Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

White supremacy is terrorism.

The real work of an opposition party is to oppose.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

Rupert, come get your orange boy, you petrified old dinosaur turd.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

T R E 4 5 O N

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

the 10% who apparently lack object permanence

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

These are not very smart people, and things got out of hand.

Bad people in a position to do bad things will do bad things because they are bad people. End of story.

Dear Washington Post, you are the darkness now.

It is not hopeless, and we are not helpless.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

This country desperately needs a functioning fourth estate.

Anne Laurie is a fucking hero in so many ways. ~ Betty Cracker

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

24 Oz. of Stone’s Ruination IPA better be enough to get me through this. David Gregory’s blathering is not making me too optimistic about my prospects, though.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Declaring “I don’t quit,’” an embattled President Barack Obama vowed in his first State of the Union address Wednesday night to make job growth his topmost priority for the year and urged a divided Congress to come together around new stimulus spending and short-term economic relief. He said he would still pursue ambitious longer-term changes to health care, energy, education and beyond.
“Change has not come fast enough,” Obama said before a politician-packed House chamber and a TV audience of millions. “I do not accept second-place for the United States of America. As hard as it may be, as uncomfortable and contentious as the debates may be, it’s time to get serious about fixing the problems that are hampering our growth.”

I almost threw up a little when CNN described their panel of ordinary citizens as scientifically selected as an equal amount of Democrats, Republicans and Independents – as if that’s what America is made out of.

There’s probably nothing more damaging to American political discourse than this pernicious myth of the center/balance/independents as “what Americans want”. Argh.

I have a problem with 5 SCOTUS members who said that a corporation has 100,000,000 times the right to free speech than I do

Missed the part in the Constitution that says freedom of speech is limited to those with no money.

Sorry libs, but the application of the principles of the Constitution does not waver to suit your petty politicial gripes.

I would’ve lost my shit of Obama had stopped and been like, “Alito…something to add here my man?”

I would have gone for more of a Bartlett approach: “Alito, you may think that corporations have unlimited speech with their money, but here, tonight, you don’t. Shut it.”

@Sanka: Where in the constitution, pray tell, does it say that corporations are people? And moreover, we restrict the rights of people all the time. And we treat corporations differently than people in all sorts of situations.

This is exactly the kind of “judicial activism” conservatives are always railing against. Believe me, I understand that sometimes the law means things aren’t the way I want them to be, or that gun control laws might be unconstitutional if taken too far, etc.

But this idea that corporations are exactly like people when it comes to giving them rights, but entirely unlike people when it comes to punishing, taxing or otherwise controlling them is FUCKING RIDICULOUS. And it will destroy our country if it’s not stopped.

You don’t fight in a speech. Fighting is “if you Congressmen don’t push through a Consumer Protection Agency I won’t campaign for you”. Fighting is “Appointee X is doing a terrible job, so he’s out”.
