Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

Come on, man.

“But what about the lurkers?”

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Presidents are not kings, and Plaintiff is not President.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

If you are still in the GOP, you are an extremist.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

No one could have predicted…

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

Battle won, war still ongoing.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Hulu is going to livestream tonight’s SOTU address and the Republican response. I’m going to try watching it there, because I’ve had trouble with drop-outs and freeze-ups on the “serious” online channels (CNN/MSNBC) during previous Presidential speeches.

And for a little schadenfreude, EventheWingnuttiest Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-‘Prosperity’) has begun a walkback on attending the National Teabaggers Convention. Probably just miffed that Palin is gettin’ paid and nobody offered Michele an ‘honorarium’, but still.

Everyone take good notes, I will be skipping out on the SOTU tonight, instead drinking Kalamazoo Stout, making Mediterranean turkey burgers, and playing Mass Effect 2. I am checking out for the next couple weeks. Enjoy

And always remember: CSPAN always has less garbage than the other channels

Just to be clear on the teabagger convention… People aren’t backing out because it’s too wingnutty. People are backing out because it isn’t wingnutty enough! So it’s not surprising that Michele Bachmann is having second thoughts.

If Palin doesn’t do the honorable thing and quit, she risks having a teabag backlash on her hands. Of course, she’s good at quitting, so that should be easy for her.

She wanted to get some prosperity from the event. I mean, when you get past all their bluster, these right wingers are nothing but selfish a-holes.

    I’m with Ezra Klein:

My big hope is that Barack Obama opens tonight’s State of the Union by saying, “You want the State of the Union? You can’t handle the State of the Union!”

Anne, if you don’t own a TV, you’re my new idol. I am seriously starting to wonder why I shell out $60 a month to hardly ever watch TV.

Oh, and those 200+ channels? I would guess about 70 of them are 24 hour advertisement channels.

@Mark S.: TV, but no cable, so we get the original three network channels, plus sometimes WGBH — no Fox, no MSNBC, no CSPAN. Netflix subscription plus Hulu, on the other hand, have become household necessities.

    @Mark S.:
I don’t own a tv either. The cable sub. was ridiculous. I don’t get to see KO, Maddow, TDS, or Colbert live, and some sporting events are blocked. But overall, the internet meets my video viewing needs.

For instance, I read a story today about political races in IL, and how viewers were being bombarded with political tv ads. I haven’t seen a one of them, so I was unaware of this phenomenon. I don’t consider that a bug.

People are backing out because it isn’t wingnutty enough! So it’s not surprising that

They’re backing out because the damn attendance fee is over 500 bucks. Even teabagger’s aren’t that crazy.

Those that are exploiting these poor schlubs should remember the story of Killing the Golden Goose.

    Your Post,

You have too say Tea Baggers. You are quite the idiot or by definition any word that is defined as such. You have already wet your pants and have yet heard a word.

I have not yet attended any Tea Party functions. I would venture a guess and say that you have not either. It still is based on fools like you that place me over us.
