Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

“Perhaps I should have considered other options.” (head-desk)

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

The willow is too close to the house.

The fundamental promise of conservatism all over the world is a return to an idealized past that never existed.

“But what about the lurkers?”

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

I really should read my own blog.

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

This blog will pay for itself.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Republicans in disarray!

Not all heroes wear capes.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

“I was told there would be no fact checking.”

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

OK, need help here…what is ETA supposed to stand for? The only context I’ve seen it in means “estimated time of arrival,” and I’m pretty sure that’s not what the common meaning is here.

    Ahem.

I’m struggling with writer’s block, for a variety of reasons only some of them really understood by me, but I did manage to post something on my own blog today, essentially ripping off a column that I ran once in the Dallas Morning News, about body image and women and my own little girl.

I would be so happy if you come visit, and perhaps, even comment! (A writer’s-blocked girl can dream, can’t she?)

    @robertdsc:

That’s definitely a bad day, dude. Sorry you’re going through that. Sending positive vibes your way.

I had a pretty good day the last couple of days, despite some bad luck along the way. The mechanic that put in my new radiator let me take my car without paying yesterday. Told him I didn’t have my checkbook and couldn’t take out enough cash from the atm and he told me to come back today. When I did, with cash in hand, he lopped $25 off the bill and also showed me some hoses and clamps he replaced but didn’t charge me for. In addition, he didn’t talk to me like I am an idiot and know nothing about cars because I’m a woman. He is now my new go-to guy and I’m recommending to everyone in sight. In addition, the guidance counselor at the high school I was supposed to present at tonight called and we decided to postpone until noon on Saturday. Which is great.

All in all, it’s been a good day except for DougJ feeling like he has to punch a hippie or two with his kickoff comment here on this thread. Damn DougJ. Always punching hippies and using anonymous sources to hide behind.

An observation I saw on TPM and am now buying into:

Bayh is not running for President in 2012. Bayh is running for Governor of Indiana in 2012.

    Reasons this makes sense:

    – Indiana term limit law says only that you cannot be Governor for more than 8 years out of any 12 year period.

    – As of 2010, Bayh is no longer bound by Indiana’s term limit law.

    – As of 2012, Mitch Daniels will be bound from running again under Indiana’s term limit law.

    – Bayh made some comments about how he was “more of an executive person”.

    – Bayh obviously wouldn’t try to primary a sitting president, as he is (1) not a complete idiot and (2) seemingly on better terms with Barack Obama than, say, Harry Reid.

I have it on good authority that when he decided to vote for cloture on the Health Care Reform bill Senator Nelson’s office was swamped with non-stop horrible abusive calls from Tea Baggers across the nation. The staff were used to picking up the phone and having nutjobs scream “you goddamned sluts!!!!” as loudly as possible into the receiver. It was non-stop, and the staff felt like they had been through a war.

So, what I’m saying is that those liberal bloggers must be really bad to actually get Bayh to quit.

Good luck, man. I hope your state expedites your benefits as well as NYState did for me. I have spent many months of the last decade living off of unemployment. Ironically, my employment has been the most stable the last few years.

    @robertdsc:

I was on unemployment the entire year of 2009. It took the entire year to sort out the work thing, but I found an opportunity working as a contract person (no benefits but the husband has medical insurance) for 4 different clients in 4 different locations with more freedom and more potential than anything I have done in years. I’m way more of my own boss. Looking back where I was a year ago now, I kept saying to myself that it would all work out, hardly able to believe it, but it did. It will for you too.

My only confusion is why people engage that troll at all?

The time I did was because I was freaking exasperated. People were having a good debate about health care, and here’s this troll jumping up and down and whining “But Dengre’s post pissed me off! Everyone pay attention to me! I require validation!” And he WOULD NOT SHUT UP.

Also, every time I see his handle, I think of the BTK serial killer.

My dentist called on Friday to let me know that the impressions for my two new crowns didn’t turn out, so they would have to re-do them. I got to go in yesterday on my day off and have them re-done.

Did I mention that it turns out that I’m allergic to either the cement they use on the temporary crown or the temporary itself so my gums are busy running away from it and exposing my roots in a very painful fashion? If I seem a little extra cranky and unwilling to suffer fools gladly right now, that would be one of the reasons why.

@mcc Rock salt the first thing I thought of. Also, the mailing of fake dog poo.

I suppose it’s better that I’m encouraged to drop off a bag of potatoes rather than mail it in, but then again, I think it would do the world a lot better if I were encouraged to drop off some canned goods at a local food pantry instead.

    True, that.

I recently picked up ‘Crystal Bearers’ for the Wii, and it’s a real blast. Pretty short story for a normal Final Fantasy game, but it isn’t exactly normal. It’s action/adventure rather than RPG.

I’m really worried about Democrats’ willingness to label people concern trolls. If the Democrats keep labeling all of their critics concern trolls and failing to address the issues that are important to them they soon wont have any supporters at all. Democrats need to look more carefully at their critics opinions and follow their advice, otherwise they are never going to keep the majority after November this year.
