“Who’re you?”
“I’m Ben Nelson, your King!”
“I didn’t vote for you!”
“You don’t vote for a King!”
“Well how’d you get to be King then?”
“By being a principled, deficit hawk centrist.”
*Ben Nelson adds more inexplicable abortion language and money for Nebraska into health care bill*
“Help! Help! I’m bein’ repressed!”

I’m at work and can’t see Obama talking to the Senate Dems. Anyone watching can give us a sense of it?
Brian J
I really should get back to work, but I have to ask, how is Sean Hannity giving the keynote speech at the NRCC dinner not a big deal? I mean, he’s clearly a conservative, but if Olbermann did that for the Democrats, the Republicans would be shitting themselves in anger. Is it because nobody takes Hannity seriously?
I’ve skeptical of the idea that some of what these guys do constitutes a campaign contribution, but man, I’m starting to wonder about this.

Breaking News: Obama Makes Emotional Appeal To Senate Dems To ‘Finish The Job On Health Care’
GambitRF
@Brian J: It’s because Hannity is a Real American (TM) and Olbermann is a shrill leftist radical with weird glasses.

@Martin:
Reid picked a lot of Senators who are up for tough re-election bids to ask questions – Blanche Lincoln, Kristin Gillibrand (sp?), Arlen Specter, etc. Some Dem concern trolls like Lincoln were insufferable, imho. I just wanted to smack her through the TV screen.
I thought the Pres did a good job of saying things like, “remember why you’re here – you need to fight for your constituents.” This was in regard to health care, so I think he was saying for them to get it done. At least that’s what I heard. /Obot
I liked him reiterating that he’s focusing on making sure they pay for everything that happens on their watch and that’s why he insisted on PayGo. He also told them to go remind their constituents of the fact that Dems passed it and Republicans voted against it. Reminded them the last time we didn’t have a deficit was under a Dem Pres (Clinton). I foresee new talking point: Democrats are the party of fiscal responsibility. Who knows – could work if they hammer it home enough.
Obama was just light years ahead of anyone else in the room. He’s thinking about solving long term, difficult problems. Everyone else is thinking about the next election. He explains things like green energy in such rational ways. Of course it makes sense to incentivize green energy development. China, etc. aren’t waiting for us to decide what to do, etc.
It was good, but no exciting fireworks like with the Republicans.

Good luck to him. This Congress is about as useful as tits on a boar, but if they don’t get this done, the next Congress will likely be even worse.

offtopic: Shouldn’t Firedoglake and maybe Americablog be added to the blogroll under Blogs We Monitor And Mock As Needed?
I was reading AmericaBlog this morning and their idea that Dems will succeed this year by pointing out what recalcitrant meanies the Republicans are made me laugh out loud. You win elections by getting shit done, which AmericaBlog is opposed to because they don’t like the moderate bills which would pass for healthcare and jobs creation. I actually don’t like them that much either except to recognize that doing stuff is better politically than bitching about why you can’t do stuff, and also that both potential bills are better than doing nothing at all.

@Violet: Considering it sounds like he’s being gently critical of his own party, and anyone not in the base would expect a big circle-jerk here, I think it might get more traction than you might realize. The big question is whether outlets like MSNBC give it the same treatment as the last one, or whether they decide their punditry is more important than what our elected officials are actually saying.

@Martin:
I heard MSNBC cut away in the middle of it – maybe right after the opening remarks. Don’t know for sure, but saw that on a blog.
I seriously doubt they’ll devote their entire evening to parsing the Q&A like they did last Friday. That was ridiculously over the top.

@Violet:
I find it puzzeling that there isn’t one Dem in the whole state of Arkansas to primary her. It’s not like she’s got strong poll numbers or anything.

just called Cardin and Mikulski to express support for passing HCR

I thought the video was going to be the Spamalot version.

@Violet: I agree it was with the commentary added. I’d just much rather they run it in full, without the commentary. Honestly, it’s far, far more newsworthy than anything any of the networks have to say for 90 minutes.
Comrade Kevin
I got this from Anna Eshoo today:
Church Lady
@Violet: MSNBC cut away right after Obama mentioned CNN and Fox when talking about turning off cable news, with no mention of them. I guess the folks at MSNBC weren’t feelin’ the love.

Called Dianne DeGette, Mark Udall, and Michael Bennett. General support for HCR passage. DeGette is non-commital, but appears to be working for a “way forward”, and her office said that they’ve been getting more positive calls lately. Udall does not have a stance on reconcilliation, but apparently has been getting positive feedback from constituents on HCR passage. Bennett was the most promising – supports the reconcilliation approach and wants to get HCR done.
Every call counts people!

Not quite dead.
You know what would help push this over the hump? Making another couple phone calls. Call your Rep and your Senators. Tell them to finish health care reform.
licensed to kill time
@Violet: MSNBC cut away briefly a couple of times but came back. They showed almost the whole thing.
Fox News cut away about 20min in and never came back, except to occasionally do a split screen w/Obama on one side with no audio and a talking head on the other side.
