I used that twitter thing to mention this, but if you missed Hardball tonight, you missed a gem when Chris Matthews credited Luke Russert with digging up the Lieberman video from three months ago in which he supported the medicare buy-in.

That, of course, was the product of Greg Sargent’s labors, and not Luke Russert. In fairness to Luke, he actually credited Sargent.

    It’s over. No HCR. Sherrod Brown all but admitted it just now. And he looked like he’s just been through 12 rounds with Joe Frazier. It’s shit and we have to eat it. We get nothing but a big prezzie for the insurance companies. I’m done. My party sucks and I have no faith in any of them any more. Sherrod Brown just depressed me beyond any depression I’ve ever had. For real. He was desperately begging people like me to keep the faith but his desperation tells me there is nothing to keep faith in. They want to be losers, every one of them. I hope they all die horrible lingering painful deaths, alone and unloved. And yes, I’m having a goddam tantrum. It’s my turn to be a WATB for once. After forty years of this shit, I believe I’m entitled.

    I like Sherrod Brown. He really tried his best for HRC.

    I don’t think Matthews would understand this, even if you explained it to him. And I’m not being snarky.

    Matthews likely does not see reporting done by bloggers as actual “reporting” — rather, they are one of many sources of information for a real Reporter. Like an anonymous tipster.

    These health insurance reforms and affordability credits have been strengthened in Senator Reid’s Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and will provide even greater relief for those 55-65 years old. Any inclusion of a Medicare buy-in for that same age group would be duplicative of what is already in the bill, would put the government on the hook for billions of additional dollars, and would potentially threaten the solvency of Medicare, which is already in a perilous state. The Senator also has concerns that this provision would result in cost-shifting that would drive up premiums for others, including those with employer-based coverage.

    Translation: The Bill I’m threatening to filibuster already helps out Old Fucks enough. And I’m sure it’ll cost more despite lacking a CBO score. Get a fuckin’ job, grandma.

    That Matthews would even mention who found the video, even though he was wrong, suggests that Luke Russert has his own fan base, his own reputation as a reporter, his own future as a fixture in the NBC firm-ma-ment even though he has done nothing and really is nobody outside the constellation that remains only as a receding shadow on the retinas of those who remember his father. Matthews still has Russert glimmerance flaashbacks which paralyze his brain.

    I think it is a case of not being willing to take out the sledgehammers and act as though this counts for more than their fucking colleagiality. And since it doesn’t I cannot understand how it is they’d begin to expect someone like me to continue to give a shit about their future.

    Maybe it will come to pass that they’ll do something that matters beyond giving away the store to HealthInc. I have not yet made irrevocable cutting of ties, but I have little reason to think change for the better is in the offing.
