Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

The willow is too close to the house.

The GOP couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Americans barely caring about Afghanistan is so last month.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

“More of this”, i said to the dog.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Prediction: the GOP will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

“But what about the lurkers?”

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

If you want Congress to pass the damn bill, then make it happen. Pick up the phone and tell your Representative and Senators to get it done.

Switchboard: (202) 224-3121.

Guide for first-timers here.

And don’t stop with your representatives and senators. Call nationwide. It’s especially important to pressure the Blue Dogs ( http://www.house.gov/melancon/BlueDogs/Member Page.html ). Also, if you want a public option, please check http://whipcongress.com/ for lists of those who support a PO via reconciliation (now up to 35 Senators and 120 Representatives) and those who don’t.

@Tonal Crow: Rats. That last part should read “and those who haven’t yet indicated support”.

@slag: It doesn’t hurt for them to keep hearing thanks for their support. You don’t want the teabaggers to drown us out.

I called my Rep, Lincoln Davis, and left a polite message. However, I ALSO called Bart Gordon yesterday afternoon, and today he is being discussed as a possible switch from No to Yes. HaHA! It was all my doing!

    UGHHHH.

My husband called Mitchell (AZ) this week (I’m sure he’s ridiculously sick of hearing from the two of us at this point!) and the bastard is STILL noncommittal.

BTW, we’re talking about the Mitchell who took J. D. Hayworth’s seat.

    ***le sigh***

Called yesterday afternoon: Barney Frank, John Kerry, Scott “Lot’s daughters got nuthin’ on mine” Brown, bonus call to Stupak to tell him where to get off.

Will rinse, repeat on Monday (can’t quite bring myself to do this daily).

You might tell them you want civilian trials when you call the Senate because they are freezing funds for those & closing Gitmo.

Why not? Other people’s money is always easy to spend.

    @Tonal Crow:

Yes, I called my rep’s office yesterday and expressed support for reconciliation etc. and was told she wanted HCR to pass “any way it could.” Told the staffer I just wanted them to know there was a LOT of support out there and not to be intimidated by the GOP robocall crowd. When I pointed out they were never gonna vote for a Dem anyway, the staffer chuckled and said, “Yeah, that’s what I thought too.”

The staffer also said just hearing from supporters meant a lot. So yes, call.

For those on a budget, remember that you can also call your Senators’ and Representative’s local offices–you don’t have to call their Washington offices.

Just check their websites for the numbers of their local offices.
