Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Not all heroes wear capes.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

🎶 Those boots were made for mockin’ 🎵

It’s the corruption, stupid.

Everybody saw this coming.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

If you are still in the GOP, you are an extremist.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

Come on, man.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

You can’t love your country only when you win.

The GOP couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Let us savor the impending downfall of lawless scoundrels who richly deserve the trouble barreling their way.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

According to TPM, it isn’t just bitches and hoes for the C-Street Gangstas:

Former Congressman (and C Streeter) Chip Pickering is reportedly under police investigation for his involvement in a brawl with a rival youth league soccer coach.

Apparently, police were called to Liberty Park in Madison, Mississippi, after Pickering and coach Christopher Hester came to blows when Pickering confronted Hester over the treatment of Pickering’s son.

The kicker? Hester claims he was wearing a neck brace at the time of the incident.

Thug life. I wonder if they have prison tats and flash gang signs?

For this crowd, “turning the other cheek” means making sure they get a shot at the other side of the guy’s head they’re pummeling.

We both love that movie, and I was thinking just the other day it was about time to watch it again.

I still have my rescue story to send in, John Cole, man I can’t believe what a successful publisher you now are. Please stay well.

He could find that it means something altogether different in prison.

I’ve refereed competitive-level youth soccer for many years, and used to coach it as well. The better coaches keep their head about how they treat referees and their own players, but there are an inevitable, unfortunate percentage of idiots and assholes who take as their models the too-often atrociously behaved pointy football and basketball coaches seen on TV all the time. We refs call these kinds of coaches “Stanley Screamers”.

These kinds of men shouldn’t be allowed within a mile of coaching kids. As a ref, I have to deal with them all too often, and usually I can keep a lid on them without throwing them out, but not always.

BTW, which ones are “Stanley Screamer” assholes doesn’t really have much to do with politics, other than the fact that a fair number of wingers are Stanley Screamer asshole personalities. But usually, national political inclinations DO stay out of youth sports, fortunately. Soccer club politics are vicious enough.

Can’t automatically side against the Republican here since these kiddie coaches are usually saddled with their own set of personality issues.

Not always refs. I recall covering a h.s. baseball game where a parent thought the ump made a bad call. He berated the ump for several innings until the ump turned around and threw him out of the stands. Real a*hole. This was a small school, too, so it was doubly uncomfortable.

    Dickcember is just beginning.

The Scott County court clerk confirms a felony complaint has been filed against former Missouri House Speaker Rod Jetton for an incident that allegedly took place Nov. 15 in Sikeston, Mo. […]

The complaint alleges Jetton “recklessly caused serious physical injury to ——- by hitting her on the head, and choking her resulting in unconsciousness and the loss of the function of part of her body.”

People like Pickering are also the ones who rail against “political correctness” and the “everyone wins, they all get a trophy” approach to children’s sports. Maybe the coach simply said to Pickering that his kid just wasn’t good enough.

His political life was blown to hell when his extra marital relationship with one of the Creekmore girls went public. I was working for the Creekmore’s (Cellular South, etc.) at the time that the affair was still covert.

Let’s just say that they have a much higher standard for their employees than their children.

    Enjoy.

I heard about this from my buddy who was at the game in Madison, and yes, the dude did have a neck brace on. He said it was one of those funny ass fights where they were taking these big ole round-house kind of swings at each other, and then they ended up rolling around on the ground kind of pinching and puffing. Real fights are pretty funny unless one of the guys actually knows what he’s doing, then they can be pretty brutal. This wasn’t one of those times. He did say the coach was a real jackass with his players, so the “stanley Screemer” theory may have some merit. And Chip Pickering is pretty much a joke in Mississippi.
