Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

I’m starting to think Jesus may have made a mistake saving people with no questions asked.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

I’m more christian than these people and i’m an atheist.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

After dobbs, women are no longer free.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

The fundamental promise of conservatism all over the world is a return to an idealized past that never existed.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

The Supreme Court cannot be allowed to become the ultimate, unaccountable arbiter of everything.

Wake up. Grow up. Get in the fight.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

“I was told there would be no fact checking.”

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

The real work of an opposition party is to hold the people in power accountable.

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

Our messy unity will be our strength.

    Yay! I love that guy.

Other good news: Ezra’s on Colbert tonight. That should wipe the taste of Erick son of Erick out of my brain.

Great news. I like his blog a lot. Especially the Mad Men blogging. Not everything or everyone there is my cup of tea, but TNC’s is one of the few blogs I still check out every.single.day.

Edited to add: I have learned more about other races and religions there than I learned anywhere or from anyone else.

“…and you tell me you have some P.E. Teacher directing this, well that just makes me want to puke all over your head, sir! Give me a chance to tell the Bard’s tale, and I give you my word on humble knee whence you shall not say it wasn’t e’er to be.”
    “Jerry? You cool with this?”
“Sure, let the little fruit do it.”
    “Huzzah!”

    very cool, for realsies.

    Well, damn, good on him.

No need for him to feel bad about being a college dropout. He can always go back, and hell, he’s writing for the Atlantic, so who the fuck cares what he dropped out of? I have a college degree. World-class school, even. Do I have a column at the Atlantic? No. So fuck my degree. It has nothing to do with what I do for a living or my writing ability.

A good mind can’t be kept down no matter what pieces of paper are attached to it, or not.

    @The Moar You Know:

We perpetual undergrads feel that lack of degree like an albatross around our necks almost constantly, and the accomplishments of others is always mirrored in sharp relief by our perceived ignorance. My best friend’s girlfriend has a Masters, but tells me that she’s intimidated by the conversations that he and I have with each other. I get where TNC’s coming from.

    Great job, Neshi!

BTW, when 14 guys rig a bus with explosives, which then go off prematurely, killing them all… haven’t they pretty much moved beyond the “suspects” level of terror scrutiny, CNN?

TNC won’t let us comment on this great news over at The Atlantic, so I’m grateful to you, John Cole, for making your own space available. Big congrats to TNC. And John, you have once again proved your menschdom (menschhood? menschness?) and I hope TNC reads Balloon-Juice and gets all embarrassed over how much he is admired over in these parts.

Kudos, congrats, huzzahs, hoorays and good-onyas to Mr. Coates!!

I read his work daily, comment occasionally, and consider his to be one of the four blogs that I must read more than once daily (Ezra, Benen, and some other guy with a dog, a cat, a neti-pot and an attitude would be the others).

I got a promotion today as well-Retail Manager. Considering seven months ago, I was on the floor in a fetal position having lost my job with a local Bank after 10 plus yrs. Found this retail job and just thanked God I was making some money and getting full health care benefits. The pay is not even close to what I was making but, the schedule works with my schooling (returning back to prepare for Nursing school), my work associates are pretty great, and I’m networking and making contacts for other job opportunities. Congrats to TNC and me!

    Huzzah for TNC!

OK, I’m either as thick as a brick, or as blind as a bat. What did he get promoted to? Can anybody clue me in? All I saw was a very vague reference on the closed thread which John linked to. Inquiring minds want to know.

Great news. More TNC is a good in itself, and may shrink the Atlantic’s page count available to some over there who shall remain nameless on this glorious day who do not put their bully pulpit to the good uses Coates does.

He and Fallows are the reasons to go to the Atlantic (and I kind of like Corby Kummer’s food stuff, I must confess). May their tribe ever increase.
