Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I have other things to bitch about but those will have to wait.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

Innocent people do not delay justice.

If you are still in the gop, you are either an extremist yourself, or in bed with those who are.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

I really should read my own blog.

Their boy Ron is an empty plastic cup that will never know pudding.

75% of people clapping liked the show!

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

I desperately hope that, yet again, i am wrong.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

We can’t confuse what’s necessary to win elections with the policies that we want to implement when we do.

Bad people in a position to do bad things will do bad things because they are bad people. End of story.

Boeing: repeatedly making the case for high speed rail.

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

Republicans: “Abortion is murder but you can take a bus to get one.” Easy peasy.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

You come for women, you’re gonna get your ass kicked.

I made a movie yesterday with Obama and Bush doing the dialogue from the SEC employee porn investigation.

I also have one where Bush accuses Obama of touching his drumset.

Okay – I had to look up troglodyte – but the ‘bots are really cute. Can I have one for a pet? What do they eat? Can they exercise themselves?

I am surprised that people have never heard the word before. Factoid – Common chimpanzee’s scientific name is “Pan troglodyte”.

    You couldn’t make this up:

Sources tell CBS13 a state senator from Southern California was arrested for allegedly driving drunk after leaving Faces, a gay nightclub in midtown Sacramento, early Wednesday morning.
    __
The California Highway Patrol pulled over Senator Roy Ashburn at 2:00 a.m. Wednesday after an officer noticed a black Chevy Tahoe swerving at 13th and L Streets.
    __
Ashburn, a father of four, is a Republican Senator representing parts of Kern, Tulare and San Bernardino Counties with a history of opposing gay rights

I’m pretty sure troglodyte was a very common insult back when I was too young to insult people with words like that. “what am i, a dictionary?” — too funny. Jack must have had a moment of despair when he realized Scanlon was one of the troglodytes that he was talking about. What sort of moron wouldn’t google a word they didn’t understand if it was used in an email?

@burnspbesq: Was the Republican nominee a shoo-in? Maybe a load of Republicans voted in the Dem primary instead, in order to get her elected. Or maybe the Dem voters in Texas are as dumb as they are here in Illinois on occasion. Either way, if there’s a viable, actual Dem candidate in that district, that poor slob is stuck with the inconvenience of having to run as an independent.

    March 4, 2010 at 3:04 pm

    @burnspbesq:

Wow, that woman is completely nuts. I was curious what LaRouche’s grand plan was, since Rogers didn’t bother to explain any of her solutions on her website. A bit o’ Googling brought me to this:

In contrast to the “save auto jobs” approach now being taken by those who sabotaged LaRouche’s 2005 initiative, LaRouche’s approach demands the establishment of a new Federal corporation which will salvage the remaining labor and plant capacity, to turn out the machine-tool products required to rebuild the nation’s infrastructure. The auto industry cannot and should not be saved, LaRouche has emphasized. Three and a half years later, Congress must recognize its errors and adopt the mission the ERA lays out.

LaRouche’s Economic Recovery Act (see below), backed in a mobilization by local union leaders and activists, was blocked by the hold on the Democratic Party leadership by fascist banker Felix Rohatyn, and British financier agents George Soros and Al Gore. Blocked with the help of some of the same auto executives now asking for $50 billion in Federal “retooling” credits to save their companies.

So she wants to impeach Obama and create a giant federal corporation that takes over every car plant in the US? Jesus, where did they drag her out from?

I have just introduced my AP Government students to the concept of special interest groups and lobbying. We are watching Billy Moyer’s piece from 06, ‘Capitol Crimes,’ that covered these frauds.
In a classroom of conservative Christian Democrats who vote Republican (it’s a rural Florida county), the response has been…refreshing.

    @Ash Can:

In all honestly she may have won based solely on her name. Dem voters in TX-22 tend to come from Galveston or Missouri City, which are both heavily African American. It’s the opposite reason Victor Cirillo, the incumbent Railroad Commissioner, just happened to get only 40% of the vote in his GOP primary vs a guy with the decidedly non-‘Messican name of David Porter. He was the only statewide Republican incumbent to lose.

Sadly your name can carry you or hurt you in these things.

Carrillo had an interesting letter to the editor in the Austin paper today. This guy had the backing of the GOP establishment, the Christian Coalition, and basically anyone else that matters to a GOP voter. He outspent his opponent, “an unknown, no-campaign, no-qualification CPA from Midland residing in Giddings [who] filed on the last day that he could file while I was waiting in Abilene to bury my dad. He has never held any elected office, has no geoscience, industry, or legal experience other than doing tax returns for oil and gas companies,” by hundreds of thousands of dollars.

    Carrillo lost 61%-39%. His reasoning?

Given the choice between “Porter” and “Carrillo” — unfortunately, the Hispanic-surname was a serious setback from which I could never recover although I did all in my power to overcome this built-in bias. I saw it last time but was able to win because the “non-Carrillo” vote was spread among three Anglo GOP primary opponents instead of just one. Also, the political dynamics have changed some since 2004.

I’m not so sure that he is going to quit. He is hinting he’s in it for the long haul:

Many of you have begun to call and/or write to express your concern over the whole situation. You are correct to be concerned over the fact that the GOP (our party) still has these tendencies to not be able to elect or retain highly qualified candidates who WANT to continue serving the public as I do. It is indeed a shame. Nevertheless, I refuse to walk away in shame because I know that my team and I did just about all we could have done to ensure that the primary electorate knew of my qualifications, expertise, and experience. The rest was beyond my control. I also urge party leaders to not alienate the Hispanic/Latino voter in Texas, as we now comprise about 39% of the population and we remain the fastest-growing minority group in the nation.

This man not only manages to get interviews with the people no one else seems to get but he really pins them down on the issues and their stances like no other intrepid reporter out there. For instance, today he went out and got an exclusive with the guy that everyone is dying to interview and it’s scintillating. Please read what this visionary in American politics has to say!
