Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

If you are still in the gop, you are either an extremist yourself, or in bed with those who are.

You are so fucked. Still, I wish you the best of luck.

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” is supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

Second rate reporter says what?

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

… gradually, and then suddenly.

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you don’t.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

Republicans would impeach Biden if he bit into a whole Kit Kat rather than breaking the sections apart.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

I was confident that someone would point it out and thought why not me.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

“Look, it’s not against the rules anywhere, but a black woman with power was dating and there has to be something wrong with that.”

Many life forms that would benefit from greater intelligence, sadly, do not have it.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

The lights are all blinking red.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Thoughts about long meetings…

There are many reasons to be curious about what happens at the HCR summit Thursday at Blair House. Speculation about who wins, who loses and ways to score the event like a sports event flood the zone. Some of this speculation might be correct–most will be wrong.

What is new here is the dynamic of the long meeting. This kind of thing is almost never televised and when it is, it is almost never interesting. I expect the meeting on Thursday will be a surprise.

If not for you

I’m not the biggest Bob Dylan fan and this isn’t his best song, but when they played it at Starbucks this morning, it cut right through the usual Norah Jones and Sting. Anyway, it seemed appropriate on a blog that runs on fumes and comments (not in that order).

Update. There was a tv show in the early 1990s (I remember seeing it in 1991 or 1992) that had this as its theme song, done by someone who sounded like a folkier version of Suzanne Vega. What was it? I can’t remember.

For Those of You Claiming Ed Did Not Become a Hack

Read this link.

The old Ed Morrisey would have been able to tell the difference between the then proposed nuclear option and reconciliation. And, we can assume, should the Republicans ever come back into power in the Senate, he will suddenly rediscover the distinction.

The nuclear option is an explosion of existing Senate rules and had never been done. Reconciliation is a Senate procedure, and used quite commonly, most recently by Republicans.

How Long Before the Sex Tape Surfaces?

More masturbatory fodder for the right-wing:

Last year, Miss California Carrie Prejean endeared herself to the right wing when she answered a question about same-sex marriage by saying that she believes marriage “should be between a man and a woman.” Now, Miss Beverly Hills 2010 Lauren Ashley, who will compete in the Miss California pageant in November, has gone further. Ashley told Fox News that not only is she against same-sex marriage, but that she thinks it is divine law that gays should be put to death because “the Bible is pretty black and white“

I don’t know how she competes in beauty pageants while wearing a burkha, though. I mean, with attitudes like that, she does wear a burkha, right?
