Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

Prediction: the GOP will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

You can’t love your country only when you win.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Let’s finish the job.

Take your GOP plan out of the witness protection program.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

I like you, you’re my kind of trouble.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

A lot of Dems talk about what the media tells them to talk about. Not helpful.

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

The GOP couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

reminds me of the cat we had when I was a kid. He eventually adopted another family and we rarely saw him. But the last time I saw him he was 18 or so, had only 3 working legs and one ear. He was stalking a bird.

My cat brought me a bird’s head the other day. It was so neatly done I had a hard time believing there was ever a body attached to it.

She left it in the kitchen for me.

    OT (from Daily Kos)
Health care bill option: lowering buy-in age for medicare

    Medicare-Buy-In-Gaining-Traction-in-Public-Option-Negotiations at Daily KOs
Many commenters like it because it established the principle
of lowering the buy-in age, so could be done again.

Which would actually be GREAT for US businesses!
(See: GM locating in US vs Canada)

This was in Baucus’s paper from fall 2008 that was sensible.
Then it disappears for a year and now it is back.

Time to re-read that paper and see what else is likely to return.

Of course, it only temporarily follows Obama’s dictum of
“No change to your present coverage” for as long as employers do not realize they can fob off insurance of expensive older workers to that option.

Which would actually be GREAT for US businesses!

Give ’em a mystery object to stalk (feather, string, finger, toe, etc.) and they’re enthusiastic.

Show the whole thing and let them play with it on their own, and it becomes “Eh, how boring!”

My niece had a big, husky, gray and black striped cat named Booger. Booger offed a minimum of a bird a day, all neatly laid out on the deck. His best act was leaping on the kitchen counter next to the stove and batting sizzling sausage out of the fryin pan. My sister said old Boog was so quick he never got a grease spatter on his fur!

Ninja Cat is actually called Moire. And he’s Japanese. So those are gorgeous Japanese floors.

Sunset, autumn leaves, Moire. I steeped it in autumn. This photo was taken in the middle of May is 11. Now that it has dropped all the other leaves as the background of the photograph is I feel lonely.

Go here for their current TV spots. The one I saw was the third one down, “Obama’s Socialism”. It’s comically bad (and so is the video compression), but it’s also one of the most blatantly racist bits of political propaganda I’ve ever seen.

Molly periodically flees in terror from that which she is attacking/disembowelling. What it is that the feather or stick did that so suddenly alarmed her is a complete mystery, but then she’s a cat. Cats see and experience things that are in a universe with which we mere mortals have no contact.

What you have with the Peek-a-boo stuff is prey behavior.

It doesn’t matter if it’s an Archie McPhee nun with sparks coming out of her mouth. If it acts like prey, a cat will investigate. (I love the part where the cat freezes when the feather can “see” them.)

Now, a hand holding out a feather? Boooooooooooooring.

When we had little kids (boys), we marked the moment when they were “smarter than a cat” — that is, when, after finding out it was just a hand holding a feather, they weren’t fooled a second time into thinking it was something interesting. It’s identical to the moment when the game of peek-a-boo doesn’t work any more.

That’s what’s wrong. Who has floors that look like that when they have cats/dogs/kids/people/anything walking around on them?

It’s unnatural and I could hardly see the cat for not being able to tear my eyes away from the floor.

Ya know, the cat knows its a spoof but is trying to make the feather more interesting — hoping against hope that when he runs up its not the same ol same ol fake out…

He has a darling face and I love those big dilated pupils they get when they are turned on by hunting…

When one of my cats Buddy, really catches a mouse or vole, I can tell even without looking at him by the sound he makes playing with it…totally intense and focused with complete body involvement… its unmistakeable…

Cats are amazing creatures from the littlest house cat to the biggest Bengal Tiger — their behavior is so similar and totally evocative of CAT…not matter how big or fierce…

    I love em
