Just got this about how 1990s Clinton hate is still hitting us:
You know how that guy who killed those cops in Seattle had been pardoned by Huckabee for the rape of some teenage girl in Arkansas in the 1980s? Turns out that Huckabee pardoned the rapist because he’d had become a cause celebre among right-wing Clinton haters — the girl he raped was distantly related to Clinton and the wingnuts thought Clinton gave him a long sentence to punish him for hurting a family member. They were also claiming Clinton sent some hit squad to cut the dude’s junk off. No, really, check this out:

Click on the rhino picture, go the the next pic in that set, the one of the elephant, and look at that sky! Van Gogh got locked up for seeing skies like that.

That anhinga looks like an aging punk rocker, mohawk gone grey.
South Park has ruined me; all I can think of thanks to the title is how high they’d get cheesing with rhino spray. Those Tanzania pics make a good set; I like the lion in the grass a lot, too.

The mustache of understanding is in fine form today.
Yeah, we’ve just been wonderful trying to teach those benighted arabs with the modernity thing.

Let’s keep taxpayer money from going to Uganda if they pass the proposed law to execute anyone ‘caught’ being gay, and to imprison people who refuse to turn gay people in to the police.

@MikeJ: Look closer at the “sky”.
jnfr
I think what you see behind the elephant in that picture is actually bushes going up a hillside, not the sky. Gorgeous anyway.

@jnfr:
I think the “crater” in the photo caption confirms this. :)

@neff: That was actually another famous Huck pardon..
The pictures are great. I’m in awe at the photos that the Balloon Juicers take.
inkadu
@neff: NPR mentioned that Huckabee pardoned him, but not the Clinton connection.
It’s really stuff like this that makes me despise the news media. Has anyone ever asked, “So, Huck, about that pardon…”
Hey, but he’s tough on crime and hates teh gay.
MikeJ
@jeffreyw: Too early in the day to seeing skies like that.
Still great shots.

@neff:
Not only that, but Huckabee tried to deny his role in pushing for Dumond’s parole.
How sick are the wingnuts? They pretended that a rapist with rap sheet extending for decades was framed, and that one of his victims was a liar, (and that he didn’t really kill anyone once he was freed), all because his surviving victim happened to be related to Bill Clinton.
And Huckabee was an active participant in it.
Phoenix Woman
Speaking of selective wingnut poutrage, isn’t it interesting that the same folk who got all outraged over Newsweek’s running a photo for which Sarah Palin posed of her own free will and as a legal adult, are silent as the tomb about the actual (and grotesque) sexist insults flung at Mary Landrieu?

Gorgeous pictures. Man, I need these photo threads. Really helps the blood pressure.

Great photo, Jeff. I saw the line of pink (flamingoes) in the distance, and I immediately thought, “Hey, if that’s the Ngorongoro Crater, I’ve been there!”
Warren Terra
neff (and inkadu): You’re conflating two Huckabee pardons: one of the suspect in Sunday’s atrocity (and — though there may have been mental health issues or other reasons that responsible officials should have recognized as calling for his detention — it seems like his life sentence for a burglary committed as a minor was genuinely excessive, and so perhaps Huckabee was not wrong to give him clemency, despite yesterday’s events).
The serial rapist and murderer that Huckabee pardoned in defiance of his genuinely awful crimes and despite that additional evidence against him, a truly awful case that did not get a fraction of the attention it deserved in the media, was a different person entirely, one Wayne DuMond:

Great photo fundmain.. Clear focus and nice background;/bokeh
If I was going to Africa, the Ngorongoro Crater would be were. Stunning wildlife.. Excellent image of a great beast Jeff.

Coming up next: wingnut shock and horror over all those mean ol’ leftists “using this tragedy for political gain.”
Mark my words.
inkadu
@Warren Terra: Read the comments in the link you sent about Clemmons. It seems it was a lot more than a single robbery as a teenager… and really odd for a Republican in a Western state to pardon…
You know, you get so used to Republicans governors executing innocent peple that when they release a real criminal, its a real puzzler.
Hey, just called my local community health center. $80 per visit for anything — including behavioral health. And this is supposed to be the bargain-basement of health care. Hope the state gets my insurance app approved soon.
inkadu
@Phoenix Woman: What did you make of that Newsweek cover? I read the description of it and was about to be scandalized, but when I saw it, I shrugged. She’s not a serious politician, and that’s newsweeks take on it, and that’s what that picture portrays. It wasn’t a scandalous photo on the merits of the photo, which is what I thought given the hubbub.

Come on, Ball Juicers, it’s OK to talk about the leaked global warming fixer e-mails. The Guardian has admitted the damage they’ve done, as have the New York Times, USN&WR, and other lefty pubs around the world.
Why so afraid that you can’t even mention it here in the Echo Chamber?
For a bunch who fancy themselves such supporters of Science, you all seem to have an aversion to Knowledge.
