN during the lead up to the Bush years.

Well, duh. What if they went away and nobody noticed?

This whole Going Galt thing has me thinking of the people on the B Ark in Douglas Adams’ “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”.
Perhaps Ayn Rand’s fundamental error was in dividing humanity into only two groups.
Blurkee
I think they should all move on to that wonderful town that so many migrate to these days: “Further Endeavors”.
brantl
Ayn Rand’s fundamental error was being Ayn Rand. If you’d ever seen an interview of her, you’d know what I mean. The ugliness of her soul outstripped the ugliness of her face and body, and she was bone-deep ugly that way, too.
The Populist
Her greed and selfishness were the biggest turn off when I’d see interviews.
A foreign born lady who thought that America should be more selfish and greedy than the rest of the world. No rules, no limits, just plain naked greed.
Sad.

I really hope that more of these noxious parasites do go Galt. We don’t need em and most of their contributions cause more harm than good.

@Elizabelle:
I keep thinking King is some kind of twig on the Bush family tree, but his Wikipedia entry says he was born in Dorchester, so it’s not by birth. Anybody know who he’s married to? All it says on the Wik is that he ‘converted to Judaism’, which might mean ‘married a neocon’ but I may just be too tinfoil here.
AngusTheGodOfMeat
@licensed to kill time:
I know. Half the time he would basically screw up the map-o-rama thing and end up just gesturing all the maplets off the screen while doing some cover talk.
Hilarious stuff. If he weren’t taking it so seriously.
He looked like a guy trying to put up wallpaper for the first time and ending up with the glue-soaked sheet wrapped around himself. All he needed was Oliver Hardy to complete the effect.

@brantl:
A recent edition of the New Yorker features a devastatingly dismissive appraisal of Rand and her little band of acolytes as it deals with two new biographies of the Queen of Objectivism. The author situates the world of the novels as somewhere between Scientology and the Wizard of Oz.
I particularly enjoyed the description of Rand bitch slapping Nathan Branden, who had a long affair with Rand, when he fessed up that he was ditching her for a younger woman.
This morning, I was listening to crazy speculation that Dobbs might run for president as a Dobbs/Palin ticket. Twice the crazy and all the quittin’.

@RSA:
These bozos have going Galt conflated with their equally hilarious misinterpretation of teh Rapture, by which they believe God will magically whisk all the “bad” people to Hell.

We’d all be far more fortunate if today’s brand of Republican all went Galt (how would we know?) but as I understand it and as first put forth by Herr und Frau Instaputz, “going Galt” basically meant stiffing the Applebee’s waitress–leaving a note “thanking” her for voting for Obama instead of a tip.
Let’s all sing together: “We’re freeeee to be assholes, for the next…four…yearrrrrs!” Snoopy dance optional.
Which, of course, requires believing they weren’t assholes the previous eight.
