Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

The words do not have to be perfect.

Take your GOP plan out of the witness protection program.

Let there be snark.

The revolution will be supervised.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

American History and Black History Cannot Be Separated

You can’t love your country only when you win.

White supremacy is terrorism.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

Everybody saw this coming.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

I really should read my own blog.

Since we had site issues this week and the ensuing grumping was far less acrimonious than usual, a treat:

I drank your milkshake, bitches

We decided to go with the retro blanket for this photoshoot.

Well I just got back from a visit to the vet with my little old cat Josie. We were happy that she’d gained a couple of ounces (up to 7.1 from 6.9 six months ago). Unfortunately, I found out on the way home that she’d gained those two ounces by snarfing down all of the big cat’s food an hour before the appointment, which she then proceeded to hurl inside the cat carrier on the way home. My car smells like cat barf.

And The Grateful Dead still sucks.

Yep. All over the carrier. And cat pee has that lovely pungency that meant I had to wash it with vinegar and then set it out on the balcony for a week or so to get the smell out of the plastic.

It distills all of the dysfunction and the sickness at the core of the body politic, and since we’re all in this together, it’s either going to kill us all, or we’re at the fever stage waiting for it to break before we get better. I have no idea which it is, but either way this is where I’ll come to find out.

So, I took the dog to the vet today. He has an ear infection. Vet cleans his ears. Which he apreciated not at all. After I put him back on the floor, I don’t know if he was so traumatized he couldn’t hold it or he wanted to let that vet lady know what he thought of her ear cleaning, he crapped all over the exam room.

I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

@WaterGirl: He’s doing really well! He went in today for his weekly exam and the bladder stones appear to be gone. I don’t know what’s in the study’s food, but it seems to have done the trick. As far as the U is concerned, he’s graduated from the study, but they’d like him to stay on the food for another 3 weeks, and asked me to consider putting him in a preventative study that lasts for 2 years. I’m seriously considering it.

Yes, I just discovered that Kliban died in 1990. I guess it’s been close to 35 years since I thought about those cat cartoons of his.

I just located the actual Kliban site after I stumbled onto the one I linked to above, if anyone is interested:

    http://www.eatmousies.com/

It has a video with a cartoon cat playing guitar and singing, but I can’t take a listen until after we close tonight here at work.

Too late for feedback to Site Maintenance post. Only problem this week was this a.m.
    XP SP2 and IE 8.
Identical dial up connection speed last three days, but BJ loading noticeably faster now; DKos same apparent speed.

And another BJ link on the GOS front page, so I will blame Markos M. (even if it was BarbinMD) the next time the lights go out.

Edit: Appreciate the blog and commenters even when not all the moving parts work together.

@debit: I am so glad to hear it! I have been thinking about him and wondering how he is doing. It’s amazing that he is so much better in such a short time. Yay! Not that you asked, but I would encourage you to participate in the longer study.

@WaterGirl: I’m really surprised as well, as it’s only been about a little over a week since he started the special diet. The vet feels that there may still be small stones the ultrasound can’t pick up as there’s still a bit of blood in his urine (hence keeping him on the diet for another few weeks) but the difference in him is amazing.

I’ll most likely enroll him in the new study. His bladder is a bit contracted and hard (mineralized? I’m not sure how Dr. Lulich put it) so I’d like to have him monitored by an expert in the field.

I’ll repeat here my love for the University of Minnesota’s Vet clinic; they really do wonderful work.

Thanks for giving my big lunk of a cat your kind thoughts. :)

I had kind of a bad experience (a slightly botched procedure) with the vet clinic at the U of M but that was many many years ago. When I went to pick up the cat, the student vet that retrieved her for me told me how great it was that we let them practice on our pets. I said ‘yeah…’

edit: Josie is standing in my lap while I type this. She doesn’t sit or lie, she just stands there. Goofy cat.

Cole, I love love love you for this trifecta of Tunchie pics (and the laugh-out-loud alt texts). He doesn’t look angry or grumpy to me. He just looks like his sweet, lovable, handsome self. What a fine fine cat he is! But then again, I’m a Tunch-bot.

@Yutsano: I was looking for you throughout the whole thread, and you post as I am composing my fangrrl letter to his Tunchiness. Tunch is BETTER than snow! Well, equally good, anyway. And if I can’t have snow, it’s really nice of Cole to give me Tunch.

@General Winfield Stuck: Awwwww, Charlie is such a doll-baby!

Open Threads with animals makes me very happy.

Dammit all to hell, I tried posting a “yay Tunch!” message earlier, but it didn’t show up. Allow me to be the 88-bazillionth person to formally say, FYWP. With a hack saw. To next Wednesday.

But I love the pics! Every time I see Tunch I just want to give him a big hug. Big soft mushy kitty!

I’ll second this, and say that gbear is the exception among BJers. The oncology department over there was fabulous. There weren’t any complications, and Eddie hasn’t shown any sign of more cancer fourteen months later.

How do we know that these are current pics? Eh? Eh?!

Teh kitteh looks very Tunchy tonight. Jabba the Hutt, I mean Sammy our black cat, is sitting next to me busily (and noisily) cleaning his mass of folds and bulges while waiting for me to give him his meager daily portion of food. His ass is so big that you could use him to feed China for a week.

But we luv him just the way he is. Same with our other two rescues, they are cool cats! :)

Anyone here ever play the game Myst? Cyan Worlds, the creator of Myst, has opened up their online version of the game, Myst Online: Uru Live, for free to anyone who wants to join (though they are accepting donations). @gbear: I am really sorry you and your kitty had a bad experience there. That student should have been reported to her instructor, as they are not there to experiment, but to learn, and each case is supposed to be approved/presided over by an actual instructor/qualified vet. My every experience there has been very satisfactory and utterly professional.

@J. Michael Neal: I am so glad for Eddie. They did great work with our previous dog, and gave her two more years than she would have had otherwise. (Man, it’s been over ten years. You’d think I’d stop tearing up at the thought of her.)
