Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

The GOP couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

Infrastructure week. at last.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

It’s time for the GOP to dust off that post-2012 autopsy, completely ignore it, and light the party on fire again.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

Today’s GOP: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

If you’re pissed about Biden’s speech, he was talking about you.

I’d really like Sullivan to explain how Reason magazine has been functionally any different from FNC the past few months regarding health care reform (or, for that matter, any number of issues). Reason has been right there with Fox with the take our country back rhetoric, the fluffing of the tea partiers (including live coverage and nausea inducing videos with the Fonzi of Freedom Nick Gillespie), and their “expert” on Health Care reform, Suderman, got his start at… FreedomWorks.

The Koch Foundation and other Wingnut Welfare dispensers are getting what they want from Reason- it is just a different arm of the same PR machine that Fox belongs to, and Sullivan should know that by now.

I don’t know much about reason itself, but from the things I hear they are simply no different from any other libertarian I regularly interact with. That is that they are republicans, but republicans fucked up and they can’t admit they were wrong. That and saying you don’t belong to a party is the new fad.

Sullivan does not respond and is currently beaver busy digging Obamas political grave in Potters Field when Obama meets his Waterloo, Dien Bien Phu, and Pearl Harbor because he didn’t decommission that Killer Robot he promised to.

The Potters Field which lies beside the Village Potemkin within the great state of Masshole Choossits.

I think it is because Sullivan is desperate to find a trace of rational conservatism somewhere…anywhere. The problem with this is that the only nominally rational conservative left in this country is the one staring back at him from his mirror.

This was mentioned in an earlier thread, but some idiot was quoted by either the NYT or WaPo saying he’d “never seen the country this divided, and I grew up in the ’60s, with Vietnam.”

People like that need to be forced to go back and take a remedial history class, because they haven’t got a f**king clue. As I said earlier, those police dogs and tear gas canisters and National Guard bullets didn’t just up and attack the blacks, browns and DFHs by themselves in Selma, Chicago and Kent State.

This country really isn’t that divided right now, unless you count the 20-30 percent who watch FNC and listen to Beck and Limbaugh as “this country.”

F**k these people are stupid. I am praying to whatever superior powers there may be that Coakley walks with this thing in a landslide just so these people can drink a 64-ounce 7-11 cup of STFU. If she loses, I will disconnect from politics for the rest of the month, at least. I don’t know what I’ll do without my Juice fix, but i’ll have to manage, maybe only visit during open threads and pet rescue posts.

For those morons on the right, they are just idiots who buy into the idea that one day they, too, will be rich and are just looking out for those who have money.

If Coakley wins, I still have faith that people see through the nonsense that is this teabag movement. If she loses by just a hair, I see it as a message to Brown that he really has no agenda.

Now if he somehow wins by 5-10 points, I will just say congrats Massachusetts…you voted a guy in because a baseball player told you to.

Why is Sully still writing for The Atlantic? Did something–anything–happen that would have forced him to resign? I’m sure it will, so why doesn’t he simply resign right now to get it over with.

I don’t usually read Reason, so perhaps I missed something, but maybe someone else has and can answer: have they been writing about HSA/MSA-style plans? Outside of simply giving vouchers to use in the current insurance market, it seems to be the only alternative to anything like what the Democrats are proposing. (I know that’s a fairly big group of suggested policies.) If not, why not? It’s not exactly a new idea. Expansion of them was included in the Medicare Part D bill. Milton Friedman was taking about the idea decades ago. I’m skeptical if it would work as a primary policy, but perhaps it could do some good as part of an integrated package. And if they weren’t talking about that or some other solution, what was the magazine’s contribution? Surely they can’t defend the system as is.

@arguingwithsignposts: I agree with you here. I am not an everyday commenter (I just don’t have that kind of time, as much as I would like to) but I am constantly checking the six or seven blogs I regularly visit, and basically since November things have just gotten crazy as a cut snake no matter what the political story. I do agree that all this pales in comparison to the political climate of 1968 or right before the secession, BUT the populist hate lately on display make a beggar of belief, and all the modern conveniences we have just makes it all seems so very PRESENT in our lives. I roam between several offices everyday here in the South where I work as a network guy, and everyday for me lately is lke a GOP rally, because one office will be blaring Fox News, the next will have Rush on the AM radio, the next will be listening to Neal Boortz, and maybe one in ten will have CNN or MSBNC on. Let there be no doubt: our very slightest of leans to the left nationally have RIALED THESE GIES THE FUK UP.

When Brown inevitably wins this evening (I say inevitaby, in the hopes that the longstanding Curse of the Mistaken Certainty of Jason will come into effect), that is going to be my cue to take break from this shit for awhile. Not forever, but just long enough to come back to it fresh. Besides, all the people I work with who know I’m a lefty (surprisingly few) will be rubbing my face in this anyway, and I’m just going to keep my head low and wait for some good news.

Isn’t Suderman the Future Mr Meghan McArdle?

On an unrelated note, I’d like to send a big thank you through to tubes to Russ Feingold, for confirming my meh opinion of him.

Sen. Russ Feingold told a local TV station today that the result of the Massachusetts race will define the agenda for the rest of the year. If Coakley loses, says Feingold, “it’s a serious problem and it’s probably back to the drawing board on health care, which is unfortunate, because everybody agrees we have to do something about health care and so it would be unfortunate to lose this whole effort.”

That Russ, so boldly going his own way by joining Olly Snowe, Mitch McConnell and the rest of the Back To The Drawing Board Caucus.

I’m not annoyed by everything about it, maybe, but the Jane Hamsher commentary part is just not much fun for me. She’s just such a walking stereotype of the Hollywood liberal (And I say this even as a total fan of Alec Baldwin). She may be a angelic human on a personal level, and if she is that’s great, but I know that I’m instantly turned off when she’s on the news. I also read the post she made about her dog dying (this is pretty terrible of me, I admit) and it literally made me cackle with misplaced delight. Dogs are not Buddhists, Jane.
