Tim, I just hung up from Rep. Guitirrez’ office then clicked on here. They were very polite and sympathetic. I pointed out all the former immigrants who are now citizens who are hurting for lack of health care.

Just called him. I can’t believe he would vote against healthcare the senate bill over immigration. I’m as sensitive as the next guy for the need of immigration reform, but hijacking the healthcare bill would be political suicide.
As a citizen I getting extremely pissed by the attempts of different democrats to hijack this bill.
I’m not sure who started this rumor, but if you saw the interview he gave last night in its totality, it was quite obvious he just needs a kiss on the lips with a little tongue from Obama about immigration reform, and he is a yes.
I’d focus on Capuano.

I think TPM is hyping up a lot of nonsense. Some liberal congressmen are hedging to get assurances from Obama on other stuff, and TPM reports it as though they’re vowing to vote no.
I think the chances of either Capuano or Gutierrez voting against health care are close to nil.

I just called Mike Capuano (as a constituent, which I am) to THANK him for threatening to vote against the Senate bill in the House. Further, I told his staffer that I voted for Capuano (which I did) and that if he voted against this obscenity I would vote for him again in the next election. However, I am also fully prepared to vote for a primary opponent if he votes for a giveaway to private monopolies without any check in the marketplace or price regulation.
KILL THIS BILL.

Rep. Guitierrez wants to hear from you.
Sorry if this has been covered before – I haven’t been around much lately, if there has been discussion of this issue I’d be glad to see a link – but he probably doesn’t, unless you live in his district. Their staff probably won’t actually hang up on you, but they aren’t interested in what you have to say unless your phone call has the same area code as their district. If you want to influence Congressmen who aren’t your own, then giving money or writing letters to the editor of his local paper seem like they would be more effective.
Just comes to mind because a friend of mine is a staffer of a centrist Democrat (she says that he hasn’t officially supported the health care reform bill yet but she’s pretty confident that he will) and she’s been getting hundreds of calls over the past week from right-wing nut jobs trying to turn him to their side, and it’s just been an annoyance.
Tim knows that, that’s why he called it Paging the Illinois 4th.

Jane, you ignorant slut. Keep keeping on, Hamsher. Shouldn’t you be in the middle of a bubble bath with Grover Norquist?

Tim, I think TPM is playing a cynical game. They are going for the hype and over estimating the level of opostion to this bill from Dems.
I am not sure what happened to TPM but they are beginning to lose me. Just check how many stories they have on the Massa thing.

they just ran that he confirmed his opposition to them. If people are wavering even a little, I’m glad TPM is publicizing it – it’s inspiration to actually call. I live in Guitierrez’s district and have called a couple times, but generally don’t feel it’s worth it. Just called one number and will call the other soon.
(I do think being a Chicago district, I can’t imagine him actually voting against Obama.)
Current take is two stories depending on whether you are constituent or media. I’d say keep calling and make your voice heard to support the bill.
Speaking of, it’s time to call Stark’s office again just to say thank you for his continued support of health care reform.

TPM has always loved the political scandals. If you go back far enough, you’ll see he was all over Gary Condit stuff back in the early days of the blog. That kind of thing is not to everyone’s taste, of course, but that’s hardly a change in the way Marshall runs his blog.
This stupid hyping of supposed liberal “no” votes seems a lot more problematic to me. Because, basically, I don’t believe a word these guys are saying. There’s just no way Capuano or Gutierrez is going to vote to kill health care reform. Gutierrez is obviously positioning to get Obama’s backing on immigration reform stuff, but there’s no way he’ll vote against the bill. I have absolutely no idea what Capuano thinks he’s doing, but I think the chances that he’ll vote against the bill are also pretty remote.
If Pelosi gets the votes she needs from Pro-Lifers/Blue Dogs to insure the passage, there’s just no way these guys are going to kill health care reform over immigration (Gutierrez) or being a fucking pussy for no reason (Capuano). If Pelosi doesn’t get the votes she needs from the moderates, then there won’t be a vote at all.

I’m looking at you Kucinich and now Guitierrez.

Guitierrez is a yes. Check my twitter feed.
