Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

🎶 Those boots were made for mockin’ 🎵

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

When do the post office & the dmv weigh in on the wuhan virus?

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

No one could have predicted…

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

The words do not have to be perfect.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

“Squeaker” McCarthy

By the way, may I say, I kicked ass on NaNoWriMo this year, despite being brutally sick (which I still am).

Also, anybody have anything good happen lately? I need a pick-me-up.

I use an M4A1 with ACOG scope & FMJ penetrators. My secondary is the AT-4 rocket. My perks are Bling (formerly Sleight-Of-Hand; I’m aiming for M4A1 mastery, hence FMJ), Lightweight, & Steady Aim Pro.

Ok, hasn’t happened yet but will happen in two days: We’re going to see The Swell Season! (The folks from Once, for those who are ill-informed).

We’ve seen them before and honestly, in a lifetime of concert-going, they were one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Excellent, excellent musicians, terrific performers (as most former buskers are, I find), and just so thrilled to be doing what they do.

But their songs do lean toward the melancholy! So I’ll leave you with this, the silly one: Broken Hearted Hoover Fixer Sucker Guy

Congrats on the writing (I could never, in a million years, do that), and I’m sorry you’re still so ill!

Called Tracfone to ask where the replacement for the new phone was, the one they promised to send me after talking to them for 2 hours last week trying to get the phone to work. They said they have no record of sending me a new phone, but would be happy to help me get it working. 2 hours later they discovered that my new cell phone would not work, and they would need to send me a new one. I explained that we knew a week ago that the phone was bad, and that they had just spent another 2 hours getting to where we were a week ago. I further explained why I found that troublesome. They thanked me for being a valuable customer and for choosing Tracfone to be my cellular provider and how very sorry they were.

    @asiangrrlMN:

My house is on a small cliff over the ocean, and flinging food to the gulls is a morning ritual. Old tortillas fly just like frisbees and have excellent aerobatic properties. Old hamburger buns look just like little UFO’s as they spin through the air. Old bread is disappointing, however – it tends to skew about wildly and fall short of the beach. I’m telling you this in case you ever have to chose between tortillas, hamburger buns or old bread in feeding gulls.

Also, I saw a seal surfing in the waves today who dove and came up with a fish in his mouth – that was pretty cool.

I am feeling more than a little depressed. Don’t know if this seasonal affective disorder, the usual holiday suckage, our political and media cesspool, or how down on myself I am lately (due to financial stupidity which overtook me when I lived with the ex and paid for everything but never got my name put on the house or anything else). I’d like to discuss it with my John, but he’s going through some major stuff with his daughter and I hate to pile on.

I won’t be around much until later this evening, but if you could all be as entertaining as possible until I get done with my financial aid night presentation later tonight, I would appreciate it. I could use a few of those famous BJ comedians to provide me with the laughs I need to snap out of it a little bit.

Though I have used Once as an object lesson in explaining to my 10 year old son that the American public is kind of weird about language. That he needs to be polite, sure, but that that he needs to understand that our culture is just kind of weird.

It’s also annoying as hell that I can’t respec my guys. I think I’d mix up the party more if I didn’t worry about coming back to Morrigan or Wynn and find a total crap build in my wake.

I think there is a lot of plot stuff for both sides to the dwarves, common and royalty, once you get back to Orzimmar. Like I said I briefly did both when trying out characters.

My party consists of Sten and Alistair backing up my rogue and Morrigan feated with CC spells. She is surprisingly effective if you don’t mind switching between her and other party members in a fight.

@Corner Stone: I don’t have a problem with somebody looking at this but good god, the way these people are acting like this is the worst thing ever kills me.

They had no time to do due diligence in the run up to Iraq. No time to investigate who leaked Valerie Plames name but this they have endless hours for this.

    It’s bullshit.

I’m with ya’. I have not been posting anything of late, anywhere on the net. Too busy with business, too busy with keeping things going and tiring of the bullcrap I see on forums with the mouthbreathers telling the rest of us how Obama is the reason we are falling apart. Gee, not racism right wingers? I am not particularly a fan of Obama’s leadership but you know? I am willing to give him time to show me what he can do and barely a year is NOT the reason why the mess is what it is.

If these jacaklopes would stop for a minute and use the brains they claim that GOD gave them maybe they’d realize the mess would be bigger if it wasn’t for some things Obama did at the beginning of his presidency.

The next retard who tells me that the stimulus failed better show me their crystal ball…stimulus doesn’t show up in the indicators for up to a year or more. If the right would wake up and realize that it’s not foolish to spend on infrastructure and shore up the economy until things level out that would be great. Problem is these idiots do not think. They won’t think. If we did what McCain and the right most certainly would have done in Obama’s place (NOTHING) then we’d all be fucked worse than anything.

If you have proof of the stimulus failing, show me with concrete proof. Not Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh’s histronics…PROOF!

    @Zifnab:

This is probably where I’ll make you cry…did you download the premium content (there’s two pieces for sale) or did you pre-order the game (in which case it came with it)?

If either one is the case, soldier’s peak is the very top part of the world map (should be a yellow icon). You get the quest to go there from some dude in your camp early on.

Like I said it’s a great place to visit early in the game but I don’t wanna spoil it.

I might also add had the right not gotten us into dumb wars, spent all of Clinton’s surplus and given rich people generous tax breaks maybe there wouldn’t be the big mess we are seeing now.

Yeppers, it’s all Obama’s fault that 8+ years of Republican rule has done the damage we are seeing now.

Republicans, you like sports right? You tell me that we don’t need regulation yet why not ditch all rules and refs at any sporting event? I mean, c’mon, we can trust the players to do the right thing and play honestly, RIGHT?

Idiots each and every one of them.

Yeah, I’ve met that dude. I’m not that interested in paying more after I shelled out $50 for the game.

I’m not very far along in the game, but I was wondering what everybody else uses as the makeup of their party. I read someone say you should have two mages, one for healing and one for kicking butt. I’m at a part where I had to leave my rogue at home, and I’m not really missing her. Those locked chests generally don’t have anything too exciting, as far as I can tell.

Something good? Well, just more than 2 years after my wife died and after 3 bouts with cancer, I am cancer-free and healthy, and I have a new woman friend. She lives 6000 miles away, but life is better than it has been for some time. Glorioski.

@DZ: Aw, that’s heartwarming. Congrats on being cancer-free and the new woman friend. Distance is less problematic these days with all our modes of transportation. Thanks for sharing!

@smiley: What a sweet pic. Now, let’s see how it really means Obama is indoctrinating our children or something.

Regarding the advertisements on this site.

Typically I use adblocking software and for this I apologize. Recently I unblocked advertisements for this site and was surprised to see some pretty racy ads. I can forgive the constant barrage of Sarah Palin ads but today there was a large sidebar ad with a girl in lingerie and the caption “See My Ex-girlfriend Naked!”

Didn’t you just have a fundraiser? Are times really this lean at BJ World HQ?

    @Mark S.:

If you can spare the gold, I just make a ton of potions with one mage so I can have some extra melee power. As for the premium content, so far it’s been worth it to add on to the game. I pre-ordered so the content came with the game.

I keep my rogue along since the XP for trap disarming and chest popping is handy and since i have the extra fire power. The two rogues I have met in game so far (the assassin and the bard) tend to be useless when it comes to lockpicking unless you manage them when levelling up.

A lot of people who ignorantly blame Obama and Reid for things could begin their civics education with this Yglesias essay:

Dead thread, I know. My ultimate party on first play through (70 hours, Dalish rogue) was Wynne, Morrigan and Oghren. CC and Healer made most fights quite manageable. And yes, you get used to micromanaging every damned move to get the best out of them. Combined with my rogue sneaking around trapping the bejesus out of everything before bringing up the rest of the party and opening a Sneak Attack can of whoopass on the biggest baddy.

Bought the CE, so I got the Stone Prisoner DLC along with it. Splurged on the Soldier’s Peak DLC rather late in that play through, so it was of limited benefit. Now about 6 hours into second play through (Elvish Magi – just leaving Lothering) and plan to hit SP in the morning before any of the other main plot. I expect the benefit will be much greater this early. Let me just say, I heart Fireball. That is all.
